Sup peeps, there's a small mistake on this documentation page, anyone around that'd care to fix it?

CallerNo6
r_dunn, sure, what's the problem?
0:22 AM
(and it *is* a wiki -- anybody can fix it)
0:25 AM
r_dunn
I thought as much, but I looked about and couldn't see where to edit. Actually, there's more than one mistake, some of the example queries don't work, they're missing characters etc.

r_dunn: documention pages are transcluded from the wiki. at the very bottom there is a link. but you need a wiki account to edit.
0:28 AM
r_dunn you could also file a ticket on the bug tracker. but that requires an account, too :D
0:29 AM
r_dunn
meh, it's only a small mistake, anyone worth their salt will realise what's wrong with the URI. Cheers though!
0:29 AM
CallerNo6
if you point out the mistake, I'm happy to fix it
0:33 AM
r_dunn
well that's embarrassing, i double checked and there's no mistake!

CallerNo6: the freedb discid link gives an error, though ;)
0:33 AM
maybe update it with a discid that exist :3
0:34 AM
CallerNo6
SothoTalKer, yeah, I was about to add "other than freedb, which doent't work anymore"
0:34 AM
er, *doesn't*
0:34 AM
SothoTalKer
on my first search query i got a server error ;)
0:35 AM
oh my god, look at the time '-'
0:35 AM
CallerNo6
an ISE or something else?
0:37 AM
SothoTalKer
ISE
0:38 AM
CallerNo6
Not unheard of, will probably sort itself out.
0:38 AM
Yeah, I just got an ISE too. Refreshed and it worked.
0:39 AM
freedb searches, however, are 404. I assue I can remove freedb from the search docs altogether, right?

Something seems iffy about the lucene scoring algorithm. The following search for Nirvana's "Nevermind" scores it joint second after "Nevermind Sessions" and on par with "Nevermind, It's an Interview".

Meh, the document length normalisation is messing up the ordering. Nobody here that's worked on the search engine?

Leo_Verto
r_dunn, just search for the artist "Drake" :P
1:29 AM
the current search algo is really not optimal
1:29 AM
I think CatCat fixed most of it but a polish folk group called "Drake" was listed as having done a few collaborations with high profile pop stars
1:30 AM
r_dunn
Yeah, it's kinda annoying to use the API programmatically if you have to write a client side search algorithm as well. :/
1:30 AM
SothoTalKer
eh, search is not responsible for linking the wrong artists to recordings and releases :D
1:31 AM
that's what people do. and other people try to untangle that mess again :x
1:31 AM
Leo_Verto
well, but it should probably order artists of the same name by "popularity" whatever that metric is
1:32 AM
CatQuest
I did? I don't remember that :D
1:32 AM
SothoTalKer
look at the time '-'
1:32 AM
r_dunn
In my example above, it's all Nirvana, but it's ranking longer release-group names as being more relevant
1:33 AM
this is possibly a really simple fix, just balancing the normalisation weights..
1:33 AM
I'll ask on the forums...
1:35 AM
CatQuest
but I've been editing for over 10 years, go knows I've done in odd things
1:35 AM
hey Leo_Verto, do you know if the bookbrainz is operational now? last i heard it's a bit on the bink?or is that erranous
1:36 AM
Leo_Verto
what do you mean by operational? was it broken?
1:36 AM
either way, I don't really know, haven't worked on BB in quite a while
1:36 AM
CatQuest
I dunno. i seem to remember some sort of "it's broken" but it seems working at
bookbrainz.org :)

The scoring is kind of a mystery. The search server is known to be idiosyncratic. The original dev isn't involved anymore (afaik).
1:58 AM
It's (the search server) been adopted recently by an active dev.
2:02 AM
r_dunn
Cool, thanks for the info. Do you know if it's running Lucene? I'm kinda assuming it does given the API format...
2:04 AM
CallerNo6
Yes, it is. The goal is to move over to solr.
2:05 AM
2:05 AM
oops. wait, wrong link
2:05 AM
2:07 AM
So you can use some lucene syntax in your queries, if that's what you were wondering.
2:08 AM
r_dunn
No, I was looking at the lucene scoring algorithm
2:08 AM
2:09 AM
*To figure out why the order was messed up.
2:09 AM
But it's bedtime for me I'm afraid, I've bookmarked those links and will take a look tomorrow, cheers!
