Freso: should I refer to MeB as they, or we, or just steer clear of pronouns?
      • Freso
gcilou: Feel free to use "we" :)
      • gcilou
        great :)
      • chrisskye
Sorry...late...I haven’t been able to get in my head the time difference of 8 hours, and the time of this meeting.
      • Slow work week for me too. Although, busy in Canadaland.
      • gcilou
Freso: the script is coming together on that doc, and also I posted another comment out there about some MB data facts ;)
      • armalcolite
        Freso: kartik is comming
      • Freso
        chrisskye: fin? :)
      • armalcolite: Okay then.
      • chrisskye
        fin
      • Freso
Guess the meeting's not completely over then...

Hi Freso! Totally forgot about the meeting
      • Freso
kartikgupta0909: Go go go with your review!
      • kartikgupta0909
we had a few problems setting up the PPA
      • tried to resolve them but still working on them
      • and will be spending this week writing the server code for giving the user an option for training the dataset on his/her own machine
      • fin
      • Freso
        Thanks!
      • cetko's still not said a word.
      • So.
      • re-</BANG>
      • chrisskye
gcilou: ^like seeing the page design updates coming along :)
      • gcilou
        chrisskye: Merci :)
      • Freso
Please be sure to be here in time next week (chrisskye, kartikgupta0909).
      • There's a Google Calendar with the meeting time at https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=... if you can't figure out your timezones.
      • I've told Google to ping me 15 minutes before meeting start.
      • chrisskye
-sigh- I know my timezones...I just totally forget in the morning...then I sit down to work and -wham- missed it!
      • Freso
chrisskye: Hence why an alarm might be good. ;)
      • gcilou
Freso: btw, the Google calendar says 7pm which is actually 2pm here..
      • chrisskye
I’m outside a lot and not with the phone (no data)...so calendar reminders and pings don’t reach me!
      • QuoraUK
its wrong in my timezone as well it seems
      • chrisskye
I recommend walking away from the electronics...it is rather liberating...
      • gcilou
        :(
      • Freso
gcilou: The calendar is in UTC. Use the "+ Google Calendar" in the bottom-right corner to import it into your personal G calendar.
      • chirlu has quit
      • QuoraUK: ^
      • gcilou
        Ah nice
      • QuoraUK
        Freso: rad, cheers
      • Freso
chrisskye: If you add the calendar to your own Google Calendar, you can sync it with your phone's calendar and you can get alerts even if you don't currently have data.
      • chirlu joined the channel
      • (Won't help if you completely shut down the phone, of course.)
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK: let's postpone 10 minutes if that's OK for you, I have dinner now :P
      • QuoraUK
        LordSputnik:sure, no worries
      • chrisskye
Freso: When I don’t have data...I tend not to use the phone...
      • gcilou
Freso: it would be funny to have a counter on the screen to count how many times I say data ... 😬
      • chrisskye
I don’t take it outside when I’m gardening.
      • Phone is on...it just isn’t close to my body for much of the time here. hahaha
      • gcilou
LB and MsB are twins/twins-ish right?
      • Freso
        gcilou: Kind of, yeah.
      • Developed alongside each other, at least, AFAIK. ruaok or russss or alastairp might know more details.
      • alastairp
        yes, they are
      • gcilou
        👍
      • alastairp
gcilou: what do you want to know for?
      • I wouldn't advertise msb anywhere
      • gcilou
alastairp: the google presentation. I'm just giving an overview on the projects
      • alastairp
        ah, sure
      • chrisskye
Freso: related to the brainstorming...is there some other notes somewhere about the TaskRabbit?
      • Freso
chrisskye: Not really. I don't think it's been discussed more than the couple of times ruaok mentioned it in here.
      • But I do stand by the comments I gave you earlier. :)
      • chrisskye
I don’t want to tread on his feet...he might have more ideas than I do
      • I can go public with ideas without checking with him?
      • I’m a bit too old school about the ‘boss’...
      • Freso
chrisskye: You're an employee of MetaBrainz now, but that also makes you a part of the community.
      • chrisskye
        hahaha...um...yeah...
      • Freso
And even though ruaok is le jefe, the organisational structure is fairly flat.
      • I do run a lot of things by him before putting them public, but not always.
      • chrisskye
...so I can publicly vent ALL of my crazy ideas?
      • Freso
As far as I am concerned, sure. :)
      • chrisskye
and you’ll kick me if they’re out of line with policy?
      • Zastai
but probably more useful to do it here on IRC since otherwise we can't hear you
      • gentle prodding at first, I'm sure
      • chrisskye
        Zastai: here and the forum
      • Zastai
        aye
      • Freso
I mean, I think it would be good for the community to see both the thoughts you have come up with regarding "BrainzRabbit" but also the thoughts ruaok has had.
      • diana_olhovyk joined the channel
      • And then they can say which direction of the two they prefer, a combination, or something completely third.
      • chrisskye

      • Zastai
I thing we need to have some dynamic user help on the site. You know, some animated icon that says things like "It looks like you're trying to mess up an add-release edit. Want some help with that?". I call it ClipBrainz.
      • chrisskye
        ahh...that’s interesting...
      • Zastai
The sad thing is, several people here will be too young to get the reference.
      • Freso
chrisskye: Also, "BrainzRabbit" is no hurry. All devs are going to be quite busy for the foreseeable future anyway. So let's take the time to get this discussed and laid out properly. :)
      • Freso got it
      • chrisskye
I understand there is no rush...but I like to have years to let an idea develop well...
      • Here is the link to my brainstorming notes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LadqRAuR3FA...
