Not much to report for last week. Went to some BLM protests, got my exam results (I passed music industry one with distinction), and spent a lot of time reading about open culture and copyright stuff and enjoying the sun.

Other than this, just trying to be around and about and doing some daily checks for ban evaders. :)

Hai !
Last week I finished preparations for publishing the BookBrainz merging tool in production. Published that today 🎉

I also wanted to fix a few unrelated issues before deploying, such as double form submitting, URL recognition for relationship editor, search indexing issues, and bringing back annotations from code limbo

Hello Everyone !!

P.S: Feedback welcome on the merging tool !

I am successfully trained the model with the generated data, which gave 100% accuracy when evaluated with test data.
I Have kept the model in flask, tried to run using flask functions and test with batch wise data.

good evening
it's been a bit quiet on my end the last few weeks... sometimes still getting into the swing of the "new normal", as they're calling it here.
however recently I've commented on some PRs for LB, and I did some work with Mr_Monkey about some flask/js integration (I believe that he commented on that last week)
I spent some time getting aidan's SoC project from last year into shape to release for our recommendation stuff
and spent a bit of time going over machine learning stuff with jmp_music, for his project this year
that's it from me. Freso, I can't see who is next? _lucifer maybe?
_lucifer
Hi all!
Freso
(Only prabal and jmp_music left on my list, last call for anyone else who might want to go!)
_lucifer
I worked on adding listen submission support to the app. The initial iteration is ready. I will release an updated app later tonight.
Also, reviewed SomalRudra on his PR to improve the tagging facility
thats it for me

Hi!
Last week there was developed an imitation of the gaia tool on how it handles the data (shuffling, etc.) based also on the parameters of gaia's configuration. The results were checked if they are the same or better than gaia yields.
v6lur has quit
Also, logging in the evaluation, and other minor fixes were implemented.
Finally, I had some chat with @alastair about how to proceed with my ML implementation.
We removed the ability for beginners to leave edit notes ages ago to avoid them being able to spam edits
It's been suggested that now that we can easily block an editor from leaving edit notes, maybe we should change that, since it severely restricts beginners' ability to cooperate with others
CatQuest
well i'm for it
Mr_Monkey
I'm in favor in view of the recent changes in sock puppet management and T&Cs
reosarevok
(and I'll mention that since then it's become a lot harder to stop being a beginner)
yvanzo
is it severe? were there complaints?
reosarevok
(since adding releases is now an autoedit so it doesn't ever take you out of beginner status if you only do that)
CatQuest
indeed
Freso
I’m not in either camp. I’m happy to do it and see how it develops.
CatQuest
i'm happy about doing it and seeing what happes too
Freso
If it turns out there’s a big issue, we can turn it off again (again).
bitmap
+1
CatQuest nods
yvanzo
please do not hardcode it then, make it a configurable behavior.
Freso
I don’t see any opposition, only comments on implementation.
So motion passed?
Mr_Monkey
Aye
reosarevok
aye-aye
Freso
Alright, let’s move on to final agenda item. :)
Freso: GCI
yvanzo
aloso the issue about taking users out of beginner status is separate
So as has been touched on earlier in this channel and also during reviews, Google has announced that Google Code-in has been discontinued.
CatQuest
freso!
:c
Mr_Monkey
Sadface
Freso
Getting MetaBrainz involved with GCI was one of the first things I did after getting hired by MeB, and it’s been one of my highlights of the year (and also one of the most stressful periods of the year), and I’m sad to see it go.
CatQuest
:c
_lucifer
Can MeB have some sort of its own program to take place of GCI?
Mr_Monkey
I will miss this opportunity to reach out to budding open-source contributors and help shape a nurturing first contact to many.
Freso
I just wanted to acknowledge this and also officially thank every. single. one. of y’all from the community who during these past years have stepped up as mentors, either formally directly in the GCI or informally via IRC, forums, edit notes, and PR comments/reviews.
shivam-kapila
(I have a feeling that google with come up with something new to take its place)
yvanzo
Thank you for organizing MeB’s participation to GCI!
Freso
And also a thank you to all the students who have come through our org. and contributed to our projects and visions, and doubly so to the ones who have stuck around and/or returned. I’m hoping we’ll see more of you return over the coming years as you enter and exit higher education.
Thank you to ruaok for allowing me to get MeB into this, and thank you to Google for organising this. It’s been a great ride. Let’s see what comes next! :)

alastairp
thanks Freso
Mr_Monkey received the last GCI tshirt and sticker in the mail today, with mixed feelings
Freso
I’m not sure a new program will take its place. I think Google is downsizing a bit. Maybe they will do something different next year/post-covid, but I don’t think there will be something new this year.
GSoD is already a new program, and I reckon one of the things with GCI was the (legal, administrative) difficulty of dealing with minors.
shivam-kapila
Oh
Freso
This does free up some manpower that we can maybe use to get involved with something like Outreachy maybe, which I want to discuss that with Rob at some point, but again: maybe for post-covid.
yvanzo
alastairp: Do you have anything against restricting AB Postgres’ logs size? (from 93 GB currently to 5 GB)
+1 Freso
alastairp
yvanzo: absolutely no problem. go for it
reosarevok
Freso: that would be neat
alastairp
I wonder why it's so high. I guess we're logging slow queries too. Perhaps we can reduce the logging level too
