Hmmm... One more way could be to give the user a drop-down menu or something under the heading of `Import to BB` consisting of all the entities we could possibly import from the page, and let her/him import them one by one.

i wzs thinking. if you have messybrainz needing to have loads of messy names that can be eg. one mbid-linked entity in musicbrainz (say the guns and roses example)
well instead of "this is the selection that can be that" how about doing several mbids. so
given a selection of messy ids, each one would be matched to mbids with a score, "how likly is it that it's *this* particular mbid? so closer ones would have a better score.
and then it could be that it matches several mbid entities (ie guns and roses or guns and bombs) and then whatever it has the highest "score" as is chosen, if score is equal for all the matching mbid entities apply some other likly disambiguation (ie "John Williams" has track named "ET" it's likely 53b106e7-0cc6-42cc-ac95-ed8d30a3a98e and not 8b8a38a9-a290-4560-84f6-3d4466e8d791 )
sorry if this is what you're doing or something much better,
just brainzstorming
