Anyway, it's an interesting idea. You'd need to persuade a potential mentor, and you'd need to persuade ruaok to devote resources.

sheeree, the biggest problem I see with it is defining scope. We already struggle with that at BB and MB, and "art" is an incredibly subjective term for a lot of people.

darwin: [off] er, that email sounds more like *wikimedia* drama (i.e. how the foundation dedicates its resources to further attracting and retaining people to work on wikipedia, primarily) rather than *mediawiki* drama (presumably, something related to the MediaWiki software, or updates to it, or resources dedicated to maintaining or changing it).

If there are three artists in a session, should all three be in the release artist(s) field, or should it be Various?
What's the credit on the release itself? Generally that looks fine to me

The European Library seems like the best choice. Their data is not licensed at all and it has 95 million books
sheeree: Hello. I think a database combining both the data and reviews of what the data is describing is not something that would be welcomed much. ArtBrainz coupled with CritiqueBrainz to have the art critiques on CB could work though. I'm mostly concerned that it's too large of a project for one GSoC. BookBrainz has ~2 developers and is still in its early stages 2+ years on.

sheeree: Also, if you were eligible to participate in GCI (even if you chose not to), you're unlikely to be eligible for GSoC. I guess it is theoretically possible, but it's a very narrow window you'll have to fit into.
