Leftmost: were I to try to plan some sort of north-american MB meetup, is there any sort of schedule that'd be better for you? I'm trying to cast about and see what people feel like
      • demosdemon, if you'd be interested, likewise

      • Leftmost
ianmcorvidae, not really. Christmas isn't a great time, but those are the only solid plans I have.
      • ianmcorvidae
        fair enough
      • I was thinking early next year, probably, since holidays are terrible

      • Leftmost
Early next year would be just fine, I imagine.
      • An NA summit would be great.
      • ianmcorvidae
yeah; I'm still fuzzy on what all we'd do/talk about
      • but I think we'd figure something out :P
      • Leftmost
        No doubt. :)
      • Any feedback on any of the plans spelled out earlier for BB?
      • ianmcorvidae
        not really
      • the discussion seemed pretty good, anyway
      • I don't have a clear vision or anything though
      • warp
        needs more RDF!
      • Leftmost
Even after all this time I still don't really see the RDF use case and no one has managed yet to explain it.
      • warp
Leftmost: rdf just allows different datasources to easily talk about the same things.
      • ianmcorvidae
it's overlapping with a lot of things, it's true
      • what I really like about it is how much power you can get out of such a simple model
      • I mean, RDF has... I guess two types of things? triples and URIs
      • where MB has a bunch of entities and aliases and IDs and etc.
      • Leftmost
warp, provided they've chosen the same ontology, of course. And I guess I just don't see it being used to good effect as often as one would hope.
      • ianmcorvidae
I agree that it has a lot of unrealized promise though :)
      • warp
Leftmost: I haven't seen it used a lot (yet) in the places where it would be useful.
      • Leftmost: so I'm mostly interested in it in the sense that if I eventually manage to set up my videogamebrainz thing, I want to link to soundtracks and artists in musicbrainz, perhaps to writers in bookbrainz, etc..
      • Leftmost
The two things I've found telling were the simple typo in MB's generated RDF that went unnoticed for a very long time and the fact that I wasn't able to find a basic book ontology.
      • ianmcorvidae
well, nobody actually uses the MB one IIRC :P

      • Leftmost
I'm definitely strongly leaning toward focusing heavily on database structure for now. I would really like to ape the changes to MB going forward and I think that's going to be difficult until bitmap is in place and plans start being made for transition.

      • Every time I learn a new framework I feel like an idiot.
      • warp
I felt like that looking at hydra this weekend.
      • namedtuples are still fun.
      • return namedtuple("InfoResponse", response)(**response)
      • Freso
        I like **variables
      • I'm not sure I completely understand them, but they sure are neat.
      • warp
        :)
      • ianmcorvidae
python star magic is pretty fun :)
      • though for an unpopular opinion it reminds me a lot of perl argument passing :P
      • warp
ianmcorvidae: it probably should be used in moderation :)
