        Which?
      • CatQuest
        discourse splitting
      • Freso
It's not urgent. We'll take it next week.
      • CallerNo6
        cliffhanger!
      • Freso
        ^
      • CatQuest
        hn
      • CatQuest dislikes not finishing things.. CallerNo6 yo uhad a link about that!
      • Freso
CatQuest: Which is why I didn't want to cut off yvanz' topic just to squeeze the Discourse one in in the last few minutes, with not enough time to actually get it discussed.
      • LordSputnik
Freso: sorry I wasn't about for the meeting. Probably won't be around for 3 weeks, but after that I should be consistently here :)
      • Freso
LordSputnik: As long as you're available for QuoraUK this week for their final eval and make your own final eval next week, I'm good.
      • CatQuest
hmm I just thought of something.. should Critique Brainz just be about music? should it not also maybe be a "repository for creative commons licensed music reviews" but maybe book (and ultimatly movie reviews too?)
      • and if we get GameBrainz too
      • Freso
I think Gentlecat at one point talked about getting BB hooked into CB? Maybe I'm misremembering.
      • CatQuest
and also I have a hen to pick with you LordSputnik
      • srsly
      • Gentlecat
        yes, that would be good
      • somebody just need to do the work integrating two together
      • CatQuest
i wouldn't midn that at all
      • but LordSputnik hello!
      • Gentlecat
also, it's not just music anymore
      • we have places and events
      • CatQuest
        no?
      • yvanz
CatQuest: what about the instruments description field topic? is more discussion needed?
      • (oh, it just took me so long to write a sentence, you already started another topic :)
      • CatQuest
yvanz: i definitely want more discussion on it, but finally, I have not as much to say about it, I will ldefer to reosarevok, Gentlecat and others about waht they think is best
      • lazka_ joined the channel
      • ah, but basically, what reosarevok said, that if we *do* make a decission to change these disamb. we'd need to go through all of them anyway, so I might as well add instruments like I have been doing, and not to wory about it
      • I do add my own text and do try to be as short as possible
      • yvanz
Yes, it is more a question of what's the best way to handle translations. The disambiguation (or description with short content) is missing anyway.

ruaok, Freso: I'd quite like to go to the mentor summit but won't know for sure if I can make it until end of September. So if you need two definites before then I'll have to skip this one
      • CatQuest
yvanz: yes for many of thme this is true, they are blank
      • LoooooordSputnik: ಠ_ಠ
      • LordSputnik
CatQuest: link to console paste seen, I'll investigate
      • CatQuest
oh good. I was wondering if you were avoiding me for a reason or something :V
      • LordSputnik
        No no :)
      • CatQuest
        good :)
      • I'll play some torchlight and drink bailies then :P

      • hi MBJenkins !
      • !m MBJenkins
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, MBJenkins!
      • LordSputnik
Just half way through scanning a pile of papers on Windows, so no development going on
      • CatQuest
        ick
      • :)
      • well the scanning part. it's a pita no matter what systme you're on
      • chirlu
      • LordSputnik
CatQuest: yeah but better than having piles of papers :)
      • Good news is that I'm loving using the Redux library and I've got the alias part of the new editing form done :D
      • CatQuest
        cant wait to test :D
      • are they the colourful flat ones? i liekd those

