      • As it diverges
      • ruaok
two new endpoints moved to port 8000: http://bono.metabrainz.org:8000/country-recordi...
      • pristine___
ruaok: that's a cool feature. We can integrate it at so many places.
      • ruaok
yeah, why did we never do that before? its a stupid sql query!
      • but, I am working to find example cases for troi.
      • ruaok switches context to troi
      • pristine___
ruaok: it will be good to return the year of release corresponding to the recording, maybe
      • ruaok
        I can see that.
      • ruaok: why didn't you sort on year, you dumbass?
      • ruaok: because it means another subquery, that's why!
      • ruaok leaves it be
      • I really dislike other people doing my sleep for me.
      • iliekcomputers
can't wait to automate sleep away
      • wish time.sleep would work

[listenbrainz-server] vansika opened pull request #1073 (master…rec-operation-for-all-users-at-once): [WIP] Perform recommendation operations for all users at once. https://github.com/metabrainz/listenbrainz-serv...

They are paying $1500 for sleeping
      • ruaok
        github down again?
      • iliekcomputers
        not for me
      • ruaok
        not reachable from the office.
      • shivam-kapila
All up as per status page
      • ruaok
        must be a network thing.
      • time to head home, I suppose.

Mr_Monkey: can you remove upper bulge
      • Mr_Monkey
      • shivam-kapila
        This certainly feels better
      • For me at least
      • Mr_Monkey
        It does flow better
      • Well, I'll leave it here for today.
      • shivam-kapila
        Can you add the wave
      • Mr_Monkey
        Thanks for the feedback !
      • shivam-kapila
        Thanks
      • Mr_Monkey
Gotta run, sorry. But will do.
      • shivam-kapila
        No issues at all
      • Thanks for taking feedback into account
      • _lucifer
        iliekcomputers: doc updated
      • Mr_Monkey
        I lied! Here's another version
      • ruaok
        +1
      • Mr_Monkey
Good feedback, this is my favorite version so far
      • ruaok
I really like that one. The smooth line is nice, not too busy, much more on point.
      • soon we'll need to print a new office cushion cover
      • nelgin
yvanzo, I keep getting OOM killer breaking my indexing. I've now assigned 16gb to the VM. Any suggestions?
      • alastairp
        Mr_Monkey: nice
      • yvanzo
nelgin: download search indexes as a workaround
      • but to debug the indexing, we need more info: container logs, docker-compose config, ...
      • ishaanshah
        > [off] SomalRudra: jmp_music_ diru1100 shivam-kapila ishaanshah prabal : please fill out this form if you want a GSoC t-shirt: https://forms.gle/zYx1TCoFzBhQs43R8
      • ruaok: The area thing is interesting, thats why I want to create entity pages, show specific stats and recommendations for the entity
      • ruaok
        sounds great.
      • ishaanshah
We could actually start out by build the area entity page
      • ruaok
yes, these tools highlight the missing areas in artists, which should cause more people to fix data.
      • ishaanshah
like suppose I click on US, show markers on the map, show the artists I have listened to and some new artists
      • iliekcomputers: Hi, I continued working on the tests today
      • nelgin
yvanzo, If you want to pm me exactly what you need, I'd be happy to pastebin or send the logs.
      • ishaanshah
        today -> yesterday*
      • nelgin
or paste here, but I don't want to lose anything in the jumble.
      • ishaanshah
one last test is remaining, I will try to get it done by tomorrow
      • Sorry for not being around this week, have been a bit busy IRL
      • I think we should get inc dumps by this sunday
      • yvanzo
nelgin: sudo docker-compose config; sudo docker-compose logs db indexer mq musicbrainz redis search
      • nelgin
Ok, just waiting for my last snapshots to merge then I'll send the logs
      • (oldest I should say)
      • jmp_music_
        ishaanshah: Did it already! thanks!
      • shivam-kapila
        Mr_Monkey: slick
      • Can you try playing with opacity for waves
      • > soon we'll need to print a new office cushion cover
      • Oh those cushions are my crush ♥️
      • ishaanshah making sure all get gift 😜
      • CatQuest
[15:31] <yvanzo> Laymen would probably not be disturbed, and power users would still be able to edit/remove it from the URL page.
