Hey all, I have a little bit more time on my hands for the next couple of months, and I wanted to try and go deeper on LB development. I was going through the JIRA, but it wasn't clear to me where a good jumping-in point would be. Anyone have some suggestions? cc: iliekcomputers ruaok

samj1912: no head off this Friday

Nice! :D

Freso: discourse is working again, i had to rebuild the web container. I added a backup disk, and moved backups to it, but symlink trick don't work since those are accessed from inside a container, so i had to mount backup disk as a volume to the web container. I updated syswiki docs accordingly.
There is now much more disk space for discourse
I just tested a backup to ensure everything is ok. And it is.

jwf: pong. so you wanna do more programming than documenting this time?
samj1912
ruaok: hey
so the problem is how to treat nulls and blanks in solr v/s how they were treated in the old server

ruaok wonders if samj1912 has more to say on the topic.
basically hyphen in lucene syntax means negation (as in a minus) and we are simply fetching all docs with a negation of any barcode set (represented as `barcode:*`)
so negation of `barcode:*` = no barcode set = `-barcode:*`
ofc, it wont display as `none` in ws/2 output, but in UI search
ruaok
do you suppose that SOLR is going to fix this in the future? is it on their roadmap?
samj1912
well it does differentiate between "" and null, but excluding one doesn't make for as pretty a syntax as `-barcode:*`
and also, searching for none type barcodes will require something like `barcode:""`
ruaok
I guess I'm trying to ask what is more future proof. when picking hacks we should find a hack that we can easily undo should SOLR improve this distinction.
samj1912
where as I think `barcode:none` is more intuitive and distinctive
well ruaok techincally storing `''` in case of a `[none]` in db and then rendering it as `[none]` on the ui side is a bit of a hack in itself
ruaok
for sure.
samj1912
so what we can aim for is consistency
so that things are intuitive for a person doing a search and who knows the basic syntax and interacts with the UI
as opposed to knowing how it is stored in the DB
ruaok
+1
samj1912
do you want me to remove the agenda from the meeting then?
