So I think the right starting m point for this would be to look at MusicBrainz and how you can add relationships with modifiers such as dates

See how you can add a relationship but also add/modify some attributes of the relationship

I think step 1 would be to add optional dates on relationships

(probably not for all relationship types, but I think it will apply broadly)

We already have some of the code set up for relationship attributes

you'll see that the table `relationship_type__attribute_type` allows us to say which relationship types can have which type of attributes
