derwin: Hmm, that album doesn’t seem to be covered in ‘we don’t consider these to be comps’, but do you mean because the recordings haven’t been released before?
derwin
" a various artists song collection, usually based on a general theme ("Songs for Lovers"), a particular time period ("Hits of 1998"), or some other kind of grouping ("Songs From the Movies", the "Café del Mar" series, etc).
I guess maybe it *is* a compilation because it's various artists, it's just not in the "usually" clause?
aerozol
That’s so weird. Aren’t all compilations based on general themes :D
I would generally go by ‘have these recordings been released before’, but I can’t say I’ve ever lost sleep over the ‘compilation’ type on VA releases...
Oh wait, it’s in the ‘these are compilations’ pile. That makes sense to me
If the recordings have been released elsewhere + it’s to “showcase the current French club / bass scene” I think it ticks both boxes

derwin
they haven't been released elsewhere, which is the most common case of electronic compilations
aerozol
Hmm well then it might not be a ‘compilation’ just a VA release indeed. VA kind of = compilation anyway, in the way you’re thinking of it. I actually don’t know though, I would automatically assign compilation as you would
Maybe reosarevok has thoughts
derwin
I wouldn't usually assign a compilation to, like, a 4 track VA ep
but a 13 track "<name> vol 1" I would
aerozol
If I suspected the recordings were just for that comp I probably wouldn’t, just seems like a VA ‘release’. But that’s less common with non electronic (apparently)
derwin
it's super common in the world of electronic music for an artist to get a track signed to a VA compilation for a label, and then later put out different tracks on an EP
they often explicitly refer to themselves as "compilations" fwiw
" This dirtybird compilation is loaded with 11 great tunes I have been collecting for over 6 months. "
aerozol
I can’t speak to electronic releases sorry. Would be interested in hearing how others approach it
Generally speaking I think general terminology would be to just call all VA releases compilations, and MB is the outlier. Which might be good, as it gives us another tool (rather than just have the VA tab always have the same secondary type)

I think this is kind of on the edge, but given they themselves call it a compilation I guess I could see calling it that
I'd argue technically it's not - it's just a VA album :) But 🤷♂️

Is there an easy way for me to upload my own cover art from Picard?

G0d: No, just “Search in browser” will open the release page for you.

Is there a plugin that'll open the folder my album is stored in as well?
oh ignore that, open in containing folder
I was clicking the album name rather than the individual track inside
Ah yes, just spotted the 'send email' link. Cheers yvanzo
aerozol
I just send an email if it's something delicate, otherwise they will get an email if you leave a note on their edits 👍
adhawkins
Ok, I've sent him an email.
aerozol
Often good because future confused people can see what was discussed
yvanzo
Yes but this more about the whole editing history for this recording.
adhawkins
I think his edits are probably correct, the issue is that the recording is also associated with the original track on JMJs original releases.
yvanzo
For example the latest edit notes don’t specify the booklet of which release is referred to.
adhawkins
Yes.

CatQuest: The issue is, I think his edit is probably correct for the cover release. However, the same recording is used for the original release, which sounds wrong to me.
