right now. Anyways, I was going to work out the code whether or not I get selected in GSoC.
      • 2021-05-03 12301, 2021

      • zas
dhhruv: as is, it is likely your proposal will be dismissed, mainly because at this point you should have explored the related project a bit more and it results your proposal is too thin. Though I encourage you to get involved in MetaBrainz projects, because contributing, even outside GSoC, is a good thing. If you want to get involved into Picard, just select few tickets to work on, and open pull requests.

okno_: (and maybe others) I'm Ritiek and I've been somewhat involved with the musicbrainz_rs project lately. I've submitted an application on the GSoC forum to this project. I realize it's pretty late given the official application deadline is today, but better late than never! I'd be interested if anyone has any feedback to share on the application.

      • 2021-04-12 10256, 2021

      • Mr_Monkey
I think that would be interesting, but out of scope for this project (especially with a shorter GSoC this year)

I'm looking to make a proposal for GSOC about adding html pages in listenbrainz that display data missing from MB. When matching msids and mbids, if we don't get a match then are those considered missing listens?
      • 2021-04-05 09529, 2021

      • yyoung
Hi, I'm a student applying for GSoc 2021. I saw this on the ideas page of MusicBrainz: "Support caching icons for external links from DDG favicon service" and would like to know more detail about it. What does it mean by caching icons from DDG? Does it mean getting icons from DDG and then cache it, or using DDG cached icons?
      • 2021-04-05 09551, 2021

      • akshaaatt[m]
Should I wait for gsoc to resolve this? _lucifer
      • 2021-04-04 09443, 2021

      • adhi001
regarding GSOC, I had a few questions about the third idea under ListenBrainz - adding html pages that display data missing from MusicBrainz. What I understand is that we get listens in LB and not all of these listens have matching recordings in MB. For those listens that don't have a match, we are looking to give the user an option to log them in MB right? (with some of the data prefilled in MB data addition form)
      • 2021-04-03 09316, 2021

hence why I waited until the last time I went to a gsoc summit to buy my keyboard

that would also be the sort of thing that would be good before the GSoC period starts. that way we can get to know you a bit before things get busy.

      • Mr_Monkey
There was an unfinished GSoC project from a few years ago that set out to import datasets. If you wanted to work on that feature it might be a good starting point. Be advised it is very much outdated and the codebase has moved on, but it could serve as a good base.
      • 2021-03-28 08757, 2021

      • akshaaatt[m]
<_lucifer "akshaaatt: yes i did. changes lo"> Great! On it. _lucifer I'll be drafting my GSOC 2021 proposal soon. Would love your thoughts on it. I'm keen on completing this application this year with you, with a unique design and more added features to the app :)

but given the limited scope of GSoC, it is unclear if there is much room for us to change our approach....

      • 2021-03-26 08525, 2021

      • _lucifer
Freso: since the GSoC student application period is approaching, GSoC proposals from earlier years should probably be removed from the forums (like it was done previous year).

regarding MusicBrainz Android, I have received a few queries on my email. I have redirected them to the channel. I do now have any particular ideas to make a suitable GSoC project but I'll be happy to mentor if any of the applicants come up with one.

Yes, I think the social features, now that we have a better idea of what they should be, would be great for GSoC. I am somewhat hesitant to add recommendation stuff for half sized gsoc projects.

alastairp, bitmap, zas, Mr_Monkey: time to augment the ideas and take exising ideas and chop them in half, since GSoC is being cut in half this year. keep in mind that we can try out to sponsor 1 or 2 people for doing a second half of the project.
