I had a lot of plans for this week, and I got pretty much nothing done. :/
I did get the first few(!) lines of code written for a script to import Spotify releases into MusicBrainz (using editor form seeding), but still a long way to go on that.
A bit earlier today I met up with Rob in Copenhagen and had him haul the first part of my stuff for Barcelona back to his place.
We also talked a bit about recent (and less) recent events in MusicBrainz and MetaBrainz.
One of the things we talked about was job openings - right now we're looking for 2 people:
a) 1 business developer/bizdev person to take over from Christina, and
b) 1 Perl developer to help the development of musicbrainz-server.
We're not going to actively go hunt to get these positions filled until we're live at NewHost, but if the right person for either of the jobs suddenly appears, we'll jump on it. So if you know anyone, let them and us know! :)
also worked on replacing memcached with redis to simplify deployment @ newhost

CatQuest
hello, is it me now?
Freso
Yes.
CatQuest
um ok so
so the previous week I did add some instruments
(including the Māori instrument ensemble Taonga pūoro)
but again I was limited by my cat being sick, and, unfortunately on tuesday, he died ;(
and it seems this week wont be much either as I've developed a cold, I'll work hard once it clears up.
fin!
alastairp
Taonga pūoro!
CatQuest
:)
alastairp
that's a nose flute, right?
CatQuest
its an ensemble of various instruments
reosarevok
Aww, poor cat :(
CatQuest
among them a flute that seems nose flut-y
reosarevok
And poor CatQuest. Get better!
CatQuest
yes, it was all very sudden
yes, i hopw so, thnak you reosarevok
reosarevok
But thanks for picking up on my slacking on INST :)
CatQuest
no prob :) thanks for doing artist create instruments style request already
reosarevok
It's waited ages for me to take on it, so it can wait until you're feeling well
CatQuest
both my body and soul is sad :(
reosarevok
It'll pass :)
CatQuest

Anything else for now or should we let the next one go? :)

Gentlecat

CatQuest
alastairp?

I worked a lot with armalcolite last week, we did really well on polishing up all of his PRs. Hopefully rob and I can coordinate this week to start getting them merged. There are quite a few dependencies, so it may take a while, but there's some good stuff there
reosarevok
Yeah, I guess his network *was* flaky
alastairp
A bit on AB, but not much. hellska's first patch is ready, a really major schema change, that Gentlecat and I finished reviewing today, and I'll try and merge tomorrow
That's about it
reosarevok

That sounds pretty good on both fronts :) Nice to hear gsoc is going well!
rahulr: your turn it seems :)
rahulr
Yeah.
Added refresh functionality to the track dialog, and got it working as expected.
Improved error displaying in the dialog.
Fixed some nits as suggested on PR.
The track dialog is final from my side, looking forward to getting that merged.
Worked on the album dialog, got it running. I'll open up a PR by the end of this week after discussing with bitmap.
That's all. Fin. :)
CatQuest
all the gsoc peopel doin' good :D
bitmap
CatQuest: sorry about your cat :(
CatQuest
thank you bitmap

Got all my unit testing and cleanup done on the profile page branch, that is now up in a pull request that LordSputnik is going through, the rest of the week has been working on the next branch to merge, getting tests done and documentation :D
And finally realized the truth about the timezones!
4. Addressed the feedback on the "splitting of listen -> listen + listen_json table" PR. Its ready for the merging.
5. Continued work on the GSoC project, api_compat branch. (https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-serv...) Tested and added new methods as used by the official lastfm client. Also, made the methods compatible for both audacious & lastfm-client as some use the old API. Also tested it on the windows client.

Spent quite a lot of time discussing with alastairp and Gentlecat regarding almost all the PR's on improving the logic and workflow of the code. The end products were tickets, short-notes, code-reviews and the improved code. :D
Also i spent quite some time in addressing a lot of feedback this week on all of my branches. Most of the issues were related to formatting/logic/simplicity in all the PR. And by lot, i really mean a lot!
fin.

Gentlecat: Nothing from me.
Eh.
IRC notifications
Gentlecat
ah, yeah
so we have these notifications enabled for LB
for pushes and pull requests IIRC
I was doing a bunch of work on the project and it gets quite spammy
Freso doesn't mind
CatQuest either
1. I'm not sure why we have them enabled just for LB, there's nothing special about it
2. all this stuff is visible on github and it sends out email notifications for those interested anyway
CatQuest
true, but it's als onice sometimes to get "there's been work done " messages in general on irc
Gentlecat
I just ended up muting it, wanted to ask what others think
that's why I'm asking why not other projects too then
CatQuest
yes, that' a fair point i agree with
Gentlecat
I think I can get behind having notifications for PRs, but pushes are just too much
CatQuest
yea, that makes sense to me
Gentlecat
I tend to push a lot for example, but that's not finished work
Freso
I think ruaok's point back when was that LB was the newest project and that the notifications helped keep it in mind people's minds(?).
But that's just a vague recollection, which might well be wrong/off.
CatQuest
pr's are.. again what ?
push requests. maybe too much
Gentlecat
pull requests
Freso
Personally I don't find the messages to be too overwhelming yet, and I'd also be happy to see other projects post to the channel.
CatQuest
i agree with freso on both accounts
bitmap
I like the idea of enabling pr notifications for all projects and disabling them for pushes
Freso
I'd also be fine with that. :)
reosarevok
Yeah, that sounds good to me as well
Freso
Anyone else?
Gentlecat
though I'm not sure if there's a way to have that just for PRs
Freso
There is.
reosarevok
If there is, I'd say do it. If not, I don't mind either way whether to remove all or leave LB
alastairp
We had them because when we did our hack day we had them in our original hackday channel and they stayed
Freso
GitHub's IRC notification system is actually pretty flexible/powerful.
