KEXP situation is finally improving... after major pleading proding poking picking persuading and prayer, many of their editors are improving, still 2 potential issues remain
      • 1. There is still one editor that is problematic, it seems to me they are going to give that person more training and then another shift to see if they can improve
      • Freso
(Only anshuman73 left. If anyone else wants to go, now's the last chance to chime up!)
      • drsaunde
        2. Generally it feels like editing MB is something they are being forced to do instead of want to do, which is IMO the heart of the problems we've had with them
      • ... but as i said getting better, don't think there's any solution for #2
      • and i've already closed more GCI tasks than last year (but that's an indictment on me last year more than anything)
      • almost done my 3rd SXSW...and boy are those a lot of work...each time i say never again..but who am i fooling
      • oh and i think i invented a new word "Brainzsplaining" kind of like mansplaining but for MB and without the condesending attitude
      • Freso
        !m drsaunde
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, drsaunde!
      • Freso
        :p
      • drsaunde
        anshuman73: go!
      • anshuman73
        hey
      • It's super good to be back to the community after quite a while, school made it sort of impossible to manage everything, so I decided to take off for a bit. Considering GCI has been a really nice part of my life, I felt it would be really nice to come back as a mentor and help other students.
      • ruaok
        brainzsplaining. :)
      • naiveai
        !m anshuman73
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, anshuman73!
      • anshuman73
Last week was kinda weird, because it ended up being quite inactive for me GCI-wise, two students abandoned a task without any discussion whatsoever :/
      • naiveai
        more work for me 😆
      • anshuman73
However, that helped, considering I had an academically busy schedule last week, with about 2-3 college applications due and shit load of examinations (which continue next week too)
      • Still, managed to collab with ferbncode to review a PR on CB (& GCI task) that so far looks approvable \0/ once the student gets back to it.
      • fin
      • Freso
naiveai: There'll be plenty for you. Don't worry. :)
      • Alright. No one else has spoken on, so... onwards!
      • Freso: Google Code-in!
      • As evident from the reviews, Google Code-in has fully kicked off.
      • The first day was kind of slow, but then students started flooding into the BookBrainz task, esp. data entry ones.
      • naiveai
        👯‍♂️
      • anshuman73
        all hail BB !
      • Freso
MB data entry tasks are also rather popular.
      • kyan joined the channel
      • Leftmost is so proud.
      • Which created some tension since a couple of mentor are/were mentors on both sides and BB+MB data entry tasks were too much to keep up with.
      • Luckily I managed to convince two senior editors (drsaunde and MajorLurker) to join as mentors as well for the MB tasks, so CatQuest and Leo_Verto can focus more on the BB ones.
      • (And frees me up to properly administrate the org. instead of spending all the time mentoring as well.)
      • naiveai
        Freso: o7
      • drsaunde
although i might have food in my fridge as old as these gci students
      • Freso
I feel like we're in a good place now after the initial student rush and things are going well.
      • iliekcomputers
        drsaunde: XD
      • Freso
A number of students have also found their way to IRC, though it seems only naiveai is a regular so far. :)
      • fin!
      • naiveai
Freso: been trying to help out some others but :P
      • CatQuest
actually i think i may have a jarof rownajam that' older than 13 yeras :o
      • Freso
        naiveai: Yep. Well done. :)
      • anshuman73
drsaunde: well, it's good they aren't as old as the GSoC ones XD
      • Freso
        naiveai: OTHER-77 !
      • naiveai
        ok, think it's me next
      • BrainzBot
OTHER-77: Unify all markup syntax to simple markdown syntax https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/OTHER-77
      • naiveai
Right, so this shouldn't be too long
      • We had a fairly long..... "debate" about it already.
      • Just wanted to see if anyone wants to add anything, clarify, etc.
      • TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz| Google Code-In https://goo.gl/8xSZem | Meeting agenda: OTHER-77 (naiveai), BrainzBot functions (naiveai)
      • Just to check I'm on the same page
      • As I understand it, OTHER-77 is going to be debated for a bit but should not affect current goings-on in the projects as far as code goes.
      • CatQuest
        yes
      • anshuman73
naiveai: you got that right :)
      • naiveai
        ok
      • that's all for that topic
      • Freso
Oh, okay. That was easy. :)
      • naiveai: BrainzBot functions
      • naiveai
ok, this one is a bit more involved.
      • TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz| Google Code-In https://goo.gl/8xSZem | Meeting agenda: BrainzBot functions (naiveai)
      • I wanted to contribute some stuff to BrainzBot
      • Freso
        🙌
      • naiveai
and I know some GCI tasks exist
      • however I wanted to ask you guys what you think you need for BrainzBot
      • some things I was thinking of:
      • iliekcomputers
better syntax for linking github PRs
      • gh:LB#310 is too much typing :(
      • BrainzBot
LB-196: Remove duplication of RabbitMQ connection code: https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-serv...
