samj1912: in the setup documentation, please list ports and protocols used, and their exact roles. I see you open them all to the world, are you sure it is required ? Which ones are used for inter-nodes communication and which ones are used to access the service from the world ? Also i see no port open on solr3 atm

samj1912: the goal is to use solr cloud in prod, as soon as possible, so experiment as much you wish, ask help if you need, get more people involved on it to test and fix/improve and write down everything needed to be able to deploy a solr cloud from scratch. We have to get rid of old search asap, it causes zillions of issues as you know. We also need to move current solr stuff from queen to reclaim resources for postgresql.
