        FWIW, as freenode staff, the Matrix people do not seem to have such a good grasp of their IRC bridging as some users of their service claims/thinks, but I don’t know enough about the technical details about it.

        as far as it goes, https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-ircd (an "ircd" which is just a protocol bridge to turn an irc client into a matrix client) seems like a much better option than attempting to do two-way synchronization between two very different protocols that both have state.
