How does it work? You recommend to all your friends (I love this, peeps!) or directly to one person (you'll like this)?
I missed that bit earlier :)
alastairp
I was talking to some MTG people about this system in general. One suggestion from there was "recommending people", rather than recommending tracks. This sounds pretty similar to what ruaok commented about follwing zas' feed
iliekcomputers
all your friends
alastairp
which sounds interesting
initially, "I want to get suggestions from zas" -> later -> "here's someone who listens to similar stuff that you do, you might want to follow them to get suggestions"
ruaok
my idea was to allow posting about anything that has an MBID. users could have MBIds. :)
I think that is a great idea, but for a later version.
alastairp: can you please note that in the planning doc for a future release?
alastairp
yeah, I don't want to get too far ahead, just plant the idea
ruaok is just shutting alastairp down as usual
ruaok: I already started an automatic-recommendation-specific doc. it's there, I'm still cleaning the doc up a bit, but will share thisweek-ish
reosarevok yea he (Mr_Monkey ) can't drop bb, i just finished two relationship overhals he promised to add! :V
ruaok
Mr_Monkey: let us know when you've caught up

All caught up !

k, so discussing BP....
we want the player to become a useful tool for bopping around LB...
Mr_Monkey
I 200% agree on aiming and focusing on music discovery solely over other social communication aspects
ruaok
find a track that you like?
add to queue.
and maybe also keep playlists. like "want to listen to" list.
Mr_Monkey
Yes, play queue will be critical to a good listening experience. That's already at the top of the bucket
ruaok
I know I can encounter tracks that are interesting, but that a outside the scope of what I want to listen to right now.
Mr_Monkey
Yes, I do that "listen to this again later" playlist on Spotify with great success
CatQuest
idk if this is relevant to you guys but. i personally am missing a "friends" feature in lb (and bb and mb at all)
ruaok
I bet you've thought about all this more than either iliekcomputers or myself. maybe make a paper doc similar to what iliekcomputers did and then we chat early next week?
CatQuest: that is our core point.
Mr_Monkey
Sure, I can try and put my thoughts down
CatQuest
right now i use "subscribe" as a sort of make-shift one. (but also subscribe for the originla reason of it soo)
:D
ruaok
great. shall we chat about this on monday?
Mr_Monkey
One feature I really miss from old-days Spotify is the ease of drag-and-dropping a track on one of my friends. Instant recommend
CatQuest
ooh cool idea
ruaok
ohhh, yes, please.
Mr_Monkey
Yeah, we can do Monday. Probably more afternoon time.
ruaok
not sure iliekcomputers will have time then. maybe half hour before the team meeting?
Mr_Monkey
Spotify used to have this frends sidebar that was always open, so that process was always there for me to use.
Sure, that works
iliekcomputers
sounds good to me.
ruaok
great.
iliekcomputers: I think you have enough direction to get moving, yes?
iliekcomputers
yeah.
ruaok
I wonder if we should try and engage chhavi for some UX advice on this.
D4RK-PH0ENiX has quit
CatQuest
chhavi <3
iliekcomputers
i'm gonna write up a doc on the more nitty gritty details today
ruaok
perfect
iliekcomputers
but UX help will definitely be needed
d4rkie has quit
ruaok
I learned a lot from her when we went thought the UX process for another project earlier this year.
so, lets prepare with that.

iliekcomputers: in your doc, you should identify the users you wish to target. who are they?
alastairp
yeah, that's an interesting question
Nyanko-sensei joined the channel
iliekcomputers
hmmm
alastairp
different people have widely different requirements from this kind of thing
ruaok goes back to the notes.
ruaok
WHY, WHO and HOW are the three key questions we need to answer.
alastairp
ruaok: iliekcomputers: do you mind if I share one or more of these documents with others from MTG for feedback? I'm not sure if we want to get too many "oh, you could do this, and this, and this" ideas yet, but feedback on overarching goals could be interesting
iliekcomputers
i gauged interest from the discourse post. there are actual users on LB who'd be happy with these features.
alastairp: sure
alastairp
there are users who _said_ that they'd be happy with that :)
ruaok
WHY would someone come to LB.
alastairp
big difference :)
ruaok
WHO are the users who are going to come?
HOW are the users who do come going to accomplish what they came to do?
once I was able to answer these questions, the UX became much simpler.
iliekcomputers
alastairp: true
ruaok
alastairp: fine by me.
iliekcomputers: this seems like a BS exercise right now, but it was really instrumental to my other project.
iliekcomputers
having good answers to these seems important, i could come up with answers, not sure if they'd be very good.
let me take a stab at it
ruaok
perfect. just thinking about it helps a lot.
iliekcomputers
what's the goal of this exercise? sanity checking what we're building or figuring out the UX?
Mr_Monkey
Both? Once the direction has been established, the path become clear.
iliekcomputers

I am not sure I should pop in. But I like UI/UX work really
