Are media_url's only provided through the listenbrainz API?

that data is only stored in the listen itself.

so you can find them through the listens api if the urls were submitted with the listen.

In terms of the player LB runs a search against the player/spotify/youtube etc, and plays the result (if that’s what you’re asking about). Lucifer will correct if I’m wrong

I was thinking about making a extractor or something similar for yt-dlp that can get the media url (i.e. youtube/spotify/soundcloud link) from a mbid and download that, thanks for the information

If we ever did that (and it might be a good idea to tackle it eventually) I believe it would be by querying the MBID of the recording/release in MusicBrainz. MusicBrainz does have support for URL relationships to different players. How many are populated/editors have filled in, is another question

Most likely a combination of the current search + using the url if it exists (meaning that users can correct incorrect plays) would be the way to go

One thing though is that most people don't really fill in links in MB, which makes it a pain to use in external apps as you have to mix the APIs

Would love to have a Brainzplayer endpoint that does that work for you. Although it might bring a bigger load of the API quotas

Bit of a chicken and egg situation, there’s no reason to fill in streaming links on MB at the moment. If there’s a reason to it might pick up. That said the LB team focus is still on stability rn, afaik, might be a while

Yeah definitely. I'll probably start filling some when I finish my yt playlist exporter. Because I'll definitely try to read the URL from MusicBrainz in priority... Well when I actually integrate URL relationships in the cache...

What's the requirements for an artist to show up in the flesh releases?

Just that it has a future release date I think? I don't really know tbh, but I assume it's that simple

Because I only have new releases from the 13 December, but when I look at the releases out, some newer ones are not showing up despite me having listened to the artist before

Like here's what I got from LB, VS what I filtered as my " listened artists" (I take the total listens for the artist then divide by the number of recordings that I listened to made by this artist)

MF mosh pit have no reasons to not show up. I listen both to timmy trumpet (Only Freak) and a lot of Sullivan King.

The Raizhell remix and Melee should be there too, as I got Feed me remixes in my feed
