I see where someone edited a track to change “vs.” to “Vs.” Seems like the capitalization-guesser should have a special case to leave “vs.” alone, no?
      • srxl
Adding a new release "Foobar (VIPs)" - it has the same tracklist as "Foobar" plus 2 extra tracks. Should this new release go in Foobar's existing release group, or a new one?
      • Comparing ISRCs on the releases, they seem to share the same recordings as well
      • crism
That smells like the same release group, srxl.
      • srxl
I'm thinking new release group, since I'd probably want the "remix of" relationship between these two, and that's a relationship between groups
      • reosarevok
Same release group - that doesn't sound like a remix, just a reissue with bonus tracks
      • Unless all the tracks *are* remixed, but then they should not share ISRCs...
      • srxl
        Ahhh, gotcha
      • They're not - same tracks as on the initial release
      • Also the label's catalog IDs for the two (MCEP223 for the original, MCEP223-V for the new one with remixes) lend to the "same release group" idea
      • I'll go with that then, cheers
      • Freso
Is there a way to search for cover art adds with a given comment? 👀
      • reosarevok
        Freso: yes!
      • Freso
        Great, thanks!
      • reosarevok
      • That should work IIRC
      • Freso copies link to remove "beta."
      • Freso
reosarevok: No, that search the edit notes, not the image comment. :\
      • reosarevok
        Ooooh

STYLE-2037: Can we please add 'Hard Dance' genre https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/STYLE-2037
      • Freso
reosarevok: Would that be an MBS ticket then?
      • reosarevok
I guess :) I don't think we currently support any edit search based on entity comments / disambiguations
      • atj
I've never heard of the genre, seems too generic IMV, but let me check the ticket
      • reosarevok
I think the idea is that it *is* a generic
      • atj
Personally I don't think that "hard" is meaningful as a generic term for genres, it's actually a more specific term. The generic part is the word after "hard", e.g. house, trance etc.
      • I don't think you'd add "deep" as a generic genre for "deep house", "deep techno" etc.
      • Beatport's genre system is terrible IMV.
      • However I do feel a bit like this https://i1.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/0... :)

I'm not sure about the second edit?
      • won't "automatic" just number them in the order added to mb?
      • s/number/order/
      • I guess the point is that there's nothing that says that series need to be ordered in release order?
      • ev
I believe automatic is clever to the extent that it orders by barcode + date
      • derwin
oh, if that's the case, ok.
      • some citation on that would help me feel more comfortable with my "yes" vote
      • ev
otherwise I'd have just left it as-is..
      • I'm not sure how to cite that, e.g. the documentation doesn't mention how it works
      • derwin
ah well, it's non-destructive and not that significant in scope (as the series is not actually ordered) so here's my yes vote
      • but I remain curious
      • ev
I believe at the very least it's orederd by the barcode, and catalogue number in absense of a difference in date, but I'm not 100% positive on that one
      • thanks for the vote <3
      • reosarevok
I honestly don't remember. bitmap: do you remember what we sort series on if there's no numbers?
      • ev
hmm,.. there is a wiki page as follows: https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/How_to_Add_a_Series
      • 'The Ordering Type Sorts the items in the series automatically by their number attributes, using a natural sort order. You have to select whether the series is ordered automatically or manually.'
      • otisolsen70 has quit
      • reosarevok
Yeah, but I don't remember if it defaults to anything if their numbers are missing :)
      • ev
oh dear.. did not mean to put an evil face in initial comment there..
      • bitmap
if there are no numbers or numbers are the same it does have some entity-specific rules
      • it'll order by relationship date first iirc, and then for releases it'll order by release date, then catalog number. not sure about barcode
      • ev
for these releases (I believe this may be the Decca catalogue system, or maybe universal), they have two catalogue numbbers, a shortt one, followed by a large one which is the barcode with an extra padding zero
      • it's distinct from the barcode to the extent that they list the short one in bold, immediately followed by the longer one
      • well, not followed by, rather, it's directly below the shorter one
      • I suppose it's probably fine to that extent,
      • I strongly suspect that the three LPs that aren't the sampler were released on the same day ,but I can't find any information either way
      • bitmap
it sounds like they should be ordered correctly in that case
      • if not you can just set the number attributes to 1,2,3 etc.
      • (most likely the short cat#, not literally 1,2,3. or just revert back to manual ordering)

hmm the WIki says I'm logged in but it keeps popping up login boxes when I try save my edits. My user name and pw don't seem to satisfy it D:
      • Oh the old add 'NOTSPAM' into both fields thing. Which it didn't tell me because that only comes up on the login page :(
      • And now I get 'Error contacting the Parsoid/RESTBase server (HTTP 415)' ?
      • Anyone else getting that? I shouldn't have done so many edits at once on this page, uh oh
