streaming replication still isn't working between them, but I've made a lot of progress on that
mostly silly networking and file permission issues
yvanz / chirlu started submitting more mbs prs, so I was also reviewing / merging those :)

BrainzBot
You're doing good work, yvanz / chirlu!
bitmap
at the the hack weekend I was mostly messing with consul with help from zas, and it seems to be running properly now
he did 99% of the work though
Freso
bitmap: Over the jetlag yet?
bitmap
yes, I think so
Freso
:)

ruaok
bitmap, Gentlecat: coming to the office tomorrow? I was stuck doing accounting today.
but I want to chat/pick your brains about the repos you started today.
I need to do all that for the search stuff.
Freso
bitmap: Pick next one when you've answered ruaok :)
bitmap
ruaok: yeah, I should come tomorrow
uhh Freso?
ruaok
great. lets get lunch too.
Freso
🙋
Yay! Lunch! 🙌
Anyway. I have also been in BCN last weekend.
Then I went home.
And then I went home from my old home.
Ie., I'm now in BCN again.
And it's weird, man.
gcilou
Freso: do you have a place yet? or just crashing ruaok's?
Freso
It hasn't quite settled with me. Will probably feel more real once I actually have a place to live etc. :)
gcilou: ^
gcilou
ah
ruaok
crashing on my couch right now.
Freso
Anyway. BCN round 1 and the dev./hack "weekend".
We were off to a slow start as bitmap came a day later than originally planned, but it was nice getting the core developers together.
We met up on Friday and had a briefing (ended up being the only briefing we had the weekend) about where we were and where we wanted to be and how we should probably get there.
Ie., dockerise all the things - with a lot of focus on getting musicbrainz.org fully dockerised and copied to NewHost so we can start (stress) testing it.
We weren't fully there on Monday, and I'm not sure how far we've gotten during the week.
Anyway, this is basically what zas, ruaok, bitmap, and Gentlecat worked on as chirlu was working on some other scripts to help with the testing part once we've actually gotten the servers up.
chirlu
DoS-ing NewHost!
Freso
We managed to see fireworks on the beach, projections on the city center, and of course the correfoc during the Merce.
And managed to get amazing gelato on the very last night.
ruaok
I went to anohter correfoc and learnt that when you get burnt on a burn, that it doesn't feel so good.

