ruaok: I hear you on the "not much data". Maybe not enough to produce any statistically significant information. As for the GDPR issue, would that also apply to collections marked as "Public"?
      • rdswift doesn't fully understand all the GDPR nuances.
      • ruaok
I am not sure if the public data is free for processing. likely to be in the grey zone -- I suspect that it would be best to ask our users for explicit permission.
      • rdswift
Sounds like the best solution, if it ever comes to that. May not be worth the effort.
      • ruaok
there will come a day when we're hunting for more data sources.
      • rdswift
In the meantime, kepstin had an interesting suggestion about adding some functionality to Picard to update a user's collection automatically when they tag something. Might encourage a larger data set when the time comes.
      • ruaok
I've long felt that picard needed to have features like that.
      • never gotten around to it, saldy.
      • rdswift
I'll see if there's a ticket and add one if not. It shouldn't be that difficult to add. (Famous last words... :-) )
      • ruaok
reosarevok: look, this is why I am wrong so often! https://www.inc.com/scott-mautz/jeff-bezos-says...
      • yes, that is the explanation. honest!

Just added PICARD-1526 as per the discussion.

reosarevok: if there are more than 500 recordings on the release, we don't return any recording-level-rels
      • reosarevok
Is there any way around it?
      • Request it in smaller chunks somehow?
      • bitmap
the only way is to request each recording individually, afaik
      • heh, that release barely loads even without the relationships
      • yvanzo
hi bitmap & reosarevok: what is the current status of beta?
      • bitmap
probably 'cause we thought it was a good idea to output all of bach's aliases inside all 1000 tracks, lol
      • is there anything else we want to include in the next release?
      • I'm reviewing the collaborative collections pr again today
      • we should honestly include that if it's working at least, and have another week of testing if needed
      • yvanzo
I didn’t know beta was freezed already https://chatlogs.metabrainz.org/brainzbot/metab...
      • beta has been updated just after latest mbs release I think, but there is no much changes into it?
      • bitmap
        it was?
      • Cyna
bitmap: have you checked the forms submit button of my latest code ?
      • bitmap
        Cyna: no, I haven't
      • Cyna
the form submit button is not working, I've checked other buttons and passed params accordingly
      • bitmap
        ok, what is not working?
      • Cyna
        still they are not working
      • well the button is getting pressed but im getting redirected anywhere
      • neither is the edit getting submitted
      • bitmap
        does it reload the page?
      • yvanzo
bitmap: the current beta has been inline for ten days already, would you prefer to have it released right now (it is mostly about OPTIONS/CORS preflight), or to push master to beta and wait for normal release?
      • s/inline/online/
      • Cyna
        checking it again right now
      • bitmap
I'd prefer to focus on getting https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-serve... reviewed & merged and delay the release until then
      • yvanzo
bitmap, reosarevok: IIRC we used to not touch master during beta period so as to ease backporting beta hotfixes to master, but we can just be cautious about not merging potentially conflicting patches?
      • bitmap
before 2015 I guess? but yeah, if there's some kind of merge conflict then that requires attention
      • most hotfixes are pretty small and easy to backport, at least
      • yvanzo
alright :) dunno before 2015, my first patch is 2016, really involved since 2017 ;)
      • bitmap
        oh, right lol
      • maybe there were some cases where we did decide to freeze master temporarily, I forget
      • Cyna
bitmap: The page is refreshing all right, but there are ni changes
      • *no
      • bitmap
might some of the fields have errors that aren't being displayed?

      • Mr_Monkey
CatQuest and anyone else interested: Automatic creation of Edition Group is up on test.bookbrainz.org . Could you please try it out and let me know if you find any issues/improvements?
      • And so is the new date picker, by the way !
      • reosarevok
bitmap: *could* we provide a better way of doing it?
      • Say, if there's over 500 recordings, add some sort of notification message with the response and allow some other endpoint that queries smaller chunks without requiring 500+ queries?
      • bitmap
hrm, I forgot you can browse recordings by release, so that's another available option
      • I'm not sure adding something like requesting individual media would be any better than that (probably slower)
      • akhilesh
        Mr_Monkey: Hi!
      • Mr_Monkey
Hi akhilesh ! How's it going?
      • akhilesh
Mr_Monkey: are you available now for some help?
      • Mr_Monkey
Not at the moment, starting to prepare dinner. But I always encourage you to write your questions, that gives me the time to start thinking about it, and respond later
      • akhilesh
        Ok
      • I will comment on PR Mr_Monkey.
      • Mr_Monkey
        OK, perfect
      • Cyna
I've put all the field errors right and yes nothing is displayed
      • CatQuest
        Mr_Monkey: :O
      • first thang: when I go from https://test.bookbrainz.org/search?q=grove+dict... to "edition" (then probably I'd want the "name" to be pre-populated with the search string (unrelated to what oy uasked to search for but ))
      • still no "copy" next to "guess" on sortname..
      • date picker: i can't actually choose a year
      • it won't set
      • also selecting am onth
      • it requires date
      • (also just having a field i cna paste soem dateinto woudl be prefferable)
      • cool
      • +1111 for editiong group creation on edition creation <3
      • !m Mr_Monkey
      • BrainzBot
        You're doing good work, Mr_Monkey!
      • CatQuest
but it'd be usefull to be able to set which "type" it is
      • also eccoing what reosarevok? was it who said about having "identifiers" be shown always (not a popup, something on the page)
      • but over all i'm very pelased with this feature finalyl beign part here
      • all the new "thre is no $ help us add to BookBrainz" buttons are neat too
      • akes things faster isntead of going to the menu and stuff
      • all we really really need now is merging and i think we cna say we're in beta isntead of alpha :D
      • <3

ruaok: "Only Immanuel Kant’s famously difficult “Critique of Pure Reason” registers a more challenging readability score than Facebook’s privacy policy." ... thanks for the link, interesting
      • ruaok
        I lol'ed at that.
      • zas
The [Google] policy became more readable at the expense of brevity after the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation, the European Union data privacy protection framework that went into effect a year ago
      • SothoTalKer
ruaok: compare the privacy policy to that from the BBC :)
      • Freso
The data viz on that article is great.
      • SothoTalKer: Did you read the article?
      • SothoTalKer
        of course
      • Freso
        Alright.
      • SothoTalKer
        reboot.

Offtopic for anyone who wants to be depressed for 5h and hasn't watched it yet: the Chernobyl HBO series is great
      • bitmap
+1 to that (though haven't finished it yet)
      • reosarevok
yvanzo, bitmap: https://community.metabrainz.org/t/is-musicbrai... did we change anything that might affect this?
      • (the speed of that query)
      • bitmap
        not that I know of
      • (it doesn't take 15s for me either though so not clear why it does for them, maybe transient)