      • LordSputnik
CatQuest: the style is similar to the current one but the layout is better, validation is clearer and it's really really fast and responsive
      • CatQuest
        :O
      • Freso
So, LordSputnik, I'm not sure how to add this pizza place flier.
      • CatQuest
        ¬_¬
      • 
      • LordSputnik
Freso: same as a comic, when they bring out a new pizza flier, add it as an edition to the same publication :P
      • CatQuest
        but seriously, pizza flyrs?
      • LordSputnik
CatQuest: what version of FF was that paste from?
      • CatQuest
        Ⅾ:
      • LordSputnik
I thought you updated to 30-something?
      • CatQuest
hmm I was having issues with installed plugins to make it work like before comflicting with eacother...
      • I'll try again
      • I'm sorry
      • LordSputnik
A lot of the errors in that are to do with select2, which we're probably dropping eventually, and I can try fixing a couple of the others
      • CatQuest
        thank you
      • yvanz
Gentlecat: “get things straight” translates into “mettre les points sur les i” in French, literally: to put dots on “i” letters. ;)
      • CatQuest
in any case, as long as it's this low a number, atleast it'll be working for more people or something? :B
      • yvanz: heeeh
      • kepstin
well, the problem with running any firefox version other than latest or supported esr (currently 45) is that you don't get any security fixes. It's about as bad as using windows xp :/
      • LordSputnik
CatQuest: yeah, it works in 38, and that's over a year old, so I think you're one of an unfortunate handful :(
      • CatQuest
        I'm an unfortunate handfull
      • hi
      • thanks for working on this. I'll try to get a grip and move over to the later 30 sometihng
      • kepstin
I'd strongly recommend 45 at the oldest, for your personal safety :/
      • CatQuest
djea but then things have to stop sucking and braking first and they wont
      • kepstin
so it's a choice between "has known security issues" and "i don't like the ui"? :/
      • CatQuest
I don't mind safty updates and wish I could get those and the usability ones WITHOUT the interface changes
      • it's a choize between "more and more sites breaking" and "I can't use this because halp"
      • kepstin
well, at the very least, make sure you have a good ad blocker installed, consider using noscript, and be careful about what sites you go to :/
      • CatQuest
heh I have an adblocker, a cookie blokcer a flash blocker and RequestPolicy (which blocks *every* single offsite link unless i explicitly allow it)
      • s/link/request
      • I think ghostery was there at one point too but I got rid of it because between the others it was unecessary
      • but yea, I'd love if someone could just.. idk, put all the upgrade junk and usability junk from more recent editions and just. put it inside something that works the same way the ui does in the one i have
      • I'm fed up with borwsers that require upgrading every 30 minutes honestly
      • and this "remove all text from buttons and make those buttons so fucking gray hat do they mean? who cares!!! uuhhm... mobile stuff! waheeyy" whatever
      • kepstin
tbh, the firefox ui hasn't actually changed in quite a long time at this point. it's getting close to the time when they're probably gonna rewrite the ui all again...
      • CatQuest
great. hopefully they'll reinvent the wheel and let me put in text under the icons again! \o/
      • there is a user blug in thatallows this. but it conflicts with a plug in that colours tabs so they hshow up indomain colours
      • (very, very useful for me to see if tabs belogn to the same domain very fast)
      • i use it so much
      • LordSputnik
CatQuest: maybe you could try going up one version at a time, then fixing the UI to how you like it incrementally?
      • CatQuest
and then I have an issue with "session manager" stopping wokring after 35
      • LordSputnik: yea that's what I was doing
      • kepstin
well, going up one version at a time won't really help, because it's a sudden jump from the old xul-based ui to the "australis" ui
      • CatQuest
but the problem was that it literally didn't have the ablity to change that I liked after.. what was it 30 or something
      • yes that
      • asically 2i can chose icons with text underneath" or "make everything look like chorme!!!11"
      • kepstin
      • it was a complete ui rewrite that broke basically all ui modifying extensions
      • CatQuest
loi "Designing great products that make sense & bring joy"
      • ye, that.. that is so useless ot me
      • http://people.mozilla.org/~shorlander/blog-imag... is a coke btw, those are gray blobs that explain nothing
      • joke not coke
      • kepstin
hey, at least the icons in that menu have labels
      • CatQuest
yes but they don't if yo udrag thme naywhere
      • (:/)
      • but alas, i 'll have hope for the future about this redesign thing

      • CatQuest
        :crossing fingers:
      • kepstin
probably gonna be more of the same
      • CatQuest
I wonder if there is a unicode for that
      • whats the point then?
      • LordSputnik
CatQuest: have you tried other browsers?
      • kepstin
rebuilding the UI in HTML so they can just render the entire window using the browser
      • well, chrome is... basically the same
      • CatQuest
        and so is opera
      • LordSputnik
I think Opera's pretty good for customization
      • kepstin
I suppose there's internet explorer, but that's IE
      • CatQuest
        it *was*
      • and i'd use that fucking that if i wasn't using a mac here but no
      • regagain has quit
      • kepstin
(edge is of course basically the same ui layout as firefox and chrome, but even flatter)
      • CatQuest
last good opera was 12 on win and 10 on mac
      • what i liekd about ff whne i switched ot it was that it let me costumise things
      • I don't understand why people want things to be harder to use
      • if you like that chrome shit, fine! use it, let peopel customise so yo ucna have it differently
      • so people who like a can have a, people woh like gdgdbfdn cna have thnat then!
      • i don't get this bullshit "one way to do it and it's going ot be *this* way that everyone esle is doing
      • hello? peopel are not sillyputty to go trought a mold
      • people do things differntly
      • kepstin
well, as a software developer, supporting customization is *really hard*
      • CatQuest
        because thwy are differnt
      • well they managed until the ui change
      • kepstin
the fact that firefox still offers as much customization as it does (which is still far more than chrome) is the fact that the mozilla org is still paying devs to make it that way
      • but in order to do that, they need the browser defaults to appeal to the mass market :/
      • CatQuest
I just wish they did it properly, and not halfassed so people didn't have to install half a dozen plugins that conflict with eachother :/
      • oh yea that's fine , I don't mind assbackwards (to me, that is) "defaults"
      • it's whne the defaults are "mandatory" i just.. don't want ot upgrade
      • kepstin
so it's a hard balancing act of adding new features that people demand, fixing security issues, mass market appeal, and making sure customization works, and they simply don't have enough people working on it to do everything
      • CatQuest
it's like.. the browser is The tool i use on the computer the most, yanno? i need it to work *my* ay and not chnage la lthe time
      • kepstin
meanwhile, i'm sure google could do that with chrome - they sure have the money for it - but they explicitly chose not to
      • CatQuest
        yea, and that's assackwards completely
