The equivalent in Picard would be:
      • $num(%tracknumber%,2)$if($and(%_musicbrainz_tracknumber%,$ne(%_musicbrainz_tracknumber%,%tracknumber%)), \(%_musicbrainz_tracknumber%\))

well thats odd, why does the track number field want to change from A1 to 1 for a vinyl in the bottom of picard. I have sorted that so now I get A1 - Artist - Tile.ext
      • outsidecontext
Goldmaster: Yesterday you changed it only in the file name, but for tags Picard by default always sets the tracknumber to the numeric number. So either use a script like $set(tracknumber,%_musicbrainz_tracknumber%) or if you just don't want the existing track number being overwritten add tracknumber to the preserved tags field
      • If it is a good idea to set the tracknumber to something different than a number depends on the file format and the software you use your files with, though

it is pretty common. my sony mp3 player (recent, NW-A series) just ignores non-numeric numbers and orders them by name instead
      • outsidecontext
ev: yes, that. also for ID3 it is technically against the specs, so you cannot really blame players doing that. For MP4 it is even impossible (unless you produce really incompatible files that probably can't be read at all), because the trkn atom is defined to be integer values
      • elomatreb[m]
only Vorbis comment files with their weakly typed string tags support this
      • ev
yea, although this player can play FLAC files, it's not even compliant with the spec e.g. it won't display lyrics for files that don't use ID3 tags
      • outsidecontext
also for ID3 Picard itself has issue reading non-compliant track no., see https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/PICARD-2347. It's some inconsistency between what it can write and can read
      • BrainzBot
        PICARD-2347: Picard can't read vinyl track numbers like A1 from MP3, ID3v2.4

just had a look at the Sony NW-A and found out it has a "rigid aluminium milled frame for improved sound quality". Apparently that extra rigidity gives "low impedance and clear, stable sound and solid bass"!
      • ev
yes, it is full of hocus pocus
      • as far as these sorts of things go it's perfectly fine. it plays tracks from SD card and the battery life is good
      • the 'high resolution audio' thing is almost certainly a scam
      • atj
ev: I thought Sony might a bit beyond that sort of thing, but I guess the device is aimed at "audiophiles"
      • ev
not sure. the much more expensive models certainly are aimed at people with a lot of money, this is more of a sony ipod classic with fancy features designed to present 'added value'
      • they sell a stupid gold one that costs £10k
      • atj
        heh
      • Cheezmo
I mean is says it supports 24bit/384kHz, so that is pretty high resolution audio.
      • atj
I'm probably going to have to get something like this at some point owing to the lack of any phones with a headphone port now.
      • ev
      • Cheezmo
Could be a Pono killer, oh wait.
      • atj
        wow, "custom-crafted passive-balanced volume potentiometer"
      • ev
this one is basically the £150 one i have with maybe a different DAC, and it's not portable. you have to sit there, alone, in front of it, with £10k headphones listening to the sounds only dogs can hear
      • atj
ah, some more rigidity fu, which "lessens external electrical or seismic interference so each circuit can achieve optimal performance"
      • so it'll still sound great during an earthquake!
      • Cheezmo
Fracking always messes up my enjoyment of music.
      • ev
Give every track the sound of vinyl with Vinyl Processor
      • LOL it's just a DSP that adds 'warmth'
      • Cheezmo
It needs to also add pops and clicks to be realistic.
      • ev
it also seems to only have 256GB of storage, so about 3 and a half albums at 24bit/384k
      • atj
it has 2 micro SD slots though
      • PopperBruda has quit
      • so you could maybe fit another 5 albums
      • ev
not sure that's a good idea. i wouldn't risk fitting more than one album per card, it might degrade the music
      • atj
I'm quite surprised Sony bother with such niche products
      • crism joined the channel
      • ev
if they made 2500 of these things, at maybe the cost of £20 of parts, and sell all 8000, that's about £20m of profit give or take
      • er, sell all 2500
      • atj
I guess. They've still got to R&D it though, the cost of that must be at least £1-2m
      • ev
it seems to just be a vanity project. and they probably just reuse the pcb from one of their other mp3 players
      • stick it in a standard pcb milled aluminium thing, find a gold knob, buttons and a bit of glass
      • atj
        does yours run Android?
      • ev
there's two types as far as i can tell. the one i have runs their own custom thing (it is linux underneath), many of them have this. then there were higher end ones which ran android, and now all of them run android, including nw-a50 onwards which is the equivalent of mine
