But as far as I can tell, the emails never were stored, so that was never really fixed :p

reosarevok: IIRC it was not required to have a verified email to use most of website’s features in the past, and it’s not the case anymore, right?

Well, it was always (or for a long time...) required for editing and I guess for messaging

But not for rating and tagging, which we did change eventually

I dunno if there was a time where it wasn't required for more stuff :)

It is probably not intended to display it for users with verified email, doesn’t seem useful.

Required for public profile/bio too maybe?

Well, you can't have a public bio while a beginner

And you can't stop being a beginner without accepted edits

And you can't edit without a verified email

So at least to have a public bio you must have once had a verified email

you could SSH tunnel to the servers in germany with `ssh -D 9999 lemmy.metabrainz.org`

then configure your brower to a SOCK proxy on port 9999. that is how I get around blocks. :)

I must say their docs aren't the easiest to navigate. I missed that part on my first forray into the API docs

So I guess the workflow would be:

1. use musickitJS to log the user in and get a user token

2. pass the token to the server for validation

3. validation response contains a refresh token that we store

4. use the refresh token whenever the server needs to do an action needing the user's token

5. profit?

Mr_Monkey, checking that out. i think these user tokens might be different from the Music User Tokens used by Musickit JS

I'm basing that on the fact that they have a method to check if a user can access the music api, which is based on the same user tokens

my findings are that if we only want website playback, we don't need to store user tokens for deezer and apple music. those are the only "other services: that support it.

both deezer and apple music support accessing user listening history and that part needs storing tokens.
