one sec, we're fighting with paperwork
      • bitmap
rahulr: it should still save cover art if none already exists, though, right? then it should always be downloaded, because files can be matched to an album after it's loaded
      • ruaok hands alastairp a flamethrower
      • alastairp
        I wish
      • ruaok: are you able to come to our barrio?
      • we can find a bar close by so we can all get there easily
      • ruaok
        our? all?
      • what am I signing up for?
      • SF barrio?

Guys, I've got a question… hopefully a really simple one! I've just noticed that our server is throwing "Can't connect to 127.0.0.1:9009 Connection refused" when accessing /ws/2
      • bitmap
hmm, 9009 is the port used by our new template renderer, so that sounds like it isn't running
      • UmkaDK
I guess the most likely reason is that /root/server.js isn't working properly
      • do you know what's rendered by that server? How critical is it to the normal slave operations?
      • bitmap
right now it's just used to render our 404 page, but we're planning to render all templates with it
      • it should started automatically if RENDERER_HOST isn't configured, otherwise it can be started with ./script/start_renderer.pl
      • UmkaDK
ok, so I've got until my next server upgrade to fix this! :)
      • bitmap
I suppose we should look into whether it should be throwing that if you're just accessing /ws/2
      • UmkaDK
Awesome, thank you so much bitmap!
      • bitmap
oh, that error can happen with /ws/2 if the request 404s in certain cases
      • UmkaDK
        Yep, found it: /ws/2/artists :)
      • bitmap
got any example of a /ws/2 request that returns "Can't connect to 127.0.0.1:9009"?
      • heh :)
      • well, we should be returning an XML response there in any case, not HTML, so still a bug on our side
      • UmkaDK
Well at the moment, just accessing /ws/2 returns Connection refused
      • It doesn't even return html, it's just plain text! :D
      • bitmap
yeah, any path not defined in the API will error like that
      • UmkaDK
It dies in LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 47
      • bitmap
it'd return HTML if the renderer was running :)
      • UmkaDK
        :D
      • gcilou
omg windows 10 is so weird..
      • reosarevok
        At least it's not Windows 8 :p
      • gcilou
I upgraded from 7 so this is a big jump
      • reosarevok
        Oh, ok, then yeah
      • You skipped the worst part still though ;)
      • gcilou
haha good. I only use my PC for school stuff occasionally though..just when I need to use a cd..
      • Mineo
wait til it tries to install candy crush saga all the time ;)
      • gcilou
lol I saw it pop up earlier lol
      • reosarevok
bitmap: IIRC http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/MBS-8825 was because you told me to? :) Or did I misunderstand?
      • LordSputnik
navap: I won't contact them any more until you're done with them
      • bitmap
oh...I think I said cursor: default but meant pointer
      • sorry :P
      • reosarevok
        heh
      • ruaok: name change request - I don't have the privs
      • ruaok
        thanks biff.
      • reosarevok
        :p
      • Do you read all the mails anyway? I try to mention the ones that are relevant so you don't need to read the whole thing, but I can stop if you want
      • ruaok
        I do read them.
      • someone has to keep tabs on reotab
      • reosarevok
dammit bitmap, I was doing it :p
      • Ok then
      • Less work for me :p
      • Leo_Verto
        gcilou, DOOOOM!
      • gcilou
        why?
      • Leo_Verto ^
      • reosarevok
Maybe he wants you to install the game :p
      • gcilou
oh lol. I know it's soo addicting. Just don't want it on my laptop :)
      • Leo_Verto
        Windows 10 is evil
      • reosarevok
Leo_Verto: isn't it basically ok as long as you deactivate all the "oh yeah disregard my privacy" bits?
      • Leo_Verto
nah, still keeps making requests to MS servers
      • even the server version does
      • and as a power user, metro feels horrible for mouse and keyboard and they basically removed features to move stuff from system control to that sidebar
      • gcilou
hm well good thing I use my Air most of the time :)
      • Leo_Verto
Have you tried our Lord and savior, Linux? :P
      • gcilou
        lol no
      • reosarevok
It even has Sunless Sea now! :p
      • Leo_Verto
developing anything that's not .NET on windows is atrocious, never tried OSX but I'm really happy with my customized KDE on Arch
      • Also I see you joined SLUG, reosarevok :P
      • ariscop has quit
      • reosarevok
        Heh
      • It's kinda funny in my school actually
      • Everyone has some Windows lappy or other
      • So whenever we need to get something running everyone keeps hitting different problems
      • For me it tends to be "oh, I ran apt-get and it worked" :p
      • Leo_Verto
        Heh
      • Always issues with connecting to a RADIUS wlan
      • and every win version requires a different fix, even 8 and 8.1
      • diana_olhovyk_ has quit
      • Freso
I don't really get people who say that Windows "just work". I mean, have they actually used Windows?
