I have a band that publishes lyrics on bandcamp, how would I link that to their recordingss/works?
elomatreb[m]
I don't think there is a way to link that
The lyrics URL relationship that exists is for the cases where there is an external lyrics database (of which very few legitimate ones exist)
kepstin
ehmry: looks like you should just be able to link the page on bandcamp which includes the lyrics to the work, it's been added to the permitted sites list: https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-9831
ehmry: as far as the mechanics of it go - navigate to the work on musicbrainz, click edit, paste the link into the external links "add link" box, it should auto-detect as lyrics.
ehmry
yes, that works, but a bit slow
reosarevok
That's the best we have at the moment
ehmry
good enough for now

hi, is there still no solution for representing ghost tracks in a sane way? possibly one that plays nicely with picard?
should I start adding pseudo releases?
v6lur has quit
derwin
what's a "ghost track"? do you mean a "hidden track"?
CatQuest
King_DuckZ: erh. "hidden track" wors fine on mb?
it can be added to the end.
or if it's that weird "playback the cd when at the beginning" 0. trakc thing
last track is not a 16 min song, it's a 6m30 song plus silence plus 5m30 song
CatQuest
ah
yea yo ucna list the recording as title / other title
there is some haxery you cnado with picard in that if you've split that track, yo ucna still put thme both on the last one in picard
King_DuckZ
what about picard? I split the track and it doesn't know how to tag the 16th song, from what I can see
CatQuest
and then manually set the text in the spesific file
so change the last split file's position to !16! and so on
erh "16"
you can change the bit on the file itself. iirc
or jsut save one of the files once and thne the second one after that
King_DuckZ
so basically there is no way to handle this and I have to do manual hackery that will break next time I import this album in picard?
CatQuest
you can override and type manually the contence in fetched tags
aerozol
You've already hacked the CD :)
You can add the Spotify release which has the tracks split and tag to that?
CatQuest
well. you've "hcked" it by splitted the .. yes
oh yea. that woudl work
!m aerozol for noticing that
BrainzBot
You're doing good work, aerozol for noticing that!
King_DuckZ
but the catalog number and maybe release date etc will be wrong
aerozol
yup :( but so are your tracks lolol
CatQuest
well honestly you will have to change something
aerozol
jokes aside, I have this problem all the time with vinyl rips, which can be split/not split all kinds of ways
CatQuest
because you "hacked" the file apart. that is the price to pay for conveniance in ripping i suppose
aerozol
it sucks so I do feel for you
CatQuest
oh man, yea
i am loath t othat one frank zappa album for a reason
btw is archive slow for anyone else?
... omh I'm trying to dl this mashup file and it says "11 h" war
King_DuckZ
I think we had this conversation last year already... wouldn't it be possible to add a ghost track feature to mb so it gets official support instead of hackery, and give an option in picard to have it either as 1 long track, or split it? and picard could do that automatically?
aerozol
Maybe you have some ideas on how it could be done without compromising the database King_DuckZ. It's a tricky one
well I don't know about the internal db representation
discogs lists 16 tracks btw
aerozol
Might just be needed Picard side tbh
CatQuest
it's actually kidna already possible?
you jsut need to fiddle with some tags.. it wouldn't evne take that long imho
i mean i fiddle with the tags all the time becase peopel are annoying and put in weird apostrophes
aerozol
I think it's more about it being changed back if you update the tags?
CatQuest
but I mean. this does sound ripe for a plugin suggestion
hmm i guess
aerozol
omg CatQuest surely you just hacve a plugin or something for the apostrophes
CatQuest
but I mean that's what "use old tags" are for?
aerozol
hmm I've never used that function!
CatQuest
aerozol: I got help from rdswift in making a script that rmeoves tøv
King_DuckZ
yes, sometimes there is a typo, an updated image or something and it requires an update - I had one just today with a mis-spelled album title
and when I have split tracks it always trips me up because they don't fit in the album and my first thought is "oh I tagged the wrong album, I must have some deluxe edition that used to be mis-represented in the db"
aerozol
I imagine something like: right click a track in Picard, click 'split track' or something, and then it adds an extra track, which is then loaded with the album next time
however this also might be an obscene amount of work for something that might just need a manual tag change tbh :D
CatQuest
that really sounds like a plugin should do
might wanna ask plugin writers? maybe on community
King_DuckZ
when I don't split tracks, it's just annoying that music goes silent and suddenly you get music again. plus, it messes listening stats, I can't mark a song as favourite, making a playlist breaks continous playback etc
CatQuest
sure
aerozol
I hear ya! How are your script writing skills King_DuckZ ;P
CatQuest
it shoulddefinitly be possible with a plugin
King_DuckZ
I'm a programmer but I never did anything on the mb/picard front
hmm that's more the extended multiple grouping track thing
classic music has it a fair bit
uhm.. track grouping?
I forget what it's called
King_DuckZ
ok I can't figure how to search the logs but I'm sure we had this exact conversation already, with ideas and stuff thrown in
I can have a look at the tutorial, but I can't promise anything. I'm a beginner with this, and the feature sounds fairly complex to me
I've never seen track grouping, in fact that cd I linked to just doesn't list "sub-names" of each song, I think I'd have to change the db schema and the ui both on the website and on picard
rdswift
Complex? Maybe. I have no clear idea of what you want it to do, so consequently I have no idea of how that might be accomplished.
King_DuckZ
¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
I guess there should be some text boxes where people can add additional titles inside a "top-level" track, with time stamps
and the acoust id would also be different of course, depending on if you look up a solid track, or a sub-track
rdswift
In other words a bogus different release. Bogus because the number of tracks has been artifically changed.
