I was talking to some MTG people about this system in general. One suggestion from there was "recommending people", rather than recommending tracks. This sounds pretty similar to what ruaok commented about follwing zas' feed

initially, "I want to get suggestions from zas" -> later -> "here's someone who listens to similar stuff that you do, you might want to follow them to get suggestions"

my idea was to allow posting about anything that has an MBID. users could have MBIds. :)

I think that is a great idea, but for a later version.

i think it had two major problems

second, I think brainzplayer should now get a play queue.

1. the UX is not obvious to anyone but us

2. it was real time, which meant it was never really useful

yeah, I hoped the listens stream would be a good real time thing, but we can't bank on that yet. maybe with more data and tighter integrations.

+1 to both of those.

my feeling on brainzplayer going forward is that I want it to be a tool for random bopping around LB and it following me.

spotify did a feature where you long clicked a track on an album it would play you a preview. I loved that feature, but it went away.

i think the brainzplayer improvements would make the feed more useful for sure. but i don't think it's a hard dependency.

Yes, play queue will be critical to a good listening experience. That's already at the top of the bucket

I know I can encounter tracks that are interesting, but that a outside the scope of what I want to listen to right now.

Yes, I do that "listen to this again later" playlist on Spotify with great success

idk if this is relevant to you guys but. i personally am missing a "friends" feature in lb (and bb and mb at all)