      • reosarevok
It does for some things I guess?
      • A few
      • Not many
      • To be fair, I still need to run service network-manager restart on reboot for my wifi to work
      • So I'm not going to claim my install "just works" either :D
      • Leo_Verto
I think it depends on the attitude
      • Windows "works" mostly because of good driver support
      • Mineo has quit
      • And if you don't care about customization, aren't a dev and just want to browse facebook, it probably works for you
      • If you however try to customize it or develop stuff, you're going to run into a wall
      • gcilou, generally I'd recommend setting up a linux system (even if it's just in a VM), I felt I learned a lot from that
      • and I haven't even touched Linux From Scratch
      • might take two or three tries until you understand everything well enough to fix stuff you break trying to do other stuff, but you can get a system that is tailored to your needs and workflow and looks good
      • and wow, I do like monologues :P
      • reosarevok
I mean, I learnt not to fear the terminal back when I had a macbook
      • OSX isn't that bad
      • For that
      • Leo_Verto
I guess, it seems to be pretty popular with developers
      • It "just works" in that sense which might be better for work
      • but I love tinkering
      • ariscop joined the channel
      • gcilou
Leo_Verto, sounds interesting ! Sorry I was in a meeting with some dudes who I'm going to be on a programming team with for a competition :)
      • Leo_Verto
        programming or robotics?
      • gcilou
        programming
      • Freso
        How does that even work?
      • reosarevok
Heh, that momment when I'm thinking "oh, I so agree with that ticket Gentlecat just commented on" without noticing it's my own ticket :D
      • At least I'm consistent.
      • Gentlecat
        lol
      • Freso
It'd be more amusing if you'd been like "that's the most daft thing anyone has ever asked! ... oh."
      • reosarevok
I'm sure I'd think that of some old tickets of mine :p
      • Freso: we had a team competition on programming in our school
      • gcilou
Freso, just a bunch of teams of two or three people sitting in a big room with computers working on problem sets trying to get the most done in a certain amount of time :) lol
      • reosarevok
I ended up doing everything because nobody else had a clue, but
      • It was supposed to be "every member on the team works on a different piece of the site / software"
      • (honestly, I got picked as top 3 student in my class and I don't even speak the language fluently, that's how bad it is :p)
      • Leo_Verto
I once got top grade for a game we didn't even hand it
      • gcilou
these are the types of problems we are going to be doing http://hspc.csce.uark.edu/wp-content/uploads/20...
      • Leo_Verto
A friend of mine made the client, I did the server and handled project administration and the third guy had no idea how to Java and just made some art
      • gcilou
^ that type of thing sounds interesting
      • Leo_Verto
ended up being a fun little game with a unique art style
      • lan multiplayer was a bit problematic due to desyncs though
      • reosarevok
        Heh, that sounds kinda fun
      • (to both of you)
      • Leo_Verto
We had a lot of fun, did a lot of unrelated stuff and learned how to use Git
      • gcilou
well this is my first "live in-person" comp. so it should be interesting at least :)
      • reosarevok
For ours, we had to make this basic website and ordering system for the school restaurant, and then present it
      • It was a few hours and the site was a mess, of course :p
      • Freso
All of those seem like interesting exercises, but I guess my aversion towards competitions just makes the whole thing seem icky to me. :)
      • reosarevok
The presentations were apparently worse than the sites though :D
      • We got an extra class on presentations the week after because they were all so bad :p
      • Leo_Verto
Freso, wasn't a competition in my case, just IT class
      • gcilou
Yeah, I think that the time constraints are going to kill me :\
      • reosarevok
Freso: generally agreed, yes. (good) Students in this country are all crazy about competitions, and they even get scholarships and stuff for them
      • Freso
Leo_Verto: Yeah, I was referring specifically to the PDF gcilou linked.
      • Leo_Verto
I find team programming is a great thing to learn, but you really need team partners willing to work
      • reosarevok got offered a few of those in school back in Spain and his answer was always like "eh, no, I'd rather not do competitive stuff"
      • reosarevok
Competitive learning is a bit weird for me :p
      • But still, as long as you do it for fun, and have fun, who cares about the prize
      • gcilou
yeah today was my first time meeting these guys, so we'll see what they're made up of ;)
      • (we'll meaning I...)
      • reosarevok
My issue is when people go all competitive like WE NEED TO WIN THIS and it's like "dude just chill and learn stuff" :p
      • Freso
        ^
      • Leo_Verto
A lot of funding and competitions for sciences here, never heard of anything promoting IT in schools
      • Gentlecat went to china once for a programming competition
      • Freso
But you also lived pretty much on the border to China. :p
