So, close the first two and leave the other to rot while open?
Freso
chirlu: Yeah.
chirlu
OK
Freso
Will 3722 be "Fixed" by the "unified search and browse interface" getting done, bitmap?
bitmap
nope
kepstin
I guess we need to come up with a new next step for 3722 now that the mailing lists are gone ;)
Freso
kepstin: That's not hard though.
bitmap
requires some additional work on MBS to expose the /all endpoint
Freso
Anyway, I think the next step for that ticket is for CJ_ to implement it in the SOLR project.
bitmap
so I told ruchiranga not to implement a UI for that
Freso
Okay.
kepstin
my impression is that the results aren't really merged atm - it basically searches multiple things in parallel and returns multiple sets of results?
Freso
Should I make a discussion about it on Discourse about "what [people] would like to see here"?
bitmap: Does ruchiranga's code rely on that unified search endpoint?
bitmap
no, I told him not to do anything that requires that
Freso
It might be easier and saner for CJ_ to just disregard what ijabz may have done for the current SEARCH server.
Though that brings us back to scratch.
But eh.
CJ_ bitmap, final thoughts on that?
bitmap
I'm not sure what the decision needed was :P
Freso
If not, that's what I'm going to go forward with: MBS-3722 being dependent on SOLR project getting finished and SOLR project having a unified search interface thingy.
bitmap
sure
Freso
If someone's unhappy with that, they have about 10 seconds to object.
I'll make it so.

Thanks for your attention. :)
TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz | MeB meeting agenda: Reviews
kepstin
tbh, now that the site is indexed, we're really competing with doing a google search for "site:musicbrainz.org some keywords" with this unified search project
(which, for me, returns the release by madonna as the first result)
LordSputnik
ruaok: You don't think Trump is the best of the three remaining options? :P
(for Republican nominees, anyway)
reosarevok
LordSputnik: are the other two options "Sony Music" and "Mutual Nuclear Annihilation"?
Freso
I thought MNA was Trump?
Mineo has quit
LordSputnik
reosarevok: Ted Cruz is a nutcase who's both more likely to get into the White House and has worse policies. Don't know about Rubio though :P
ruaok
LordSputnik: THAT>
I always thought that Trump was a decoy for Cruz.
manu-chroma joined the channel
yeeeargh
not gegen elend :D
gcilou
I turn 18 four days before election day... who knows if I even want to vote then :)
reosarevok
gcilou: if the option is crazy Republican nutjob and literally anyone else, please do vote
LordSputnik
^ that
reosarevok
Save us from them :p
gcilou
lol, I will vote :P
ruaok
there is only one non-nutjob in the running.
LordSputnik
Hillary may be untrustowrthy, but at least she isn't some redneck climate-change denying bible basher/fascist
Bernie's pretty cool but I think super delegates have screwed him over
kepstin has never really understood how us presidential candidates are chosen
LordSputnik
kepstin: each party hosts preliminary votes (from what I can tell, either "primaries" or "caucuses"). The majority vote chooses the Republican candidate. The majority vote plus some extra party elite votes chooses the Democratic candidate
Caucuses seem to be some weird "move around a room" thing, while primaries are more traditional voting
and when they can't be bothered to count the votes anymore, they flip a coin and decide who to assign their delegates to
:P
kepstin
in canada, each party chooses (in advance, and however they like, but it usually involves a vote by party members and interested registered citizens) someone to be their party leader.
that leader is then elected as a member of parliament, the same as any other mp
LordSputnik
kepstin: that's how it works in the UK
kepstin
and the party that wins the most seats picks the prime minister
LordSputnik
It's because we basically have the same political system, as does Australia
kepstin
makes sense, canadian system was modeled after uk ;)
gcilou
uh parliament, prime minister? lol, long live 'murica !
kepstin
i think the theory is that the elected members of parliament choose amongst themselves one person to be the prime minister, but in reality with parties the candidates for the position are picked well in advance
LordSputnik
gcilou: but I like having a political system which sort of works ;)
gcilou
hehe yeahhh. I guess that's the goal ;)
kepstin
there's some awkwardness where it's possible that the leader of a party doesn't get elected, but other members of the party do :)
Freso
"sort of"...
LordSputnik
Freso: ie. one that doesn't shut down the public sector twice in 4 years ;)
kepstin
(in that case, usually one of the other members gives up their seat, and a byelection is held where the party leader runs in their place)
gcilou
honestly, I don't understand politics whatsoever. especially us politics
Freso
Does anyone understand US politics?
LordSputnik
kepstin: haha, except not if you're the Liberal Democrats in the UK, where they went from 60 MPs to just 4
