        iconoclasthero: there must have been
      • but checking Jira doesn't indicate that there is..

        well...
      • what got me thinking is that there's an option for "broadcast" which is how some bootlegs are born.
      • so perhaps an option for Soundboard and Audience or even just SBD and AUD since the only people who would know wtf that is would be people who are into boots.
      • the other thing is that when there are 15 copies of a single show, it does help to break it down a bit. though f/dead shows if there's an etree number you should be good.
      • what's jira and should i log this there?
      • derwin
      • and yeah, I mean, I'm not an expert but the idea of a live bootleg lineage seems like something we might want to model?
      • iconoclasthero
I basically dump the .nfo file into the annotation because it is by far the most information anyone is going to have on it.
      • without doing actual research...
      • usually they include the lineage
      • but some people like the crowd noise from the aud tapes some like the sbd...
      • i saw some dude who had a matrix where he mixed it 3 times so there was a "dry" a "wet" and a "just right' mix of the crowd noise into the sbd tape
      • derwin
it seems like a technical detail like what studio it was recorded in, kinda
      • but we don't model like, what mixing boards were used...

Definitely sounds like an interesting detail (soundboard vs audience recording). I assume this would be stored at the recording level?

aerozol/derwin: What got me thinking about this is the fact that "Broadcast" is a primary type of recording. Since some of the boots I've tagged in recently were over FM (delaney & bonnie & friends) or HTTP (Marcus Mumford @ SF last fall), I suppose it got me thinking that there are two main divisions between boots (at least the "kind" i'm talking about, i.e., the kind from e.g., etree/nugs: audience (AUD) and
      • soundboard (SBD). To that there's another priamry type, broadcast plus the derrived matrix/hybrid type. There are also "stolen" masters, e.g., Dylan's [original] basement tapes.
      • I'm sure that there are some others that I'm not thinking of, but those would be the primary ones. I don't think it needs to get down into the nitty gritty of what recording devices/media was used in the transfer chain is useful to be captured in a dropdown/menu. When I tag in a boot, I put the entire info file into the annotation and that take care of the transfer chain.

      • this is obviously a terrible example for this since it shows SBD/FM so it's either a) unknown b) a cobination of FM and SBD.

      • Lineage: wav > Adobe Audition 3 > Izotope RX 10 Advanced > iZotope Neutron 3 > CD Wave > flac16
      • None of that should be captured anywhere other than the annotation imho, though if there was some sort of separate menu for boots, it would be useful.
      • all of that boils down to AUD.

      • I suppose, looking at one of the JHE boots, it is useful to know if it is a SBD/AUD if you're starting with MBDB and going looking for the boot (which I've done since I wanted the show that The Dead played at Allegheny College). In particular the JHE Boot info file has this note:
      • Here are two early 1968 shows and both from the same day. The second show is of particular interest as it features a rare outing of Bold As Love which is as far as is known the only live example of this number. It also has the rarely played Midnight Lamp.
      • NB: These are audience recordings so please don't download if you are not prepared to put up with their rough and ready nature. However audience recordings, even of the vintage, can convey a great deal more of the atmosphere of the actual show than some soundboard recordings.

I don't suppose anyone has suggestions for finding solid release date information. https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/9b333348-... and https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/829f3cb3-... were both released by Green Linnet in the 90s and then reissued as "30 Years of Green Linnet" / "Remastered" editions after Compass Records bought Green Linnet. Both also only mention the
      • original 90s release date, so I'm hoping someone can help me find the release date for the remasters.
