"An executive director is a chief executive officer (CEO) "
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ruaok
these things are different for non-profits as opposed to for profits.

an API question: if a relation given includes <direction>backward</>, it's a backwards relation, but a forwards relation includes no <direction> tag. I never noticed this before
has this ever been considered?
CatQuest
hi alastairp! is it evening there now? (how? where are you? :D)

i was reading the listenbrainz api docs and found a section called last.fm api compatible
i wanted to ask which approach should i follow for vlc listenrainz plugin
ruaok
amCap1712: please use the native API
not the compat one
iliekcomputers
amCap1712: I think the best way is the native api
amCap1712
ok got it ruaok and iliekcomputers
iliekcomputers
The last fm API is restrictive and doesn't allow sending of data other than a few particular fields
The native API is much more interesting
amCap1712
yeah i saw that the payload has many additional optional fields in the native
api
iliekcomputers
Yeah
Also, dependabot <3

reosarevok: yeah, I was wondering if it'd be a reasonable idea to always say forward when it's forward
thinking in the use case of saying `if myobject["direction"] == "backwards": x, else: y`
which fails in half the cases in python because the dict key isn't there
I guess my lib could add that in implicitly
reosarevok
bitmap: ^ ?
Mr_Monkey
I arrived at the same conclusion for the BookBrainz API (missing object key is an issue in JS), and for consistency and ease of use we decided to always return the direction
People up for reviews: zas, yvanzo, bitmap, iliekcomputers, ruaok, Freso, reosarevok, Mr_Monkey, aidanlw17, pristine__ – anyone else who wants to give a review, please let me know explicitly ASAP. :)
No mailed in reviews, so…
zas: Go!
zas
hey
busy week
apart usual maintenance, upgrades and supervision, I prepared new server floyd
it's up and running, ready for bitmap ;)
bitmap
oh nice
zas
I also detected (thanks to a temporary issue) a serious abuse of our website
it is now under control, but basically a lot of search queries (through website) were hitting solr cloud, mostly for recordings search, and this was the main reason of high load since ... years
so, response times for legit users are much better now
Mr_Monkey
Any clue who/what they were coming from?
zas
not really, yet, 60k different IPs per day, same old UA, same kind of requests, may be something like the QNAP issue (but this time for the website)
apart that, code review and ... Picard 2.2 release !

BrainzBot
You're doing good work, zas and outsidecontext!
zas
plus ftp fixes: when we removed queen we also removed a failover IP that was used for ftp/rsync and it created quite a mess, fixed now
fin. Mr_Monkey ?
Mr_Monkey
Yo !
Spent some time making t-shirts for the summit, as you've probably seen.
There was more back-and-forth and changes to make, but it all went OK and the shirts should be on their way
I also added some identifiers to BookBrainz entities (for now only on test.bookbrainz.org) and tested some recent features in view of a beta update before the summit.
I also started looking again at the mess I got to working on the merging tool.
A couple of security and dependency updates, and that's the week !
I picked up reviewing and coding MBS again, and continued checking logs.
Plus usual support, a bit of MB VM, and that’s all from me!
Go reosarevok?
Sorry, go ruaok?
ruaok
k
so, a busy week for me.
first, the usual MeB background stuff, responding to people who don't understand the GDPR and such...
but also in light of iliekcomputers' reduced presence here, I asked pristine__ if she was interested in working for us during her last year at uni
Freso
🙌
ruaok
and she said yes and the board of directors approved it as well.
Mr_Monkey
Woo !
reosarevok
OMG SHE SAID YES
ruaok
welcome aboard pristine__ !
Freso
🙌 🙌
reosarevok
Wait, no, wrong event
Mr_Monkey
Welcome !
pristine__
Thank you everyone <3
bitmap
welcome pristine__
reosarevok
So wait, is she going to work on all the projects then?
30 hours per day, like iliekcomputers? :p
zas
Welcome aboard !! \o/
ruaok
now, after having gone through this with samj1912[m], chhavi and iliekcomputers, I asked her if she also wants to leave india and the answer was yes.
pristine__
Well iliekcomputers is magic.
ruaok
so, chances are we will only have her for 9 months. :(
better than nothing, so let's make the most of it, no?
reosarevok
Or we could finally figure out a way to get people out of India :p
Without giving them away to the evil capitalists
ruaok
reosarevok: yeah, I keep thinking about that. not cheap.
I've also been making a lot of progress with the messybrainz <-> MB mapping.
I've got early previews available -- still debugging bits, but I have a solid start.
I might just try and chew my way through the listens in LB and see how many ISRCs and spotfufy albums ids I can harvest from it.
Mr_Monkey
Yay !
ruaok
also, loads of prep for the summit, food planning, working to get the office cleaned, stuff like that.
and we'll have authentic southern US gumbo at the summit -- for thursday evening.
I have more summit stuff to talk about, but that can wait to the agenda item.
iliekcomputers: ?
iliekcomputers
Hi
First of all, welcome to Vansika!
>Vansika Pareek started working with MetaBrainz in January 2019 when she realized the amazing potential of the intersection of music and technology. She works on the ListenBrainz project and music recommendation. She is a poet, an artist and loves Badminton.
pristine__
Thanks :)
reosarevok is surprised to find this gumbo thing is not deep-fried
iliekcomputers
🙌🏽
And also the love of iliekcomputers life
Freso
(Only myself and aidanlw17 and pristine__ left on today’s list. Last call for anyone else who wants to give a review!)
