@ruaok: Hello Robert, this is Michael Zinman from Digital West. I was wondering if you had a moment to answer a quick question about your ticket, T20160113.0017, in regards to rebuilding the RAID array on baron?
      • darwin
MZinman : welcome, though ruaok may not be immediately available :)
      • MZinman
Ahh, no problem. I see that baron has a degraded RAID array that will need to be rebuilt prior to installing the newer Ubuntu dist. I was going to rebuild it before attemting to install the new OS, but just need to ensure that everything has been properly backed up and secured from the existing array first.
      • Basically, I just wanted to check for the "all-clear" before rebuilding the array :)
      • alastairp
it’s 9am in barcelona, which isn’t a very nice time to be awake ;)
      • I sent him another message via hangouts, in case he doesn’t get irc notifications
      • MZinman
Oh, I see. I appologize, I didn't mean to wake him. I'll IM the technician who worked on this today here also and see if he has already performed this. I didn't see in the ticket notes that this has been done yet.
      • darwin
I'm sure he appreciates your active handling of the ticket, whether asleep or awake. :)
      • zas
MZinman: i could lead you if needed, ruaok is sleeping atm, i'm sysadmin too. What do you need to know to proceed with baron ?
      • opatel99 has quit
      • Anything on baron can be safely erased.
      • MZinman
Hello zas, the notes on the ticket indicate that the RAID array needs to be rebuilt. I was going to do this before installing new distro of Ubuntu, but wanted to confirm that everything has been backed up from this array that you may need.
      • Perfect!
      • zas
Yes, there's nothing to backup. The installed system was 14.10 and we want to go back to 14.04 LTS on this (yet unused) server.
      • MZinman
Also, our tech indicated that one disc had gone bad and was going to be replaced. Robert advised he wanted RAID 1,0, but I didn't want to rebuild to a bad disc, would good-old RAID 1 be ok for now?
      • Nyanko-sensei joined the channel
      • zas
A disc was going bad ? i'm not aware of this issue. But all our servers are using RAID 1 anyway.
      • D4RK-PH0ENiX has quit
      • MZinman
Huh, I see this now. This is from our tech earlier: "You will need to install to the degraded array. Robert is going to order a new drive." I'll rebuilt as RAID 1, should catch any problems during the rebuild process if there is a bad disc
      • If there is, I'll notify Robert of the drive ID and we can go from there
      • zas
Yes. I think the bad drive was the reason for baron to be initially take out. But i thought this issue was fixed, since baron came back in the mean time. The reason of the re-install is due to the wrong version of the distribution.
      • Ok, no problem.
      • It is meant to be used as a secondary server, we need to have the same dist on it than on the primary server.
      • MZinman
Sounds good! Sometimes, on night shift, it's good to get all the p's and q's in order before starting the work ;) Thank you for your help zas!
      • zas

        any picard devs around?
      • how does picard deal with AC/DC since picard uses that as a seperator in id3v2 2.3 files?
      • zas
zag2: it has an option to change separator if needed (check Options > Tags)
      • That said, just do a test after enabling debug log, i can't tell you much on this specific question.
      • zag2
sure but most of our users will just use the defaults from picard
      • zas
If i remind correctly, the ID3v2 2.3 spec has no way to escape slash ... so it is not really a Picard issue.
      • i think it is one reason for 2.4 to exist, using / as separator without mean to escape is just plain stupid.
      • You may perhaps use a script to replace / in artist name before tagging though.
      • zag2
yeh we are thinking of just adding spaces before and after the slash /

It is possible that I am blind, but where is a release's release date stored in the database? The release table doesn't have a date in it. There's a release alias table which has dates in it, but I'm not sure what a release alias is
      • (also, there isn't enough data in the release alias table for there to be one per release :))
      • is it the date in release_country?
      • reosarevok
aquarius: yes. Or release_unknown_country, when there's no country
      • (not sure why we have two tables for that...)
      • MZinman has quit
      • aquarius
cool; checking that out now. Thank you!
      • reosarevok
alias are alternative names (dates there are for "this release was called X from this time to this time and then renamed")
      • aquarius
aha, cool; I don't need that, then :)
      • reosarevok
(dunno how often they'll get used there - they get much more use for artist names for example :) )
