reosarevok: I'm curious which part would cause the timeouts: probably not counting the edits, so the edit searches that are linked? but you can still do those manually too

Hi, i want to ask how i can use the musicbrainz databse with java. I cound apis in the developer page but not for java.

      • reosarevok
_lucifer: do you know if there's any like that? Since you've been doing MB java work
      • 2020-10-19 29348, 2020

      • reosarevok
bitmap: yeah, dunno! Like, I assume there's a reason, but maybe this was made at random :p

bitmap: I do kinda feel avoiding it flooding people's "edits for my subscribed entities" pages makes sense FWIW
      • 2020-10-19 29334, 2020

      • reosarevok
But at the same time, if someone really wanted to flood their page... should we stop them

Hi Mik15, there seems to be https://github.com/schnatterer/musicbrainzws2-java but I never used it.
      • 2020-10-19 29320, 2020

      • bitmap
that is true, it could make that page useless if someone doesn't know what subscribing to it does

      • _lucifer
Mik15: you want to connect to web service or to a local copy of mb database ?
      • 2020-10-19 29307, 2020

      • Mik15
I want to connect to web-service.
      • 2020-10-19 29350, 2020

      • _lucifer
you can use the library yvanzo mentioned above or just use your own stuff.

Ißm writing a catlagogue programm in java with tomcat and want to show on metafiles. Missing metailes i want to add.
      • 2020-10-19 29336, 2020

      • _lucifer
it should be really simple to query the web service directly without a library.
      • 2020-10-19 29358, 2020

      • _lucifer
there is no auth involved and you have a single limited use case.
      • 2020-10-19 29344, 2020

      • Mik15
ok, i will try the library. this 3 years old and hope it works :)

_lucifer: would the JAXB classes help with?
      • 2020-10-19 29349, 2020

      • _lucifer
yvanzo: that could help with writing the POJOs

reosarevok, bitmap: as long as we are not mailing the actual list of edits, I guess it's fine to allow subscriptions, but maybe a confirmation dialog to explain the consequences would be useful here.

_lucifer: thanks for looking into the spark database stuff - I think it's a good idea that we don't connect spark directly to the production database, this has a risk of causing slowdowns, especially if we have to load a lot of data
      • 2020-10-19 29334, 2020

      • alastairp
I think that if we want to use it, we should load subsets of the data into hdfs for processing
