I think the issue is it goes out of sync with each schema change and dies and nobody wants to bother fixing it because well, it's not our main product, it's just stuff for software which doesn't use MB...
      • rahulr
        ruaok: I got left.. :)
      • reosarevok
        Oh. rahulr: go :)
      • ruaok
        shit, sorry rahulr. :(
      • yeah, go.
      • rahulr
        NP :)
      • ruaok
        see, not tracking well.
      • rahulr
I've been working on finishing up the track search dialog box.
      • Added a search box into that dialog, so one can search further without closing the dialog.
      • Added support for advanced query syntax for searching tracks from within Picard, though hacky.
      • Opened up a PR related to my work -> https://github.com/metabrainz/picard/pull/475
      • Here's a screenshot of current state of the box -> http://imgur.com/kUkXagC
      • That's all. Fin. :)
      • CatQuest
        noice!
      • ruaok
        thanks rahulr
      • back to freedb vm.
      • this is why I was against this project in the first place.
      • bitmap
rahulr: I'll have the dismax changes on beta.mb.org later today, btw
      • ruaok
if people want to use MB, why can't you fucking change your client? its been *10* years.
      • how about we do this: we sunset the project in 1 year.
      • change your shit or go back to freedb.
      • thoughts?
      • reosarevok
If we can't make the updating automatic, +1
      • ruaok
        we can't.
      • chirlu: thoughts on restarting it? want a VM yet? :)
      • chirlu
Well, I’m not particularly attached to it even though I agreed to maintain it, since I’m not using it myself.
      • Yes, I’ve warmed up on the idea of a Google VM. :)
      • ruaok
i appreciate your efforts doubly then. :)
      • chirlu
Also because if the current VM is fixed, we still have the issue of an outdated Postgres.
      • ruaok
ok, send me an email with the specs. pick a machine from the cloud compute line up and let me know how much disk you want.
      • yerp.
      • or just tell me here and I'll make a VM after the meeting.
      • chirlu
So if I can install Pg 9.5 on the Google VM, that would probably be the simpler solution.
      • ruaok
someone remind me later to sunset the freedb gateway by posting a blog post.
      • that is the idea.
      • google will not complain about what we do with their VMs, the way OSU complains.
      • ok, I think freso just wanted to remind people about filling out the mid-term evals.
      • so, do it!
      • last topic: INST. reosarevok: go
      • reosarevok
So, CatQuest asked if he can be the default asignee for INST (kinda like drsaunder is for AREA) and just ask me if he has doubts
      • ruaok
        on jira?
      • reosarevok
I think that sounds fine, but I thought it'd be reasonable to make sure it's ok with others
      • yep
      • CatQuest
        yes
      • ruaok has no issues with that
      • reosarevok
        Ok :)
      • That was easy :p
      • CatQuest
        ja jøss
      • ruaok
        anyone else have any objections?
      • ruaok hears none.
      • reosarevok: bake it so.
      • reosarevok
CatQuest: so basically I'd say "add directly only if Wikipedia shows it as a different instrument, if not let me know and let's go over it together quickly" if that's ok with you?
      • CatQuest
        totally :D
      • reosarevok
        Ok! :)
      • ruaok
        yay.
      • ok, all done with time to spare.
      • thanks everyone
      • </BANG>
      • n1-standard-2 or n1-standard-4 with 100GB of disk would be my guess
      • chirlu
I’ll look at it in an hour or so.
      • ruaok
        k
      • chirlu
What I find interesting is that people apparently write a lot to the support email, but there are no complaints at all in most other channels. :) (Discourse, JIRA; a few questions were there on IRC.)
      • reosarevok
CatQuest: what out of your twenty usernames is the jira one? I forget :p
      • CatQuest
        :P
      • reosarevok
chirlu: a few on twitter too
      • CatQuest
reosarevok: zaphod, I think (though I think it dispalys as catquest tec!)
      • also i have like 4
      • ruaok
        4??
      • 40. :)
      • reosarevok
        CatQuest: done :)
      • CatQuest

        QuoraUK, pong. Sorry about that.
      • QuoraUK
        oh >.< haha, no worries
      • Leftmost
I have impeccable timing. Terrible, but impeccable. :)
      • QuoraUK
haha, not a problem, I just finished for the day, so right on time :)
      • Leftmost
So how does this usually work? Haven't had time to peruse the logs.
      • QuoraUK
pretty much just go over what I did in the day
      • perhaps comment on anything you may have seen that could do with changing
      • questions or comments to finish usually :)
      • So today I figured out the react problem I was having, so profiles are complete except for maaking them pretty and some error handling
      • got the streak achievements all done
      • made a start on the admin system, and drew up a few more badges
      • Leftmost
Do you have a working doc with the achievements/badges you're planning, maybe some status info?
      • QuoraUK
so im planning on using the BB dev docs for that, I can add them to it tommorow
      • I dont have a document at the moment
      • Leftmost
Alright. That may be a useful thing to put together if you have some time in the next couple days, especially since Ben and I will be meeting with you at different times.
      • Might help us both keep track of your progress. :)
      • QuoraUK
noted, I'll make a start on that in the morning :)
      • Leftmost
Thanks. Mostly I need to get up to speed, and that would help a fair bit. So let me know if this sounds about right: database layout and JS access layer are generally in place, now it's planning out the actual achievements and providing the necessary UI bits?
      • QuoraUK
        pretty much yeah
      • there are the odd little things to add to the the db and access layers, but most of the stuff I need is there
      • Leftmost
Sounds good. I'm glancing at the PRs that are out at the moment.
      • Or rather, branches.

ruaok: In the mail, I had written exactly what I wanted to say for the GSoC topic...

QuoraUK, how are restricted permissions enforced on the admin page, if at all?
      • QuoraUK
at the moment they aren't I only just setup the basics of it
      • That was going to be one of my questions though
      • Leftmost
Alright. I think that's something we may need to address in a broader way.
      • QuoraUK
As in, is there any notion of an admin at the moment
      • Leftmost
There isn't, and I'd been meaning to bring that up.
      • QuoraUK
        I see >.<
      • would it be something that may be implemented in the near future?
      • Or something we could discuss in the next bb meeting
      • Leftmost
Yeah, it should be a fairly simple fix and I might just take it on in the next couple days.
      • Your code is probably fine as-is for the moment, since we won't be pushing the code out any time soon. Maybe add a XXX comment saying to switch it over to admin-only privs.
      • QuoraUK
ok, yeah I will do that :)

A couple comments on the code. Would it be most helpful to point them out here or inline on github?
      • QuoraUK
        Inline would be handy :)
      • Leftmost
Okay, cool. I'll do so this evening.
      • QuoraUK
thats what LordSputnik has been doing for the most part
      • awesome, cheers
      • I have one question before we go If we are done with the comments
      • Leftmost
I don't have much more to say at the moment, just looking through code to see what's what. Any questions, comments, insinuations, short bursts of song?
      • Go for it.
      • QuoraUK
I was curious if anything differentiates creation of an entity from editing
      • its different in code, but I cant find a field or anything that I can make use of to determine it
      • im just using no. of revisions of that type at the moment
      • kahu has quit
      • Leftmost
The way we currently determine that, if I recall, is whether the parent of a revision is set.
      • If there's no parent revision, it's a creation event.
      • QuoraUK
so would that be in X_data relationtion_set
      • I thought it would be publication_header.master_revision_id originally but that didn't work out
      • Leftmost
No, the revision table should have a parent relation on it. One sec.
