I like the idea of using bar charts for depicting higher level information
alastairp
I'm interested in trying to be a bit smarter about the data display too - only show some data when it seems relevant
shivam-kapila
Yeah. The page is loaded with a lot of info
I would also like to settle down on 2-3 varities of font colors, weights etc
There's lot on this page. Lots of blue bold patches then some black italics, some grey headings, a read uuid. Thats too much variety
ruaok
yes, just settled down on lots of shades of orange and all will be well
shivam-kapila
The low level information table also needs some redesign.
But first we need consistency in fonts -- size, color, weight etc etc.
Also I think the positions of metadata and youtube preview must be interchanged in terms of the general actionable UX guidelines for actionable items
Zastai
alastairp: my $0.02: I don't like that the "label" (like ChaChaCha) looks like part of the bar chart
alastairp
Zastai: it's not a final design. it was just a proposal from a year or so back. there's definitely some iteration to do on it
shivam-kapila
alastairp: If you have its design file I would definitely like to play with the design
Zastai
I mean, if you take the current layout and replace the contents of the cell that has "13%" with a bar that a) uses color to indicate the percentage, and b) has the percentage either overlaid or next to it, that would work for me
just giving feedback. not currently a user of AB, so no horse in this race
alastairp
shivam-kapila: hmm, I don't sorry. I think it came from a GCI student. I can't remember who posted it to me. maybe Freso?
Zastai
but I guess it would be nice if the design language was aligned better across Brainz
shivam-kapila
Zastai: You stole my thought
We do need some consistency and some variance across the *Brainz
alastairp
that's true to a certain extent - Mr_Monkey did a great job a number of years ago with our bootstrap layout, which is why AB and LB and CB look mostly the same
there's perhaps not as much consistency on components _in_ the page, but that's a good idea to work on
the issue with MB is that it's so huge, it's a long process to update it. the move to react for rendering the pages is only the first part in this process
shivam-kapila
I like the minimalistic Nav Bar design a lot
> hmm, I don't sorry. I think it came from a GCI student. I can't remember who posted it to me. maybe Freso?
No issues. I can trace that out. I will play with the design over a weekend and get you a mockup.
Zastai
well, MB also has less of a use case for things like charts, where for AB and LB that's a big part of what they do (or plan to do) I think; not sure about CB - that seems more text-oriented
I'm not a fan of making things pretty for the sake of making them pretty.
shivam-kapila
Woops. Just experimenting
Zastai
It looks nice enough, but detracts a bit. And I'm not sure all browsers render it the same, so you'd have to be very sure none of them make the text on the button hard to read

i cna't hlep that i actually cnat afford a newer mac ok?
shivam-kapila
CatQuest: Sorry. Didnt mean to offend you
CatQuest
I was not offended. I was sligly hurt
only slightly
shivam-kapila
Didnt mean to. Sorry
CatQuest
alright :)
I tried upgrading firefox but like 45 has removed fetures i *use* so I don't know what to do about it. chrome is updated (because it updates by itself) but since I have 10.7.5 mac os it will go no longer. since this computer is now having a S.M.A.R.T. problem I will some time get a new one. due to my adhd and asberger. any chance to a tool i utilize constantly is going to have to be slow and controllable. it's just the way I am and I cann
ot help it
i realise i a ma wet sock when I go all "it doesn't work!11" but it's not my fault I have these issues and i'd like to think of it that I help keep accessability on the table (atleast a little bit)
:)
I'm fine with all fancy features looking less fancy in outdated browesers - that is to be expected after all!
but for usability, one should aim to have websites function atleast at the bear minimum usability to as broad as possible user group
also also, updates on programs have gone bezerk the last 5 years. it used t obe you would update a program maybe every year, thne maybe a few tiems a year. now it's weekly, maybe dayly
it's insane
don't get me wrong. security updates im all for, and i lament not getting those. seriosuyl, but whne they thne make it obligatory to remove features that i actually use. thne well i need ot use that feature actually so welp i guess that's it
shivam-kapila
CatQuest: I have a GDoc link too. You might give that a try
let me see. oh that recent listens page looks slick
I actually don't have any negative thing to say about what i'm seeing here tbh
the only thing is being able to : set how many listens I see on each page (make it an option that is saved, not something you have to set every time you visit the page)
and the images of "love/hate/ and the dustbin. it'd be really easy to accidentally click dustbin instead of hate
now that is solvable with having a comfirmation for delete listens but that again will make it annoying to mass delete
shivam-kapila
I am also worried about the dustbin TBH. Thats a valid point.
CatQuest
it's clear what the images mean atleast (another pet peeve of mine is the use of images or icons instead of text links)
shivam-kapila
I wont like love & hate texts lingering there
But the delete can be moved to an options menu
CatQuest
nah. for love/hate those icosn are fine. very clear in their meaning
it could be that you could check them and have one "delete" button at the bottom. that way you could easily delete several but accidentally clciknig the checker is not dangerous
shivam-kapila
Three dots to right. Click that to get options like delete and any other options like edit etc.
CatQuest
(and the bottom you coudl have edit/delete/tc other options)
shivam-kapila
Hm valid point.
Mass selection option
CatQuest
three dots work too, but mass selection yea
I'd deefintily want ot be able to do that
like check all the lsitens tht I know are from *some album* and amss edit these to say they are
or delete duplicate lsitens on a page
for pagination I'd want more than just "previous" "next" buttons. how about "go back 3 weeks, 4 years" etc optinos? it coudl be a bolean search/filter
shivam-kapila
Well thats actually possible now in timescale IMO
CatQuest
also like mb edit history pages. you can see it says [1] [2] [3] ... etc
shivam-kapila
For one page we have 5 day window. If I move to page 4 we can skip 20 days. But will have to see how that goes
CatQuest
iirc you could even originally write a number in the box and it'd take yo udirectly to that page
ooh i liek that idea. i like it a lot!
that'd be perfect for my uses
oh dear it is already 14:33 here . i was going outside before rush hour and peopel at the store
shivam-kapila: we can discuss this later also? (it's really hot in the room with the computer so i can't sit hre much longer)
shivam-kapila
For sure. Whenever you are comfortable
CatQuest
haha to an india 30 ̊C isn't much. but to a poor scandinavian.. :D
