Quick test to see if this goes through. New Matrix account on a new chat client, and my first time using a bridge to IRC.
Dope! It works.

Hey all, if I have a Single that's released on two different platforms on two different dates that's otherwise the same, do I group it as one release, or two?

binzy_boi[m]: there's no strict consensus on that AFAIU, however if that's the only difference then I just create one release and use the earlier date
aerozol
Yeah, I would say it depends on if there was something significant about the release - or something else changed, like album art or label

Sounds good, thanks for that. That's more or less what I was working off of already
CatQuest
well. you an't actually have two release dates with the same place ([worldwide]) so...
can't* even
i honestly am never sure about these
reosarevok
Basically, we consider all stores the same unless there's a clear difference, so just store the earliest, yes
binzy_boi[m]
Would track order be considered a clear difference?
atj
yes of course
reosarevok
Yeah
binzy_boi[m]
So if the tracks are the same, but in different order, then that's considered a different release, got it
reosarevok
Unless you have a reason to consider it just a store mistake, but probably not :)
And honestly maybe even then
atj
as a general rule differences in barcode, artwork, label, track number and track order should entail a separate release
I have a song that was posted on Soundcloud, but has since been removed by the musician. I have enough evidence to say it was a single, but because Wayback Machine hasn't saved the page before it was deleted, I don't have the track length.
The song was reposted on YouTube a few times, should I use the track lengths from there?
reosarevok
If you're reasonably confident it's the same, sure
binzy_boi[m]
Mainly asking because it was remixed a few times.
reosarevok
Just say that that's your source in the edit note
binzy_boi[m]
Sounds good, thanks
reosarevok
If you're not reasonably confident, just leave length blank, it's not mandatory
