we probably don't need a standalone pool at this point, i.e. it could be coded into LB

but I imagine it's possible to write a standalone pool that returns channel #s, I see a few examples on github

Sophist-UK: I just saw your replies to my question in chat history. Yes, I think the second URL should work, since both URLs are fetching release info. And the purpose of recording= in the second URL is for handling cases where there are more than 50 releases associated to a recording
      • bitmap
pika-pool seems to be actual connection pooling
      • but I guess you really only need one connection per LB process
      • so maybe not helpful
      • ruaok
yeah, doesn't look like a good fit.

      • alastairp
agentsim: hi, I don't think your second query is correct
      • that is, /ws/2/release/<mbid>?recording=<othermbid>
      • ruaok
my impression is to create a connection on the main server process and then have clients create channels from the connection as needed, closing the channel when done.
      • alastairp
is (as far as I know) not a valid query
      • you need either one (/release/<mbid>) or the other (/release/?recording=<mbid>)
      • bitmap
yeah, my impression is that it'll be easy to manage channels yourself like that
      • alastairp
it's true that the second type (called a "browse" query) is the only way of getting all releases which a recording appears on if there are more than 25
      • agentsim
alastairp: thanks, that was a dumb mistake, but unfortunately even the correctly formatted URL has the same issue
      • alastairp
it's also true that the additional data that you can ask for with ?inc is different for browse queries
      • ruaok
I'm going to be watching carefully for scalability issues in any case. and honestly connection pooling to rabbit is going to be much further down the list than a lot of other things.
      • alastairp
right. inc parameters are not equal for both types of queries
      • agentsim
ahh, I guess I missed that one in the docs
      • alastairp
in the worst case, you will have to do a browse query to get all release mbids, and then do a lookup query with the correct inc values for each release

        Quesito: about that one customer...
      • anyone who has a lyrics site, needs to be treated with care.
      • lyrics are the #1 ground for suing someone in this industry.
      • Quesito
yeah...I read up on lyrics....very interesting.
      • ^ditto Freso! :P

Freso: thank you. please do not remind me again in the future.
      • Quesito
It was interesting who currently maintains the rights for lyrics/the ability to 'give' rights...
      • ruaok
don't even get me started on all that. it is super complicated.
      • and ugly.
      • the basic thing to know: if someone approaches us and wants uses lyrics, you need to proceed with great caution.
      • Quesito
seems so. at least a solid latino daytime telenovela worth of complicated....
      • ruaok
with a dash of murder thrown in.
      • so, the first thing to as in any conversation is: do you have a license for lyrics and through whom is it? May we verify this information?

      • reading between the lines, they have no license and are looking to generate traffic.
      • so, go and ask them about their license. if they do have a license, tell them that we don't really do link exchanges.

hi, I've been playing with a Flatpak build of Picard for some time, and today I added it to Flathub; is that something that upstream Picard would be interested in? :)
      • samj1912
        its crazy cheap here :P
      • that soap :
      • CatQuest
samj1912: the sopa or the plane tickets? :P
      • soap*
      • ruaok
        zas, samj1912 ^^
      • samj1912
        bochecha: screenshots please :D
      • definitely yes, we are thinking of transitioning to a flatter look with 2.0, but we need CC stuff and svgs :P
      • bochecha
for those who don't know, Flatpak is a new way to build/distribute desktop apps on Linux, with bundling, sandboxing, deduplication and static deltas
      • CatQuest
when i read "Flatpak build of Picard" my mind conjures up some kind of IKEA deal o_O
      • bochecha
samj1912: it looks exactly like the regular Picard
      • CatQuest

      • ruaok had images of ikea come to mind
      • samj1912
oh, I thought you were talking about flatpak the theme :P
      • bochecha
right, the name flatpak is a wordplay on flat packing, used among others by Ikea (because it's packaging :P)
      • Leftmost
It could even bundle in the fpcalc stuff, which (currently) is not distributed by default in Fedora.
      • bochecha
Leftmost: and it fact, my build already does :-°
      • Leftmost
        <3
      • samj1912
ohhh, let me read about it
      • CatQuest
ohh, yes, that that ound good :D
      • bochecha
that's why I started looking into flatpak for picard, I use Fedora, the fpcalc stuff was missing
      • it's currently still building in flathub, I'll send a link as soon as it's done :)
      • Leftmost
bochecha, I like the cut of your jib, and probably a couple other sails for that matter. :)
      • bochecha
Leftmost: I'm not sure I understand what you mean
      • CatQuest
yea, it's kinda pita to keep that also up-to-date, in fact my fpcalc is horribyl out of date :D
      • Leftmost
      • CatQuest
but I wouldn'tm ind "themes" for picard, asl long as we can keep a "classic" looking one as well :D
      • bochecha
CatQuest: well, here's how it gets built with flatpak: https://github.com/flathub/org.musicbrainz.Pica...
      • samj1912
        bochecha: cool
      • bochecha
a json file which describes what to build and how, then `flatpak-builder` does its job
      • CatQuest
bochecha: sorry, non-coder here, I need ti a bit more.. uh.. visual , not code-ual
      • bochecha
Leftmost: heh, today I learned something :)
      • CatQuest: flatpak is definitely not a visual thing
      • CatQuest
        jajajajaja
      • bochecha
basically it's a way to build a bundle, and then a way for your users to install that bundle
      • CatQuest
but that means I was ironically right about the ikea reference :D
      • bochecha
with a lot of sugar on top ;)
      • CatQuest: you absolutely were
      • CatQuest
        haha
      • bochecha
basically, a flatpak build of picard could replace the whole « Picard for Linux » section here: https://picard.musicbrainz.org/downloads/
      • CatQuest
Leftmost: thanks for linking that, now I know where that comes fro mand also understand your refrence :D
      • bochecha
including the FAQ entry for Fedora
      • CatQuest
bochecha: like the shape of your jib :D
