Hi. My name is Chirag Thakur and I'm a newcomer to the Metabrainz community. I want to contribute to this organization. I have been an active participator in programming contests like ACM-ICPC and online judges over the last two years (am comfortable in C++ and Python). I am new to open source development and want to get involved using Google Summer of Code 2020.

hi chirag11032000! welcome.
do you have a particular project at MetaBrainz you plan to contribute to?
chirag11032000
I have seen the list of projects of Metabrainz. I don't have any particular project in mind right now. I like music related projects more than others. I would like to work on MusicBrainz or ListenBrainz.
ruaok: I am currently building listenbrainz-server on my machine to explore it. Could you give me any guidance where to start?
pristine__: have you been able to log into the new cluster yet?
iliekcomputers: pristine__: given that we now know the old cluster was at fault, can we work to remove all needed things from those VMS so I can kill that mess?
iliekcomputers
sounds good to me.
ruaok
no point in paying €120 for something that doesn't work.
iliekcomputers
agreed
pristine__
ruaok: yes. I was able to log in to the new cluster.
Sounds good.
ruaok
there are some nice machines on offer that have loads more disk space and more ram for similar amounts of money. once I understand our financial picture wrt to 2019, I'll see about gettting a better permanent cluster.
pristine__
:)
ruaok
iliekcomputers: pristine__ : please remove any of your stuff from leader then. once you two give me the go-ahead I'll nuke those machines.

zas: I'm getting rid of the listenbrainz spark cluster on hetzner cloud. when we tried to use it yesterday is wouldn't perform. super slow.
so as a test i got some server bidding machines from hetzner and those perform a *lot* better.
alastairp: we have a VM acousticbrainz-test that we fired up a year ago. is that still in use?
iliekcomputers
i realized why we were getting that manifest error when pulling the request consumer.
we never actually pushed the request consumer to docker hub :D
ruaok
oh is that what the intuitive error message is about? sigh.
iliekcomputers
:D
BrainzGit
[listenbrainz-labs] vansika opened pull request #77 (all-changes-mapping…upload-mappings-artist-credit-listens): upload mappings, artist relation and listens to HDFS https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-labs...
alastairp
ruaok: VM or hetzner?
ruaok
hetzner cloud vm.
alastairp
oh, that's a VM, right
ruaok
95.216.173.194
alastairp
mm, is that the same as bono?
ruaok
no
alastairp
OK, I don't know what the VM is. perhaps iliekcomputers used it to prototytype the move from spike?
ruaok
iliekcomputers: ^
possibly.
iliekcomputers
i don't particularly remember. i'm okay with killing it.
ruaok
wanna at least log in?
accounts: param, rashi
I guess it was testing to merge rashi's project.
iliekcomputers
hmm, that makes sense. we did some work on it, but i don't think i had anything on it.
ruaok
ok, i"ll nuke it.
iliekcomputers
👍🏽
alastairp
we're preparing for reyes parade in the south of spain. man they take things seriously here
ruaok
I'll go and appear for the candy cannons tomorrow. but that is as serious as I take it.
alastairp
there are people setting up chairs and _charging_ for them for people to sit down
people have been reserving their spot since about 10am :/
has something changed with transifex? authentication using the API token works, but I'm getting a Forbidden error trying to pull new translations for MusicBrainz (setting up my dev vm again)
