I've been doing a little bit this week, improving the -data-js package, adding some more tests and working out how to do the revisions on the front page now that we don't use polymorphism

This is our first post-GCI meeting, isn't it?
2016-02-01 03219, 2016

It's quite tricky, but now I'm geting a list of each type of entity sorted by revision time, then combining those

2016-02-01 03223, 2016
Leo_Verto
Well, I'd like to applaud both your plan of using GCI to get someone to write tons of tests and stanislas for doing exactly that :P
2016-02-01 03234, 2016
LordSputnik
stanislas: any news on the python-bb plan? :)
2016-02-01 03237, 2016
stanislas
I've decided to merge Entity and EntityData and use a simplified model in pybb.
2016-02-01 03248, 2016
LordSputnik
stanislas: that's a good idea :)
2016-02-01 03255, 2016
stanislas
Not because I don't know what is the difference
2016-02-01 03258, 2016
LordSputnik
Especially since the WS won't tell them apart
2016-02-01 03228, 2016
Leo_Verto
Merging them is also probably the more pythonic approach
2016-02-01 03251, 2016
LordSputnik
So, I'm expecting we'll have a February release
2016-02-01 03218, 2016
LordSputnik
At this point I'm not sure whether direct-database will be ready or not, but there isn't a *huge* amount of work to be done
2016-02-01 03248, 2016
Leftmost
LordSputnik, what remains to be done before -data-js is production-ready? (Though I understand there'd still be work to do in -site.)
2016-02-01 03249, 2016
stanislas
And I was thinking also of adding the next level of inheritance in bookbrainz-ws :)
2016-02-01 03203, 2016
stanislas
It would make it clearer
2016-02-01 03206, 2016
LordSputnik
When we release this, the current webservice will go down, and will stay down until we've written a node replacement, so we'll have to start working on that ASAP
2016-02-01 03221, 2016
LordSputnik
stanislas: what do you mean?
2016-02-01 03214, 2016
LordSputnik
Leftmost: Well, mainly tests for models, I think. I've got a few models I haven't committed because I wanted to have tests to go with them
2016-02-01 03206, 2016
Leftmost
Are there any pieces missing from the SQL definitions right now or is that all in place?
2016-02-01 03207, 2016
stanislas
a) adding a class that would keep mutual parts of put/post checking and generating
2016-02-01 03241, 2016
stanislas
b) moving entity stuff checking to EntityTesting class
2016-02-01 03250, 2016
LordSputnik
Leftmost: no that seems to be holding up quite well
2016-02-01 03200, 2016
Leftmost
Cool.
2016-02-01 03222, 2016
stanislas
But I don't have any intentions of actually doing that, maybe when it will be ported.
2016-02-01 03226, 2016
LordSputnik
stanislas: Hmm, I wouldn't bother doing any major architectural improvements to the WS testing right now, when the python-ws is about to become obsolete
2016-02-01 03245, 2016
LordSputnik
stanislas: yeah, as you say, after it's ported
2016-02-01 03219, 2016

If we can get direct-database merged into master this month, I'd be a very happy Leftmost.
2016-02-01 03221, 2016

I'm very much looking forward to python-bb, might even contribute a bit if I find the time for that
Erm, actually, I'm going to have to leave now, something's come up (nothing bad!)
2016-02-01 03203, 2016
LordSputnik
Leftmost: take over! :P
2016-02-01 03206, 2016
Leo_Verto
Hmm, you could use task lists for that so you can check off finished items :D
2016-02-01 03219, 2016
Leftmost
I see two major threads of development for once direct-database is merged: WS and UX. I think we need to work on those in parallel and it would be good to spend some time picking those apart to see what needs done.

2016-02-01 03204, 2016
Leo_Verto
stanislas, want to mention your client idea during the meeting, just for the record?
2016-02-01 03205, 2016
stanislas
Yeah, that's gonna wait after pybb is done.
2016-02-01 03237, 2016
Leftmost
pybb depends on the WS, so we can fold that into WS discussion.
2016-02-01 03253, 2016
stanislas
Leo_Verto: What do you mean exactly ?
2016-02-01 03220, 2016
Leftmost
Checking Jira to see what we have open and if there are any smaller issues we can address for the Feb release.
2016-02-01 03203, 2016
Leftmost
I think the best thing to do would be to have a small release for mid-February and use the remainder of the month to finish up and test the heck out of the SQL revamp.
2016-02-01 03220, 2016
