Hey all, currently in a really weird spot atm
      • https://www.deezer.com/en/album/486430835 How would I title this single when adding it to the database?

quick question, I can see that there are 2 very similar musibrainz releases for odyssey by home. there is https://musicbrainz.org/release/919fc2f5-1ab8-4... and there is https://musicbrainz.org/release/dfc34d7d-f7b0-4... both have the same link to the bandcamp page. 1 has release in 2019 even though the bandcamp doesn't list anywhere for 2019. i know there is a vinyl version. Any thoughts on these
      • release groups please?
      • <binzy> "https://www.deezer.com/en/album/..." <- in terms of captialisation, I would leave as is.its the title of the single. there is a guess case button when adding track tiles. That would be my best guess, unless an auto editor says otherwise
      • discordbrainz
<04elomatreb> I can't tell a difference between these two either, it's possible they're just leftovers as the edit histories include multiple merges
      • <04elomatreb> I think I would lean towards merging
      • Goldmaster[m]1
discordbrainz: ah many thanks for your help
      • discordbrainz
<04elomatreb> Ah, I guess I get what happened
      • <04elomatreb> the label renamed themselves, so all the URLs were updated
      • <04elomatreb> given this I would not merge, since the different label imprint makes it a different release
      • Goldmaster[m]1
discordbrainz: humm, a release can have 2 different labels
      • but on the Bandcamp page there is no mention of 2019.
      • discordbrainz
<04elomatreb> a release should be linked to two labels if both labels are listed at the same time (e.g. on the back of a CD). For digital this gets harder to tell apart, but in this case it's either one or the other depending on the point in time
      • <04elomatreb> Sadly the editor who added that 2019 date didn't leave an edit note, but I would presume that that's the date the label changed name
      • Goldmaster[m]1
discordbrainz: Blimey that's hard. i have put it out there. the eyewitness Bandcamp page does not exist.
      • discordbrainz
<04elomatreb> it does not exist anymore, but yeah this can be confusing
      • <04elomatreb> if you want to investigate, try and see if it's available in the Internet Archive

      • <05rustynova> Is there an API endpoint available to get the entity type of a given mbid? Or do I need to fetch all the endpoints until it matches something?
      • <05rustynova> I mean all the entity endpoints
      • zer0bitz has quit
      • <04elomatreb> I don' think there is an endpoint in the "proper" API, but the website has a redirect. musicbrainz.org/mbid/<MBID>; will redirect to the correct page

I have a question about a release I'd like to add. It's the DVD release of the album "The Altogether" by Orbital.
      • It's a regular DVD-Video disc, so all the songs are in DVD-Video format with AC3/DTS surround mixes.
      • And each track has a video, and I think some have more than one.
      • Discogs has some info about it here: https://www.discogs.com/release/182434-Orbital-...
      • So, I have several questions, mainly because I haven't done any editing on MusicBrainz for a while
      • So, would each song on this release get it's own new recording? One of them is lengthened from 10 minutes to 22 minutes, so it definitely does, but should I do the same for ones where the extra length comes from non-music segments of the music video? What about the ones where the length is the same?

      • my problem was similar, but basically import from discogs, then edit afterwards
      • ajshell1
So, in my case, should I just copy over the stuff from discogs? Should I include any of the bonus feature stuff, or just the main song stuff?
      • mr44er[m]
yes, first import as much from discogs, then do fine-tuning afterwards.
      • ajshell1
Also, this page says that audio recordings with different channel numbers should have their own recordings: https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Style/Recording
      • But what should I name these? <Track name> (5.1 mix)?
      • gchound has quit
      • mr44er[m]
ah, for now there is no possibility to differentiate between codecs
      • AFAIK
      • so, only regular track names and lengths/duration
      • do I understand it correctly that it has a regular track10 "meltdown" 22:00 and another with 24 minutes? if yes, then I would add this as track14
      • * as track14 and only if it's another mix/version of the song. not if this is some PAL/NTSC conversion stuff.

mr44er[m] Sorry, I'm back, I had to cook lunch
      • The box says the version of Meltdown is 24 minutes, but it's only 22 on the disc LOL

      • mr44er[m]
        that's what I guessed on the discogs-site
      • booklets with track lists are mostly incomplete...three real tracks with three chapters on booklet as "medley ~15mins"...it's more pain than fun 😉
      • Island_ joined the channel
      • https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/0492e8af-... <- check these edits. 10 tracks from discogs, but had only 9 chapters.
      • and to add a little more confusion as to why I even mentioned PAL/NTSC: PAL runs at 25fps, NTSC at either 29.970 or 23.976. regarding audio it means that PAL runs faster/shorter. Good studios and production companies also make sure that the pitch is adjusted, but if you don't print a correct cover with tracks, then that won't bother you. ;) In any case, assuming that 24 minutes were the real and correct playing time of the track in NTSC,
      • then that would be converted to PAL with the factor 0,95904. assuming 24*60secs = 1440 secs total. NTSC->PAL speedup-> 1440*0,95904=1381 secs = ~23,01mins
      • and yeah...23 is not 22 🙂
      • binzy
<Goldmaster[m]1> I meant more what to make the name. The name on Deezer and other platforms in text doesn't match the title on the album cover, and clearly both have their own typos and mistakes
