what should our 'ideal list' of uses be? I felt this was limiting our use cases (therefore not a great message)
      • mayhem
well, first and foremost we're a database an encyclopedia of music information.
      • Quesito
        yes
      • mayhem
that is our mail goal. then there are uses of our database.
      • 1) tagging music collections is totally valid, but not our main purpose
      • Quesito
we really need to get that message more into the wild.
      • mayhem
        2) synchronizing the music (tech) industry via MBIDs and helping fix their endemic data problems.
      • 3) data for building new music tools and websites.
      • 4) Search for music things, such as google search and wolfram alpha.
      • just a few off the top of my head.
      • alastairp
        n) something something listenbrainz
      • perhaps ties into 2
      • mayhem
we should go through each of our supporters and categorize them.
      • LB == 2 & 3
      • and LB and AB are on the the same utility level.
      • Quesito
I agree mayhem--we basically need a brand architecture--which will help Rassami too. the more info we can provide the better, no?
      • antlarr
      • mayhem
        brand architecture?
      • you must be married to a architecture geek. :)
      • Quesito
        yes--it's a doc that summarizes
      • LOL--this has nothing to technically do with architecture ;)
      • antlarr
samj1912: You'll see the last commit adds some debug to CoverArtBox, I added it just so that you know what I planned to do next. Inside CoverArtBox.set_metadata, I'm getting two images in metadata.images if an album has files with different covers, so I was planning to combine them and show all images that would be replaced with the new one
      • Quesito
I used to help with them when I was in advertising--they are house structured--but basically a doc--that shows the relationships of the products and clients--this creates an easier way to talk about messaging
      • samj1912
        antlarr: combine them how?
      • antlarr
I was thinking on a stack of images with corners from the bottom images being visible
      • reosarevok knows we're moving somewhere when he's not getting half the words in a conversation and it's not about code
      • samj1912
        hmmm interesting
      • mayhem
gah, lots of people arriving for MWC. I could've quadruple booked my guestroom already.
      • antlarr
samj1912: something similar to this, but nicer :) http://www.vanseodesign.com/blog/wp-content/upl...
      • mayhem
Quesito: got it. sounds like we could benefit from clarifying this. fortunately each product has a clear goal and the goals do not overlap between projects. which ought to make a BA pretty straighforward.
      • samj1912
antlarr: I like your style better
      • Quesito
yes--or we do one for each product--which might be beneficial for our future.
      • samj1912
and since we are on this, I think we can add a few more things
      • antlarr
        samj1912: :D
      • Quesito
mayhem: forgot about MWC! first time I'm not participating....
      • samj1912
I will revert my last commit from 258 and you can make a PR :D
      • mayhem
that might be overkill. but I think once we start on the greater one, we may realize we need more detail.
      • antlarr
a popup with "Use Original Value" for cover art is also on my todo list :)
      • samj1912
antlarr: just a couple of changes
      • antlarr
        sure, just tell me
      • mayhem
MWC is useful for people coming to my town as opposed to the other way round.
      • Quesito
mayhem Ill start on the larger one--we can go from there
      • antlarr
I've been learning about picard's internals while doing this
      • samj1912
ill add it on github :)
      • mayhem
        sounds like a great idea.
      • antlarr
        sure :)
      • Quesito
MWC fills my barrio with penguins....
      • zag
samj1912 Just for info, TheAudioDB.com allows track covers
      • would be nice to add it as a source for picard one day
      • mayhem
linux penguins? or is this a euphemism?
      • zag
I tried to write a python plugin, but was out of my depth
      • alastairp
I've been to some good parties at MWC
      • zag
        virtually same api as fanart.tv
      • alastairp
I should check up what to crash this year
      • samj1912
zag: actually we are moving away from adding more stuff to the source code now :D
      • Quesito
penguins--male business men in suits, wobbling through the street in packs all on their cellular devices with an air of importance.
      • zag
        more plugins?
      • samj1912
v2.0 is going to be hopefully completely modular with a lot of customizations implemented as plguins
      • yes
      • not all users need all the stuff
      • mayhem
        Quesito: lol.
      • Quesito
alastairp: the developer party is usually pretty great--have you been?
      • samj1912
but we dont want to alienate the people who have become comfortable with the current picard
      • alastairp
not sure specifically what it was that I went to
      • zag
yep plugins always nicer and componotized
      • just make it nice and easy to write the plugins ;)
      • samj1912
        yes
      • alastairp
there was a pretty good one at fabrica moritz a few years ago
      • samj1912
        we plan to :D
      • and more plugin end points too :)
      • Quesito
      • samj1912
along with a revamped plugin installation interface to allow X-platform compatibility :)
      • alastairp
        Quesito: thanks
      • samj1912
antlarr: just update the coverartimage class __eq__ method
      • will do a proper review on the PR
      • let 258 be merged
      • then we can continue with your PR :)
      • antlarr
        perfect :)
      • zas
        samj1912: 258 can be merged then ?
      • samj1912
zas I have a few changes to make
      • zas
ok, tell me when done so i can review
      • samj1912
        okay :)

zas: I'm pretty sure indexer is not running since we removed triggers
      • CatQuest
people in that are all talking about "picard trunchating files" is this a bug we know about/have fixed?
      • mayhem
Gentlecat: did node stuff used to run on the office RPi? it doesn't anymore :(
      • yokel has quit
      • Gentlecat
        for building static files, yes
      • mayhem
k, I'll try and transfer things off it and get a new SD card running.
      • Gentlecat
I'm going through yesterdays messages, give me a minute
      • mayhem
        no stress.
      • Gentlecat
zas: logs are also empty since 3 days ago. so it's probably something else
      • mayhem
huh, that is really odd then.
      • piwik, we need you now!
      • zas
        Weird

      • samj1912
CatQuest: yes, read that bug in the comment, I think it might be an old bug, although there is some weird issue with flac files and large image tags
      • so it might or might not have been fixed
      • it might also happen if picard was closed while saving
      • earlier it used to immediately close all threads, now it waits for them to finish
      • mayhem
(not urgent) Gentlecat: I would like to add another tab in the admin view that shows filtered data from the "users" table in the paginated display, similar to the payments view. can you please point me to an example of how I might add filter conditions to query of the view?
      • In the same vein, being able to add an an order by clause for the payments view would also be good, so I can fix the payment view.
      • Gentlecat
payments view is generated from schema
      • mayhem nods at Gentlecat
      • mayhem
can it be modified or does a more complex need to be constructed?
      • +view
      • Gentlecat
        it's not very flexible, no
      • mayhem
        boo.
      • Gentlecat
might be easier to write your own view
      • mayhem
can an admin view be generated from a query?

      • :(

zas I have addressed all of Mineo's comments on 258 now :), please review
      • mayhem
Gentlecat: it is. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it.
      • something is up.
      • Gentlecat
did you install the right one?
      • mayhem
        6.9.5-1nodesource1~jessie1
      • there was one that was in package limbo.
      • Gentlecat
        I mean the architecture
      • (ARM, not x86/x64)
      • mayhem
I just installed it via apt get.

I'm going to clone the SD card in a bit and see if I can copy it to a new card, purge node and reinstall it.

zag: Well, one comment is that AcoustID is not a MetaBrainz/MusicBrainz product. And while we use AcoustID in MusicBrainz and AcoustID relies on/utilises MusicBrainz IDs, neither of the two are tied to each other. MusicBraiz could easily switch to using another (or additional) fingerprinting services; AcoustID could choose to drop its MBID reliance and make
      • its own or use another provider's.