fin?
Freso
I managed to catch up ever so slightly on my community management duties during last weekend, when I was not looking stuff up or fetching food.
But then I went home and was fully absorbed into packing and cleaning mode, so I expect to be quite a bit behind again. :(
I hope to be able to get caught up this week.
Fin.
LordSputnik!
LordSputnik
ACK
So, these past two weeks I've been making steady progress on the new editing interface for BookBrainz
Most of the client-side JS is now written, and I'll start moving on to making some small updates to the server code before opening a PR
It'll also be up for some testing/feedback once I have a stable IP address here :P
Redux is pretty fantastic
fin.
(I'll also push about 30 commits once I get some decent internet)
zas next? or has he been?
zas
I was in BCN, happy to meet people there :) We discussed about the new architecture, docker, swarm, etc.... I upgraded (and rebooted) servers multiple times due to (mainly) openssl vulnerabilities fixes, also we have a silly clock on good ol' wiley, nothing much to do (and we move to new servers soon). I wonder about JIRA (it is the last thing on wiley) and
how we should handle the move for it.
ruaok
pick the next person.
Freso
zas is still up.
ruaok stumbled across this earlier https://goo.gl/photos/zWSnrByyDuqxGjPn9
I haven't seen any life sign from CatQuest or anyone else speaking up, so I think we're through.
ruaok: docker review!
ruaok
aight.
so, it seems that Gentlecat and bitmap (and soon me) are blocked by getting gateways going.
what is left, zas?
TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz | MeB meeting agenda: docker review (ruaok), HTTPS conversion of Wikipedia links (chirlu), translation of documentation (yvanz), weekly office gatherings (ruaok)
oh za-as!
zas
Well, i think most is done but we need a lot of glue
ruaok
any chance you can get something going in the mornign?
zas
not sure, but i'll try to get something up tomorrow for sure, so we can start tests
ruaok
anything, as long as it passes traffic in some way.
that should be the next goal, above all else right now.
alastairp
ruaok: they had the fiesta major on the superilla a few weeks ago, it was awesome
zas
It is for me
ruaok
zas: ok, great.
alastairp: just saw that. I didn't get a chance to make it. :(
zas
but i still have to clean up old configs and tune them for new architecture
ruaok
can that be put off until something provisionary is in place?
bitmap: tomorrow I would like to see about deploying the search stuff to see if it can connect to postgres.
Gentlecat: bitmap: is there anything else blocking you guys right now?
bitmap
hmm not that I know of
ruaok
and just so that everyone knows: Our last day at digital west is on Nov 7.
Gentlecat
don't think so
ruaok
ok, very good.
Gentlecat
I just need to keep converting/testing stuff
ruaok
Nov 7, worst case Nov 8, I am going to go to our rack and shut everything down.
bitmap
search stuff will be nice to see if MBS can connect to it
Gentlecat
perhaps figure out what to do with dumps/backups in CB
ruaok
bitmap: we should be able to test that tomorrow.
bitmap
ok, good
Gentlecat
and replication packets in MeB
ruaok
Gentlecat: great, lets do that. each machine comes with a few hundred gigs in backup space.
k. I'll put off more accounting nonsense until after bitmaps heads back.
see if we can get search working and mbs requests going out
anything else on search servers?
err docker?
also, I won't be around from the 14th - 18th. Or sparsely depending in net connectivity on the barge on the canal du midi.
or on the farm in the alps in .ch. we'll see.
LordSputnik has quit
Freso
Guess not.
ruaok: Got anything else?
TOPIC: MetaBrainz Community and Development channel | MusicBrainz non-development: #musicbrainz | MeB meeting agenda: HTTPS conversion of Wikipedia links (chirlu), translation of documentation (yvanz), weekly office gatherings (ruaok)
ruaok
then on the 26th I head to the states and will pretty much not be available for actual real work then.

chirlu: HTTPS conversion of Wikipedia links!
chirlu
So, as is generally known, a number of sites MB links to has turned HTTPS-only, and we’ve been converting Wikidata and Discogs URLs.
mihaitish joined the channel
Now next up would be Wikipedia URLs. Arguments in favour: same as for WD/Discogs. Possible argument against: WP links are deprecated anyway, so we might not bother.
However, in practice they will probably stay around for a year or longer.
Decision problem: Convert Wikipedia URLs (s/^http:/https:/), too?
Freso
I'm usually all for HTTPSifying, but I'd say not to bother.
I mean. The URLCleanup should probably do it, but I wouldn't bother with correcting old entries.
bitmap
I agree with Freso
yvanz
Aren’t WP links sometimes more accurate than WD ones?
chirlu
Yes, URL cleanup does it. One issue with having both is that duplicates occur.
I.e. people may add the HTTP and the HTTPS version of the same URL to different entities, and it isn’t immediately obvious.
Freso
How frequent is that?
yvanz
If we are going to drop all WP links in the end, I would support Freso’s opinion too.
chirlu
(Or, more practically, may add HTTPS when an old HTTP already exists somewhere else.)
Freso
yvanz: That's the plan/goal.
bitmap
maybe we need a report for urls that are the same other than the scheme
chirlu
Freso: Hard to tell. For WD/Discogs, it was a few hundred each.
Freso
bitmap: That's a good idea.
chirlu
I’m for conversion, actually. The amount of work involved is less than creating a new report.
(Though the report might be useful for other types of URLs, too.)
Freso
But the report would wo... yeah.
bitmap
I'm also not against conversion if someone else wants to do the work, as before :)
yvanz
Since the reports will cover WP links as well, I wouldn’t bother about them for now.
Freso
Yeah.
I'm not gonna vote for rejecting the conversion if someone does the work for it.
chirlu
Well, the work was done by a cron job, but bitmap would have to update it. :-)
If *and only if* (since main efforts have to go to hosting switch) that can be *easily* installed on wiki.metabrainz.org, we could start to add localized pages, first about MB localization status for instance, before trying to translate real bits of documentation and to adapt MB-Server code to display it based on user preferred language.