      • Freso
        :)
      • Freso goes to get food
      • gcilou thinks this is getting longer than 5 minutes .. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oCP8hyV3B_l5kyWc720hNQ4dEnHvL0_XY_08MZvrey4/edit?usp=sharing
      • LordSputnik
        QuoraUK: ping
      • gcilou: I'd aim to keep it at about 10 slides
      • QuoraUK
        LordSputnik: pong
      • LordSputnik
If you're going much quicker than 30 seconds a slide it might be too fast - I tend to aim for around a minute with 3 or 4 bullet points of info
      • QuoraUK: hows it gone today?
      • QuoraUK
It was ok, I had some crazy frustrating bug but I got there in the end :P
      • Freso
gcilou: I think you're cramping in too many things you want to tell. Once you think you're about done with the notes, try and do the presentation to one or both of your parents (or in school or whatever) and have someone in the audience time how long the presentation is.
      • QuoraUK
im still not 100% comfortable with the promises concept yet, but im getting there
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK: that's good - what was the bug?
      • Zastai
chrisskye: ah so the rabbit is not a purely automated support thing, it's more of a bounty system with optional live chat support? aimed at making it easy for non-techy musicians/labels to add data about their releases? sounds like a good idea.
      • chrisskye
Zastai: this is real person support
      • Freso
Zastai: https://www.taskrabbit.com/ is ruaok's original inspiration.
      • gcilou
        Freso: ok thanks.
      • QuoraUK
LordSputnik: I forgot to add an foreign key id to the thing I was testing, mocha didn't give me anything useful until it reached the end and I was stopping it mid way >.<
      • It was telling me about the wrong thing pretty much :P
      • chrisskye
Zastai: thanks for the link! forgot where it had come from
      • Freso
gcilou: 6 minutes is okay. 10 minutes is not. :)
      • LordSputnik
        QuoraUK: ahhh OK, I see
      • gcilou
        :)
      • LordSputnik
So, you've got the model tests all done now?
      • Freso
        (5:00 minutes is perfect!)
      • Zastai
(was Freso posting the link, not me)
      • QuoraUK
LordSputnik: Am I ok to use mocha and chai in the main bbsite by the way?
      • LordSputnik: All done yeah :D
      • chrisskye
I think my idea meshes that a bit more with a support model. I call it a Valet...where you can get help...but you have to “tip”. So..we ask for donations in return for support.
      • Freso
Uff. Don't mix mocha and chai! Heathen! D:
      • QuoraUK
        :P
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK: yes, we already use mocha, but only have 4 tests - to check that 4 of the pages give 200 responses
      • Freso
chrisskye: I think ruaok's idea is more "we have this data, we'll pay [someone] to enter it in MB".
      • chrisskye
Zastai: and then using the tip/donation pool and hopefully some sponsors we can offer a reward/incentive pool to give back to the Valets
      • Freso
        E.g., submit an Excel spreadsheet.
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK: Ok, so what are you planning for tomorrow?
      • QuoraUK
LordSputnik: Yeah, I noticed. I went on a hunt for the tests and couldn't find them. That was why :P
      • LordSputnik: Work on another badge, and get the tests in the main bbsite module, I have no real way of testing it actually works at the moment
      • Zastai
chrisskye: for 100 Valet points, your requests will bypass the rate limiter for one week
      • :D
      • chrisskye
Freso: yeah...this builds on that...but we don’t take pay...we take donations...and then we give back rewards...but in a more flexible structure than fee for service
      • QuoraUK
LordSputnik: once that is done I can add more stuff to that part
      • chrisskye
        Zastai: hahahaha
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK: oh did you already work on a badge?
      • QuoraUK
LordSputnik: Working with the promises Im still not too comfortable that it actually works
      • Freso
chrisskye: BrainzRabbit task money would not go to/through MetaBrainz, but directly to the people doing the tasks.
      • MetaBrainz would just act as the middleman/agent getting the two parties talking.
      • QuoraUK
LordSputnik: Just the design for one yeah, It pretty basic. I found out about mozillas badge creator, which looks really cool. Unfortunatly its in closed beta at the moment.
      • chrisskye
Freso: my proposal is that the money goes to general admin. We administer a rewards system. Rewards might be transferable into something cash based...
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK: just had a look, looks interesting :)
      • chrisskye
We could say all donations to that pool go back into rewards...and never to general admin...but I like the keeping this as donation and reward based and not a task/job/pay scheme
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK: OK, so what are you having trouble with with promises, anything I can help with?
      • Freso
chrisskye: I see your idea, but I would honestly love if we could get a couple of people to sustain themselves by editing MB. I don't see that happening from your idea.
      • gcilou
Freso: should I say meb has build"8 projects" or just say like "we've got a bunch and here they are"?
      • Freso
        gcilou: "A bunch"
      • gcilou
        👍
      • chrisskye
Freso: well...if it goes to general admin and is successful...then it could become the basis for a hiring someone...
      • Freso
Picard was technically not developed by MetaBrainz, I think.
      • QuoraUK
LordSputnik: I think its just the general control flow, I dont particularly understand when and where you return them or just directly use them either
      • Freso
chrisskye: Sure. But I don't think *MetaBrainz* should employ someone for that.
      • chrisskye: BBC currently has reosarevok employed to enter data.
      • Someone pays CatQuest to enter releases.
      • danimal4 joined the channel
      • I've been paid by BBC to enter data before being employed by MeB.
      • chrisskye
Freso: was generally aware of that. I feel some sort of general conflict with this on the side for/profit thing.
      • LordSputnik
QuoraUK: OK, so, a Promise is a JavaScript object which "resolves" to a value. That means that you hold onto it until it's done with whatever it's doing asynchronously, and then when it's done, you can have it run a callback and do some other stuff. To pass this callback to the Promise, you use the ".then" method
