zas: do you have any suggestions for using chef for development? for example, can I use local version of the source code instead of pulling it from a git repo?

Gentlecat: not sure what you mean here, you can use local files at least during developpement phase, but at the end you'll need to have code available either in the cookbook repo (ie. scripts) or as external source (can be anything, usually versionned files via git, but also external archives)

you can probably add a development attribute that tells it not to pull the source if it's set

the thing is about to make things reproductible, running chef cookbooks on one machine or another should produce the same result

I was writing that cookbook for CB, but it pulls from the repo

ah yes, if you need a staging state you can use attributes

would be nice to have something similar to current state of things: vagrant VM which shares a directory and a couple of ports

btw, i'm fighting chef and letsencrypt, the thing is not trivial, and we need letsencrypt to be handled by chef on gateways, i found an existing cookbook, but i could get it to work on VM yet, i'll give it another try soon

It's not folded into the current MeB cert stuff and has about two and a half weeks left before its cert expires. It just needs to get folded in with the other stuff so that bb.o remains SSLful.

zas: the js has been making requests with empty mbid= parameters, so the duplicate checker wasn't filtering out the same entity, it was seeing it as a duplicate of itself

it takes the mbid from the window's URL now, so it shouldn't be empty

Other projects are using LE, right? If so, it'd definitely be better if BB did too. The current cert was a result of us doing our own thing and not thinking to ourselves, "Let's ask Rob what to do".

When I got back I caught up on IRC and forums and did a rough sorting of GSoC proposals.

Today I took steps to infiltrate^Wimprove our relations with Freenode, joining their "Group Advisory Board" (see https://freenode.net/groupreg ). Not really sure what this will mean in practice, but I'm getting a lot of love for Music- and MetaBrainz in its channel. :)

last week I finished up finances for the month (finally).

not too much in the way of office/business stuff since it is semana santa here.

a couple of skype calls (one with the laywer who came in via discourse)

on wednesday after noon thursday I spent the day fixing LB's rate limiting stuff. once I thought about JS's "threading" model, all became clear.

friday was some holiday goofing off, some looking out for gsoc stuff.

submitted a giant PR to make our artist credits editors consistent (they're different in the release editor right now) and using React

so we can use that for the transl* tracklist editor UI

and fixed the CAA issue reosarevok mentioned, so we don't accidentially index "503 server busy" XML anymore

there is some issue with authentication which prevents me from running some of them properly and we still don't know what's up with that

done some code review for MBS, LB

looked at more GSoC proposals

and finished writing requirements document for communication features, waiting for ruaok to take a look at that

Heh, that reminds me rika keeps failing some random oauth related test and not letting me run tests properly since like two years ago

I guess that's a different issue than the one you're getting though
