Oh, I didn't know it was possible to get it out of IA. Their docs mention batch downloads as the way to get original resolution covers... Since I'm never going to go to all that trouble, I also upload high res covers to Inventaire and Hardcover.app. Just to be safe.

I wonder what the path is to getting a proper IA book cover art archive? IIRC it was stalled because bitmap was waiting on other stuff from the IA team and didn't want to swamp them with multiple things at once? But my recollection is hazy... with this amazing work by rayyan_seliya I wonder if it would be worth getting in touch again?

<aerozol[m]> "I wonder what the path is to..." <- thx aerozol i looked into this in depth when building the feature , the main challenge is IA is not able to search for book covers using ISBN, OCLC, or LCCN as i mentioned earlier too above in the chat , to get the full res IA cover we need the IA identifier -> usually only available if an OpenLibrary ID (OLID) is linked up and the edition is connected to an IA scan. So

unless we get better API support (like IA indexing more IDs, or OL giving us IA links for ISBN only lookups), building a proper high res cover archive with IA is pretty tough) Right now the OL covers API with its S/M/L sizes are the only feasible and great way to achieve the cover art ! happy to help bitmap or u from my side if we need an outreach to IA !

<jwillikers[m]> "Oh, I didn't know it was..." <- batching IA covers is definitely and adventure jwillikers ! honestly uploading to Hardcover.app and Inventaire sounds very less stressful . love ur approach for keeping that high res covers safe !

Do you use MusicBrainz rayyan_seliya? I'm not talking about searching IA, I mean a functionality where our users upload scans directly :)

So aerozol @aerozol:matrix.org: u mean that we don't have a feature as of now of adding book covers to Musicbrainz ? Using the cover art archive project which is a bond between IA and Musicbrainz ? Yeah I have seen monkey was also telling me something about this ! Before the ol implementation!

On MusicBrainz our users upload images directly to releases (thanks to the cover art archive). Which is rad, no size limit and we link them directly to the mbid 😁
