I am curious to know how many people replied with the same motivation.

Freso: I will put some notes in the comments if anything needs to be added from your catch ups of the meeting summaries, since you posted them already!

yvanzo: Ok, thanks. Do items have to be real 'issues' to appear on there?
2017-09-04 24728, 2017
yvanzo
I think so, but I did not really use for now.

I have 20 or 30 'tasks' to complete to bring libmb up to synch with the current state of the web service, but it'd be overkill to create an issue for each of these..
2017-09-04 24700, 2017
reosarevok would say create an issue unless you can't be bothered to. We've had issues for tiny tiny things in MBS

There are currently 34 tasks I've made a note of. Seems overkill to create an issue for each of them? Happy to do it, but seems overkill to me...
2017-09-04 24750, 2017
Freso
Better make an issue too many than one too few.
2017-09-04 24757, 2017
adhawkins
Ok, I'll do that then.
2017-09-04 24734, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
wait, why not just change them from type task to type.. uh whatever it is
2017-09-04 24748, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
is task tickets not issues?
2017-09-04 24739, 2017
Freso
"Issue" and "ticket" are synonymous. "Issue" is GitHub terminology, "ticket" is Jira terminology.
2017-09-04 24747, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
right
2017-09-04 24700, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
but are task tickets not real tickets??
2017-09-04 24705, 2017
Freso
They are.
2017-09-04 24708, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
hmm
2017-09-04 24741, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
then I don't see the problem with tasks showing up on the thing adhawkins was making :)
2017-09-04 24747, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
:D
2017-09-04 24744, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
(I assumed that with the "task" entity was so quantified they were alreadt tickets :))
2017-09-04 24748, 2017
adhawkins
To clarify, these are some of the tasks I have written on a piece of paper as I work through them: "Add area-list to collection", "Add label-list to collection", "Add place-list to collection", "Add value-id attribute to work", "Add id attribute to gender on artist"
2017-09-04 24702, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
oh ho
2017-09-04 24706, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
then deff make tickets in jira
2017-09-04 24734, 2017
adhawkins
Some of them are relatively small pieces of work (adding an attribute to a particular element for example), but others are actually quite complete (adding area-list to collection also requires me to create an entity for 'area', as well as new entities for anything area contains that might be new, for example).
2017-09-04 24716, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
jira tickets cna have type "task" so...
2017-09-04 24740, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
(to me, "task" is much more an involved prices s than "new feature", but that's becasue i do instruments)
2017-09-04 24758, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
process, not prices
2017-09-04 24704, 2017
adhawkins
Ok. Presumably jira tasks / tickets can depend on others? E.g. I can't complete 'add area-list' until I complete 'add area element'...
2017-09-04 24715, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
oh yes
2017-09-04 24720, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
you cna link thme so
2017-09-04 24725, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
"x depends on y

2017-09-04 24736, 2017
adhawkins
Ok. I'll do some investigation then. Thanks for the advice, you learn something new every day :)
2017-09-04 24747, 2017
Freso
Means you can directly reference the specific tickets in any given commits as well.
2017-09-04 24759, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
yes
2017-09-04 24706, 2017
adhawkins
Ok, cheers. Thanks all.
2017-09-04 24713, 2017
ZaphodBeeblebrox
also you can add the components to the ticket as well
2017-09-04 24722, 2017
Freso
Not sure if there's a GitHub/Jira link set up for libmb either, but then Jira could also automatically pick up and link to any relevant commits from the tickets.
2017-09-04 24709, 2017
adhawkins
Freso: How would that be arranged if it's not? libmb is a project under the metabrainz org on github

jwf: did you get my response to your independent studies email?
2017-09-04 24739, 2017

adhawkins: I can't remember.
2017-09-04 24714, 2017

Freso: Ah ok. Any way to check if it is in fact set up?
2017-09-04 24724, 2017

I don't know. :)
2017-09-04 24730, 2017

2017-09-04 24715, 2017

Ok. Well, check if you remember and let me know. Then I'll do some reading on how to reference tickets in commits.

This is just not something that has to do be done in any kind of frequent basis. :)
2017-09-04 24744, 2017

one thing we could help if, if you're so inclined, is to add LB support to popular players. like VLC.
2017-09-04 24759, 2017
Kxze
Sounds like a fun project. Is there any support for Android yet?
2017-09-04 24700, 2017
ruaok
there is one client library. literally nothing else yet.
2017-09-04 24755, 2017

I see. I'm gonna look into making a Node wrapper for the API, just to see how everything works at the moment, then add support to the players I use
2017-09-04 24719, 2017
iliekcomputers has almost got vlc working with api_compat
ruaok: Hey! I saw the email just now. Sorry for the late response, I was traveling during this last week and got home last night. I'll get back to you later today.