      • naiveai
        1) something to automate this meeting stuff that Freso is doing right now
      • Leo_Verto
let's just say you may not want to start work on that just yet :P
      • naiveai
        2) a way to store messages for people who aren't online yet
      • iliekcomputers
      • Freso
        2) is already covered by MemoServ
      • CatQuest
        wait really?
      • Freso
        Yes.
      • CatQuest
        what is that?
      • naiveai
        3) a IRC faq for new guys - auto linking
      • CatQuest
        !recall gci
      • BrainzBot
      • yvanzo
        1) +1
      • anshuman73
        1) -1, I like Freso's human touch to an online meeting ;)
      • naiveai
        4) and finally, linking to PRs
      • that's my ideas.
      • Freso
        1) - yep, Leo_Verto and I have been talking about that before, but it kind of fizzled out. He sent me some pseudo code that should still be somewhere.
      • naiveai
Leo_Verto: why shouldn't I do that right now?
      • yvanzo
        4) already exists
      • iliekcomputers
4 already exists, although it could have better syntax imo
      • Leo_Verto
        OTHER-123
      • BrainzBot
OTHER-123: Add meeting management to BrainzBot https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/OTHER-123
      • iliekcomputers
also just linking https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-serv... should work too I guess
      • Is there an issue we can comment on??
      • Freso
For 3), do you mean some kind of message automatically sent to people that the bot hasn't seen before?
      • naiveai
        Freso: yep
      • Freso
        Hm.
      • CatQuest
        hm
      • Leo_Verto
naiveai: I'd suggest you work on the BrainzBot tasks first, but feel free to make tickets for all your ideas :D
      • CatQuest
we get a lot of random people tho
      • it would go off fairly often
      • naiveai
        CatQuest: true.
      • Freso
It would need to check nickserv registered status too, or at least hostname in addition to nick.
      • naiveai
        Freso: shouldn't be too hard
      • yvanzo
      • CatQuest
and i dunno aobut you but, if i start lurking in a chan i get a bit wigged out if a bot suddently talked ot me
      • anshuman73
IMO, 3) is well done by the topic tho
      • Freso
Anyway, they're all reasonable ideas, so for the ones that don't have tickets already feel free to make some! (In project OTHER using "BrainzBot" category.)
      • iliekcomputers
I agree with this being better discussed on tickets.
      • naiveai
Freso: iliekcomputers: K. that's it for this issue then.
      • Freso
        Alright then!
      • anshuman73
huh, topic used to have something about feet up :/
      • Freso
        anshuman73: That's the join message. :)
      • CatQuest
and drink a cup of tea
      • Freso
anshuman73: If you /part and /join the channel, you should get it.
      • Anyway.
      • anshuman73
        Freso: ah
      • Freso
That message could maybe have a link to some IRC welcome page.
      • Anyway anyway.
      • Still 18 minutes to go and we've made it through the entire agenda. 🙌
      • CatQuest
        go us!
      • Freso
Thanks for tonight everyone! Keep rockin'!
      • naiveai
        nice!
      • Freso
        </BANG>
      • Leo_Verto
        !m everyone
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, everyone!
      • naiveai
        :D
      • CatQuest
        \o/
      • iliekcomputers
        thanks Freso
      • drsaunde
i got 'em so its time to smoke 'em
      • naiveai
iliekcomputers: please do mark the LB-196 task as completed
      • BrainzBot
LB-196: Code duplication in rabbitmq connection setup https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/LB-196
      • naiveai
will appreciate it very much :)
      • Freso
naiveai: Can you send me a link to the task instance in a PM?
      • anshuman73
Leo_Verto: reason for not making plugins for bot-bot ? Are you still working on the new plug-in making method ?
      • Leo_Verto
I'm pretty sure I broke brainzbot by renaming the repos (we're doing a total rebranding now) and there's a GCI task to fix that
      • naiveai
        Leo_Verto: nice!
      • Guest99033 has left the channel
      • Leo_Verto
so if you feel like working on that naiveai, there's a bunch of tasks waiting for you :P
      • anshuman73
        Leo_Verto: hmm, alright.
      • anshuman73 will catch up with it soon
      • Joe__ has quit
      • naiveai
        sigh.
      • well, that's life i guess
      • naiveai has left the channel
      • czarnik101 has quit
      • pingupingu
        thanks for the help guys
      • pingupingu has quit
      • naiveai joined the channel
      • MajorLurker joined the channel
      • naiveai
iliekcomputers: fixed integration tests, was a stupid mistake by me.
