I am curious to know how many people replied with the same motivation.

Freso: I will put some notes in the comments if anything needs to be added from your catch ups of the meeting summaries, since you posted them already!

yvanzo: Ok, thanks. Do items have to be real 'issues' to appear on there?
yvanzo
I think so, but I did not really use for now.
adhawkins
I have 20 or 30 'tasks' to complete to bring libmb up to synch with the current state of the web service, but it'd be overkill to create an issue for each of these..
reosarevok would say create an issue unless you can't be bothered to. We've had issues for tiny tiny things in MBS
Freso
^
adhawkins
There are currently 34 tasks I've made a note of. Seems overkill to create an issue for each of them? Happy to do it, but seems overkill to me...
Freso
Better make an issue too many than one too few.
adhawkins
Ok, I'll do that then.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
wait, why not just change them from type task to type.. uh whatever it is
is task tickets not issues?
Freso
"Issue" and "ticket" are synonymous. "Issue" is GitHub terminology, "ticket" is Jira terminology.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
right
but are task tickets not real tickets??
Freso
They are.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
hmm
then I don't see the problem with tasks showing up on the thing adhawkins was making :)
:D
(I assumed that with the "task" entity was so quantified they were alreadt tickets :))
adhawkins
To clarify, these are some of the tasks I have written on a piece of paper as I work through them: "Add area-list to collection", "Add label-list to collection", "Add place-list to collection", "Add value-id attribute to work", "Add id attribute to gender on artist"
ZaphodBeeblebrox
oh ho
then deff make tickets in jira
adhawkins
Some of them are relatively small pieces of work (adding an attribute to a particular element for example), but others are actually quite complete (adding area-list to collection also requires me to create an entity for 'area', as well as new entities for anything area contains that might be new, for example).
ZaphodBeeblebrox
jira tickets cna have type "task" so...
(to me, "task" is much more an involved prices s than "new feature", but that's becasue i do instruments)
process, not prices
adhawkins
Ok. Presumably jira tasks / tickets can depend on others? E.g. I can't complete 'add area-list' until I complete 'add area element'...
ZaphodBeeblebrox
oh yes
you cna link thme so
"x depends on y
Freso
adhawkins: Sounds perfect for tickets. :)
ZaphodBeeblebrox
evnw "y blocks z"
adhawkins
Ok. I'll do some investigation then. Thanks for the advice, you learn something new every day :)
Freso
Means you can directly reference the specific tickets in any given commits as well.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
yes
adhawkins
Ok, cheers. Thanks all.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
also you can add the components to the ticket as well
Freso
Not sure if there's a GitHub/Jira link set up for libmb either, but then Jira could also automatically pick up and link to any relevant commits from the tickets.
adhawkins
Freso: How would that be arranged if it's not? libmb is a project under the metabrainz org on github
ruaok
jwf: did you get my response to your independent studies email?
Freso
adhawkins: I can't remember.
adhawkins
Freso: Ah ok. Any way to check if it is in fact set up?
Freso
I don't know. :)
adhawkins
Handy :)
Freso
But probably.
adhawkins
Who's our Jira expert then? I hope it's not you ;)
Freso
I'll try and check later if I remember.
Well, I'm one of them!
adhawkins
Ok. Well, check if you remember and let me know. Then I'll do some reading on how to reference tickets in commits.
Freso
This is just not something that has to do be done in any kind of frequent basis. :)
adhawkins
Freso: Yeah, I'm sure. libmb has been around for a while, so it may well already be in place.
reosarevok
ruaok / Freso: sent you an email for later, but hopefully I'll manage to be around, at least on my phone :)
Freso
reosarevok: 👍
reosarevok
(although if I'm on my phone I might still ask you to copy-paste the review for me :D )
ruaok
how many years of uni are you up to now? 15? :)
reosarevok
shoosh
Only 8 by the time I'm done with this!
(the programming thing didn't count :p )
ruaok
so this program is what, a week long?
reosarevok
Two years, but only a week of in-house classes per semester
ruaok
will you be SMRT when you're done?
reosarevok
Probably not, I was born like this after all :p
ruaok
ah, a terminal condition then.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for ListenBrainz. I got extremely frustrated with Last.FM's api, and even started writing my own replacement, but this is even better than what I could've come up with lol

Kxze: :)
he'd love to get your help to make it better.
Kxze
I'm kind of past my Python days but I'm taking a look at the issue track to see what I can do
ruaok
one thing we could help if, if you're so inclined, is to add LB support to popular players. like VLC.
Kxze
Sounds like a fun project. Is there any support for Android yet?
ruaok
there is one client library. literally nothing else yet.
Kxze
I see. I'm gonna look into making a Node wrapper for the API, just to see how everything works at the moment, then add support to the players I use
iliekcomputers has almost got vlc working with api_compat
ruaok: Hey! I saw the email just now. Sorry for the late response, I was traveling during this last week and got home last night. I'll get back to you later today.
