I want to do an audio player that uses MBIDs internally, but still works offline. I will probably just use sqlite and I'm overthinking this
ruaok
I wonder if you're underthinking this, sadly.
Our database is huge and encompasses many many artists.
how are you going to know what metadata to download beforehand?
you might consider tagging your music collection with Picard, our tagging application.
that pushes a lot of data into tags of your files and then your player can read and display the data found in tags.
ehmry
I use picard now, but I am considering rearraging my music collection to store audio data in files named by mbid only, and then keep metadata to make sense of those
ruaok
ok, if that is for a limited number of files, you could fetch the related info via our Web Service (API) and just store the responses in sqlite. then you can parse them just prior to using the data.

ruaok: no, not cleaned out spike, but I'll try and do it before the end of the weekend
chhavi_: any other feedback on the top one? see the questions above.

I would either color all letters of metabrainz different or a same shade of grey...just that. can't imagine how hexagons will look...
Maybe symmetry is overrated :p
ruaok
I was hoping to leave the MetaBrainz letters as they are and not mess with them, but to replace those boring an unimaginative straight lines from the previous artist.
honestly, I am happy with the top design as is, perhaps just clarifying if we should have stylistically dishelveled hexagons or perfectly straight ones?
er sorry... Perfectly gayly forwards ones. (as my gay friends from SF would exclaim)
chhavi_
Haha..
I am imagining disheveled hexagons and they don't look that bad. But I am sure many people will like the continuity from the carpet.
ruaok
I quite like the disheveledness of it.
chhavi_
(Sorry I am not much help.)😂
ruaok
that helps, actually.
but I kinda want more people to chime in. Perhaps Mr_Monkey since he will look at it a bit too

ruaok: I like the top one better too. I second the re-colouring of the "Brainz" letters, each a different one, so 3 letters to repaint. I can definitely help with that.

I'm not sure where I stand on the symmetry or lack thereof.
ruaok
I'm hiring Aina to do that -- trying to support our own crew. :)
Mr_Monkey
Good :)
Then I'd say symmetry at the artist's discretion.
ruaok
oh, I see your point about recoloring letters.
I didn't what chhavi_ was saying.
recolor the letters to represent all the brainz projects, then have the hexagons creep up the wall from the carpet in a mish mash of other colors.
like that?
Mr_Monkey
Like that.
ruaok
I dig it.
chhavi_
Yep like that.:)
ruaok
ok, I fished out the colors and am working up marching orders for aina.

ruaok: oh, you get those too?
we've been getting them for freesound since gdpr-day
the "I don't want to know how" is new, first emails didn't send it
it took us a long time to find them
we've sent a few emails to them, not much response, and the response that we get aren't very nice/useful
we're finding a _huge_ number of people from whom we get emails who don't even have an account with us
note that the gdpr does give you the ability to verify the validity of the user's request, from what I understand this be a reply which says "in order for us to confirm that this request is valid, please delete your account at [x]"

Just another internet nuisance. Just like every new page you visit you have to click through 6 privacy dialogs...

I think those are just automated services and the people who enter their stuff don't know, I mean i hell don't remember all of the various things I've signed up for over the years and forgotten about
so they probably just have a database of "usual suspets" and when someone sends in their email to these services the service just sends "remove "insert email here"'s account thing to all theri "usual suspects"
reosarevok
Well, as far as I can tell they're supposed to check your emails to look what you're subscribed to
But they also do say they have a fair amount of false positives, so
CatQuest
thy probably pick websites with *many* accounts, and, because of our dumb spam acounts ammass, we are in their triggered 2usual suspects" list
possibly
(since it's very likly that a website with millions o users has *that one guys account* probal)
it's cheaper to jsut send the "remove this person" emai lthna ot look if we actualy *do have it ,sicne they they have ot email us directly and go throuh our system and stuff
reosarevok
bitmap / yvanzo: what would you suggest to convert next? Assuming taglookup is ok, but I think it is :)
CatQuest
anyway how do they check which websites? by trying ot sign up with it or loginto the webiste with your email?
afaik there is no automated "does this email have an accoutn with you" service on all websites
reosarevok
CatQuest: as far as I can tell you download an app and then the app looks at your email and sees
"Why do accounts appear even though I’m not a user? Our way of indexing your accounts is not 100% right at all times (yet). So sometimes it may appear as you are a user even though you are not. Apologies for that. A quick and easy way to handle these are to mark it as an invalid account under more."
CatQuest
I wonder how they get that false positive though. i mena if somee email with the right triggering words in i nthe history
but then I wonder about analyzing emaisl and having acces. that soudns megahairy
not to menation that you cna a) do that work yourself and b) if i deleted the signup email or whatever there wont be the info for thme so it's not gonan know
