I want to do an audio player that uses MBIDs internally, but still works offline. I will probably just use sqlite and I'm overthinking this
      • 2018-09-20 26348, 2018

      • ruaok
I wonder if you're underthinking this, sadly.

Our database is huge and encompasses many many artists.
      • 2018-09-20 26321, 2018

      • ruaok
how are you going to know what metadata to download beforehand?
      • 2018-09-20 26337, 2018

      • ruaok
you might consider tagging your music collection with Picard, our tagging application.
      • 2018-09-20 26304, 2018

      • ruaok
that pushes a lot of data into tags of your files and then your player can read and display the data found in tags.
      • 2018-09-20 26303, 2018

      • ehmry
I use picard now, but I am considering rearraging my music collection to store audio data in files named by mbid only, and then keep metadata to make sense of those
      • 2018-09-20 26305, 2018

      • ruaok
ok, if that is for a limited number of files, you could fetch the related info via our Web Service (API) and just store the responses in sqlite. then you can parse them just prior to using the data.

I would either color all letters of metabrainz different or a same shade of grey...just that. can't imagine how hexagons will look...
      • 2018-09-20 26302, 2018

      • chhavi_
        Maybe symmetry is overrated :p
      • 2018-09-20 26303, 2018

      • ruaok
I was hoping to leave the MetaBrainz letters as they are and not mess with them, but to replace those boring an unimaginative straight lines from the previous artist.
      • 2018-09-20 26358, 2018

      • ruaok
honestly, I am happy with the top design as is, perhaps just clarifying if we should have stylistically dishelveled hexagons or perfectly straight ones?
      • 2018-09-20 26325, 2018

      • ruaok
er sorry... Perfectly gayly forwards ones. (as my gay friends from SF would exclaim)

I am imagining disheveled hexagons and they don't look that bad. But I am sure many people will like the continuity from the carpet.
      • 2018-09-20 26347, 2018

      • ruaok
