it looks like it might be the &artist=nnn that breaks the Attach CD TOC. If I add &artist=123 to your baroque list (I'd have added Gemiani, but it looks like it wants the internal ID, which is not exposed by the UI), I get Cliff Richard albums with the greyed tracklists
reosarevok
CatQuest: Naxos tends to have 73 and 489 barcodes, but I hadn't seen them in the same one yet
CatQuest
bought in norway, likly in 93-94 so
might just be an original german and then given a sticker because "external market has that barcode"
hm.. the other naxos release i have just here has the german barcode too
it would be very useful to know where the file came from. randomly downloaded files are notioriously difficult ot precicely say are so and suh official version
Zastai
tagging actual compilation rips of non-niche music can be annoying, because for a 40-track compilation, scan will often throw up 30+ different matches
CatQuest
(great way to find unexpected covers toh :D)
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
im not saying to ditch compilation all together
cuz that throwing out the baby with the bathwatere
CatQuest
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ: well yea, for you. but not for others.. it's not easy to know everyones prefrences at the same time :D
reosarevok
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ: why would it be the default? It's what you want, but I don't think that's what most people want. I'd expect most people want to tag with the release they got the info from
CatQuest
picard is awesome but ont psycic :D
Zastai
anyway, I'm off - the sofa beckons
CatQuest
bye zastai!
reosarevok
If you only have tracks and not albums, then I guess I could see why you'd do the way you want, for example, but for me that's such a weird way of listening to music :)
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
what im saying, is if there is an official set of metadata straight from the artists mouth, why would picard prioritize some random compilation made by some random user?
CatQuest
i do both actually
becasue that fiel you have might litterally *be* fro mthat compilation
SothoTalker_
now that's a picard problem
reosarevok
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ: the compilations aren't made by some users - they're (almost all) official compilations released officially
CatQuest
and yes, that's a tagger issue, not a database issue
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
*sigh*
reosarevok
In fact, we don't allow home-made compilations
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
could have fooled me
reosarevok
As I said, Picard should be able to do what you want
CatQuest
unless they have enough distribution to be cosidered "bootleg release"
reosarevok
It just won't be made the default, because it's what you want, but not what most of our users seem to want
CatQuest
but those shouldn't be defualt at all
SothoTalker_
i can understand the point of x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
CatQuest
i cna too. i na way
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
its not what i want
reosarevok
We've had people ask about compilation issues before. Have you tried what I mentioned and changed the preferred release slider to reject compilations?
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
its what you guys should be doing according to your goals of accuracy
reosarevok
It should help
CatQuest
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ: now that's a bit bastant
reosarevok
... our goal is data accuracy. The data is there, accurately
CatQuest
indeed
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
what???
reosarevok
That you don't like it doesn't make it inaccurate: compilations are released all the time (and sell a lot of copies!)
CatQuest
and soem are awesome!
reosarevok
Scans look at the music content of your file. It knows what music it is, but can't magically know where you got it from
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ
you mean to tell me, if i made a compilation of songs and change whatever i want, and give that to my friend, my choices override that of the artists?
reosarevok
x3YTjJV6asPhskrZ: no, but if Sony releases a compilation album, that's pretty official
