lol at the top rated comment. I tried to be a bit more helpful but even I had to roll my eyes a little bit… https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1j...

        lol
      • I do think I have a CD to add to musicbrainz later, some random CD from a ukulele kids teaching book :)
      • Just need to get the CD out again..

<elomatreb[m]> "@applecuckoo: Is there something..." <- elomatreb: whoops, just saw this - let's see...... (full message at <https://matrix.chatbrainz.org/_matrix/media/v3/...>)
      • elomatreb[m]
@applecuckoo: that’s quite a list! These documentation pages are managed as a wiki, if you want you can make these changes yourself or I can do it later today (https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Work#External_data...)
      • applecuckoo[m]1
oh what? you can edit it?
      • oh whoops, just saw the account button
      • elomatreb: hey uh why is the create account page returning error 401?
      • it looks like it's springing a lot of sign in prompts at me
      • elomatreb[m]
Sorry, an anti-Spam measure. You need to enter „NOTSPAM“ into both username and password fields of the popup you get
      • applecuckoo[m]1
        ah, right. thanks!
      • elomatreb[m]
It used to give that instruction in the popup itself but browsers stopped showing that due to phishing attacks
      • applecuckoo[m]1
hmm, maybe that could go in a banner instead?
      • elomatreb: thanks for the heads up - I'll probably get to editing the database stuff later.
      • _justin_kelly716 is now known as _justin_kelly71

the rate limit header that listenbrainz uses looks like a pretty smart solution. why does the musicbrainz api has a static rate limit?
      • rustynova[m]
Because 1 per sec is easy to use.
      • Listenbrainz is a bit more dynamic and change depending on whether you fed it an authorisation header.
      • Personally I like having a rate limit header as I like being able to do some bursting to improve UX, but I still struggle to make a working implementation of a rate limiter on the client side...
      • (That is actually async and prioritize processing the received data over sending more requests without consulting what the limits are cured

        question
      • BlastboomStrice[ uploaded an image: (15KiB) < https://matrix.chatbrainz.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/4d2.org/YckPkSrtIhWTEMeGKBFdUoMA/image.png >
      • I tried to make a change to the artist
      • but I think I did some kind of a change and got conflicts
      • does that mean that my edit got cancelled?
      • do I have to redo it?
      • reosarevok[m]
Usually yes. If you link to the edit I can probably tell you what conflicted
      • BlastboomStrice[
oh thanks, ok I got it
      • I suppose I should had cancelled the intermediate edit to prevent this, right?
      • Changing the artist and then changing the name of the artist while both edits were open probably wasnt the best idea
      • reosarevok[m]
        Yeah, probably :)
      • Updating production servers
      • kellnerd[m]
Eh, two weeks of beta testing and I still haven't found the time to test the new API feature that I requested 😅
      • reosarevok[m]
        Oh no
      • wileyfoxyx[m]
and oh yes for me because I can finish my label cleaning 🙌
      • reosarevok[m]
wileyfoxyx: let us know if it seems broken still, but hopefully it'll work :)
      • wileyfoxyx[m]
reosarevok (@_discord_1151240977378463764:chatbrainz.org): everything worked fine, though it still took a while to apply the edit (perhaps because of the VPN i'm using)
      • reosarevok[m]
No, we expect it to be slow
      • Just not so slow the site times out
      • But IIRC bitmap tested it and it was like one fifth or something of the time but still quite a few seconds?
      • wileyfoxyx[m]
yeah, it was slower than usual edits
      • bitmap[m]
reordering the apple digital master series will take ~11s now (previously ~73s 😬)
      • there is still a performance issue but it won't entirely time out
      • elkiensad[m]
does "SoundCloud: MusicBrainz import" work for you?
      • airwaves[m]
I can ask questions about editing metadata here right?
      • so I've tried to merge two release groups, they've gone yellow for some reason. not sure if I've done it right
      • I clicked "Merge release groups" after selecting them both
      • * them both, and did the form thing
      • elkiensad[m]
yellow means the edits are open
      • airwaves[m]
        ohhh
      • elkiensad[m]
it'll close after a week or 3 accept votes
      • airwaves[m] has not done this before
      • check this page
      • airwaves[m]
ahh! think I've only done one edit that needed approval so far, so not used to the process
      • did see merge > delete so did that
      • elkiensad[m]
you've done right if the release groups are identical
      • airwaves[m]
        yep
      • funnily enough I somehow managed to submit the same release group twice, hence the merge
      • elkiensad[m]
everyone makes the same mistake sometimes it is alright
