I mean, in Latinamerica people dont really use sites that much if they dont fully get them
2017-04-04 09403, 2017
LeRoberte
That's a problem for me sometimes
2017-04-04 09414, 2017
ruaok
spain is very similar that way.
2017-04-04 09400, 2017
LeRoberte
Really?
2017-04-04 09410, 2017
LeRoberte
It must be the language (?)
2017-04-04 09413, 2017
ruaok
yes, but I am not sure.
2017-04-04 09447, 2017
LeRoberte
But maybe I could prepare for you some already edited data for you to use
2017-04-04 09432, 2017
LeRoberte
I mean, like just giving you the lat long and name of the venues, or something like that, and you can fill the rest by your standars
2017-04-04 09448, 2017
LeRoberte
Would that help?
2017-04-04 09457, 2017
ruaok
yes, I think it would.
2017-04-04 09403, 2017

ruaok: pong
2017-04-04 09433, 2017
ruaok
you following this conversation?
2017-04-04 09442, 2017
reosarevok
Not really, I'm in class
2017-04-04 09446, 2017
reosarevok reads backlog
2017-04-04 09401, 2017
LeRoberte
Cool, because that's my biggest achievement here
2017-04-04 09459, 2017
LeRoberte
And Im not finding so many venues in your data base
2017-04-04 09419, 2017
reosarevok
Some places are old because we also store historical places - for example, if something was recorded in a studio or venue that is now closed, we still want to be able to store that
2017-04-04 09451, 2017
reosarevok
And I'm sure a lot of them are missing, because I don't think we have many Argentinean editors in the first place and places are a bit obscure even then :)
2017-04-04 09412, 2017
LeRoberte
Yeah, here there is a big mess
2017-04-04 09435, 2017
LeRoberte
I mean, there are a lot of places, but its hard to find the info
The most complete info the better, if you're going to send data: Name, address, including city and postcode and all that if you have it, coordinates, what type of place it is (is it a venue? a studio? a football stadium? a church?), official website of the place if you have it... all that helps :)
2017-04-04 09417, 2017
LeRoberte
Besides, theres a political thing against venues
2017-04-04 09426, 2017
ruaok
london is better, but still not good.
2017-04-04 09437, 2017
ruaok
we need to find a way to motivate people to enter venues
2017-04-04 09454, 2017
reosarevok
Well, events, really
2017-04-04 09458, 2017
reosarevok
Venues will come with those :)
2017-04-04 09407, 2017
ruaok nods
2017-04-04 09411, 2017
LeRoberte
Well, the thing is that venues here are a big deal for musicians
2017-04-04 09421, 2017
ruaok
AEG Presents and Ticketmaster have said they are ok giving us data.
in case you wonder where reosarevok lives, LeRoberte....
2017-04-04 09431, 2017
reosarevok
:D
2017-04-04 09446, 2017
LeRoberte
Im working on having them more filled
2017-04-04 09450, 2017
LeRoberte
In estonia?
2017-04-04 09457, 2017
LeRoberte
I LOVE ESTONIA

ruaok: any idea how their data is? Event data *might* be easier to auto-import in that at least "Artist at Place on Date" is relatively easy to add (and if we have a bunch of events for the same artist, it can auto-set the artist rel)
2017-04-04 09445, 2017
ruaok
no clue. until I see it, I won't trust it.
2017-04-04 09452, 2017
ruaok
we'll need... geordi.
2017-04-04 09454, 2017
ruaok cries
2017-04-04 09458, 2017
reosarevok
The venue rels wouldn't be anywhere as straightforward, but I'd rather have a lot of event data with venue names on the title where the venue rels can be added later than no data at all
2017-04-04 09433, 2017
LeRoberte
Yes, i can send you the database by mail, no problem
2017-04-04 09435, 2017
LeRoberte
Venues are just a litle part of the site, though, but someone told me to do one thing at a time and i followed, heheh
2017-04-04 09459, 2017
ruaok
I think we might get along well, LeRoberte. :)
2017-04-04 09418, 2017
LeRoberte
:D
2017-04-04 09459, 2017
LeRoberte
Maybe I can provide this data for you of the venues, but the events data its a litle more complex
2017-04-04 09408, 2017
Freso
ruaok: I've seen other people ask this too, so... couldn't MessyBrainz sort of act as a "Geordi"?
2017-04-04 09426, 2017
ruaok
not quite.
2017-04-04 09438, 2017
LeRoberte
a what?
2017-04-04 09440, 2017
ruaok
holding bin vs paper tail.
2017-04-04 09425, 2017
ruaok
LeRoberte: a holding bin for incoming data for MB. one where people can search for data and import is selectively.
2017-04-04 09407, 2017
LeRoberte
not getting the idea
2017-04-04 09407, 2017
samj1912 is interested in geordi and messybrainz
2017-04-04 09419, 2017
ruaok
reosarevok: if any of the proposals that paul J is putting on the table pan out, I'm going to lock myself away for a week and write Phoenix, a new geordi. and build it the way *I* want it. :)
2017-04-04 09436, 2017
reosarevok is a bit afraid :p
2017-04-04 09439, 2017
ruaok has to get moving. back online when I get to the office.
2017-04-04 09441, 2017
ruaok
reosarevok: be!
2017-04-04 09454, 2017
samj1912
I think I brought geordi up once, but I have no idea who is incharge of dev for either :p
2017-04-04 09414, 2017
ruaok
geordi is dead. long live geordi.
2017-04-04 09423, 2017
samj1912
lol :P
2017-04-04 09456, 2017
LeRoberte
ruaok: can you give me your mail so i can send you the database of venues?
