Documentation is a multi-stage process. Writing to clearly convey a concept / message, and presenting the written word such that people can easily find it and attractive enough that they'll read it. Two (or three) different skill sets.

Having the coder responsible for updating the docs may not be the best solution. Typically coders are not great when it comes to writing good (easily understood) documentation.

But it’s better than having outdated documentation.

Which is the alternative and current reality.

Thus the need to try to attach a documentation person (volunteer) to each project.

Which, as we discussed earlier, is too ephemeral to be a sustainable solution.

Maybe a more achievable first step is to make sure devs know that they're responsible for *flagging* areas where new/updated docs are needed.

Perhaps there needs to be an overall "DocsBrainz" project, with someone who understands "technical writing" or has writing skills leading it?