      • as a "poweruser" (I think?) I'd find this behaviour hella annoying - i edit urls via artist (though being able to selecta "this is ended" box right on artist page for urls woudl be very cool)
      • ishaanshah
shivam-kapila: wanted to quote the message before :D
      • CatQuest
        Mr_Monkey: I actually like it!
      • 👍
      • the second one loks messy imho
      • I also thing all the others have too thin a bow. I like how the form continues into the other part, but doesnt actually match up 1:1
      • I thikn several others do similar things
      • shivam-kapila
      • yvanzo
CatQuest: right but one rarely needs to edit ended URLs, it was just suggested as temp kludge until replacing that field with full options.
      • CatQuest
question: do we from now on never remove urls at all? I mean. sometimes an url shoudl be removed after all since it's wrong or pointless
      • and if those are also selected as "ended" removing thme will be so much a pita becasue you fist have ot go "unend" thme nd thne go bakc and remove fro martist
      • yvanzo
URLs can still be removed from URL page, but the current issue is beginners removing URLs instead of marking them as ended (not their fault, the checkbox is not available in both forms).
      • You can do both "unend" and "remove" from the URL edit page.
      • zas
yvanzo: yes, most editors are unaware of the "ended" feature (though kinda hard to find...)
      • but if an URL was marked "ended" it is likely by an advanced editor, removing such shouldn't be too easy
      • bitmap
the external links editor is already in React so it wouldn't be hard to add an ended checkbox there
      • zas
it would be a step forward, we could encourage people to keep "expired" links
      • yvanzo
That field should be release with a fieldgroup to allow every detail of the relationship (date period, ended flag, but also attributes, multiple link types) to be handled at once.
      • zas
but of course there are cases where removal is perfectly legit
      • yvanzo
bitmap: isn't it mixed with jquery/ko?
      • bitmap
I mean there are hacks to integrate it in the release editor (which is ko), but the external links editor itself is all reacy
      • react
      • zas
I'd like the "remove" icon replaced by an edit icon and a dialog shown on click with all related actions, it would be more future-proof too
      • yvanzo
alright, never mind then, we could at least make date period/ended flag easily available soon.
      • bitmap
iirc it was the first prototyped thing to be written in react in like 2015
      • yvanzo
        zas: +1
      • zas
also "ended" urls shouldn't be directly modifiable (as the goal of ending them is to keep them)
      • BrainzGit
[musicbrainz-server] mwiencek merged pull request #1673 (master…polyfill-improvements): Polyfill improvements (also unbreaks IE11) https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-serve...
      • bitmap
yvanzo: I'm going to deploy that to beta in a few mins, do you mind if I update the string from https://github.com/metabrainz/musicbrainz-serve... too?
      • bitmap does that then
      • reosarevok
iliekcomputers, ruaok: do you know what's a good free resource for beginners for python 3?
      • Codecademy, which usually is kinda fun, only has python2, and it seems weird to start with that
      • ruaok
back in the day "dive into python" was supposed to be good, but I dont know it if was kept up to daet.
      • might be too high level.
      • I don't honestly know

      • CatQuest
        reosarevok: pm
      • reosarevok
        Ok!
      • rdswift: ok, thanks :)
      • ruaok: that is "for experienced programmers" so it might be a bit much for my purposes, but maybe it's less scary than it makes it sound :) I'll take a look
      • There's a python3 version at least
      • nelgin
      • That has the config and a link to the logs, since they're too big to paste.
      • WARNING overcommit_memory is set to 0
      • WARNING you have Transparent Huge Pages (THP) support enabled in your kernel.
      • I'll fix both these, reboot and give it another try.
      • I'll also allocate 4gb to search
      • yvanzo
yup, increasing SOLR_HEAP can possibly solve the issue.
      • bitmap: thanks for having pushed the change to transifex as well!

      • nelgin
        yvanzo, same thing. oom.
      • I don't really want to do the indexing by fetching the files because that won't help debug the issue, but I do need to get this working so I'm open to all suggestions.
