for gateways, i have consul-template started by runit, but i'm using consul-template exec config option for it to start a subprocess, signals are going though the whole stack (if they need to): signal -> container -> runit -> consul-template -> subprocess
this way you can control start/stop/reload much better, but the configuration depends on which signal your sub-process is using. The signal will be catched by the first target but not passed further.
